Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

I bet! My wife and I share a car as well. Never a boring day!

From what I understand, they suggest that while your in nursing school that you don't take any other classes or work. My response to that has always been, "Ok.. that's great! So you're going to pay me to study to make up for that lost income huh?" Yeah right. :sarcastic:

Fun times.

Like you guy, I also need to work full time while attending the Nursing program. There is simply no way to get around that, unless i win the lottery between now and January. Im sure there will be those days when i say to myself, self, why in the world did you get myself into this mess? When that day comes i will look around at my fellow classmates and realize im not alone in this fight. I will look at my kids and realize its not all about me anymore, its about them and how i can provide a better way of life for them. Then i will pick myself up by my boot straps, dust myself off and march full speed ahead. I dont know about you, but failure is not an option for me. My family depends on me and i will NOT let them down.

@fxcolon great words!

I have many reasons to be happy today. The first one, today finally appeared in "my documents" that my application was received, as well as the rest of the necessary documentation. The second and more important, yesterday while I was working, my mom, who was taking care of my children, momentarily lost consciousness and fell on the house. My kids called 911, when paramedics arrived they found her with BP 68/33. She was taken, immediately, to the hospital while two cops stay at home with my children until my husband arrived. Finally, today my mom is already back home. Apparently, the high pressure medications (she is hypertensive) coupled and the fact that the previous day she had not been fed or hydrated enough, caused this episode of hypotension. The low pressure caused some damage in the heart (NSTEMI myocardial infarction ) but thanks to the quick action of my small children the damage was not greater.

Nice! I hear you completely. Each time that I thought there was no way that I could memorize all the foramen and protuberances on the bones in A&P I, I looked at a ultrasound picture of my daughter. Each time I wanted to throw EKG strips in the trash from frustration in memorizing all the different waveforms, I picked up my daughter and laughed. I'm right there with you.

Failure is NOT an option.

... and I agree with Juleby, nice words.

Oh wow! I'm glad that everything is ok and she is back at home. It sounds like you defiantly taught your kiddos the right way to use 911!

I have to say I'm jealous of those of you having all your documents marked in WebAdvisor. My three are still marked as 'Not Rec'd' :(

I have everything under "My Documents" as received but the HCC application. I have already been admitted to the school. Any ideas?

mjmh they're not done inputting documents so some things still have to be verified. They're just going step by step. It will appear soon.

Hi mjmh... Try not to worry about it to much. Im sure it will show up soon. If it doesnt show up by the end of next week then i would go to the DM campus and see if you can talk to someone there and get it fixed. I think they (HCC) gets a kick out of stressing us out. I swear, I wish i could just relax and enjoy the next couple month before we start the NUR program but i cant. I find myself thinking about it day and night. Like now, I should be working, but Nooooo im here responding to a post. TGIF....I need a DRINK.

I'm trying not too stress about it either, mjmh (still missing my three from WebAdvisor).. but what fxcolon says is truth. I'm sure we'll be laughing about it next week -- either that, or I'll be standing in line behind you at Records and Admission demanding answers.

I still can't understand this process of screening applicants. It all seems so convoluted and unnecessary to me.

I'm with FX.. I'll take my Friday drink and a night at the computer playing mindless games while the kiddo snores in the crib.

All of my documents have shown up as well, except the hcc application and nursing prereqs show as due ASAP. I'm guessing it is because when I did my application I selected the Brandon campus?

I went there today and found out that I wrong information. I was told that HCC had all transcripts (1 high school, 1 from SPC and 1 from a college up north). Today I found out that since the transcript from up north was given to HCC in 2004, it was too old and they needed a new one. So now I am freaking out even though the assistant to the Dean said it would be no problem.

mjmh....I dont understand why HCC did not notify you that your transcript from 2004 was no longer valid. The fact that you had to go there and ask to find that out is NOT cool. I would've been ******!!! Allow me to give you some advice. Make sure you document date, time, and who you spoke to everytime you go to or call HCC to get information about the NUR program. It will serve you well incase you need to submit an appeal later on. Good Luck, I hope it all turns out ok for you.
