Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Ok, I just read above posts.

Love78 at that time the regular algebra was accepted MAT 1033....

Fairy007-

This is your 3rd time applying to HCC? Did u apply continuosly bcuz I can't understand why u didn't get in for the spring since the cutoff was 3.23.

I believe the cutoff GPA for Fall semester 2010 was 3.38 and for Spring 2011 the cutoff GPA was 3.40

Someone with a 3.33 GPA with an alternate offer was accepted for spring 2011......

I applied for the transition track today, and I'm not feeling too good about it. I WAS feeling pretty confident after being told for two years, "Anything over a 2.5 is in!" I was able to bring my GPA up substantially, but still had those speedbumps from my first time around in college that couldn't be retaken (C in Socialogy when I was 19 and never went to class). Also, retaking any class results in .2 being deleted from your GPA (College Algebra, I made an A in it, but it doesn't count). Well, I went in to ask to speak with a counselor to make sure everything was filled in properly and was VERY rudely told, "Um, our counselors don't DO that." After insisting that, yes, they do, I was here last week, I ended up getting put back in with the wet blanket who had me in tears last week over my GPA. She rolled her eyes, sighed, said I had all the necessary paperwork, laughed at my grades again, and said I'm wasting my time, because transition track is now on par with traditional track as far as competitiveness, but I can try if I want. My HCC GPA is a 3.5 roughly, which she recalculated as a 3.2. USF has me at a 3.67, go figure.

So I'm thinking it's time to start trying to get in SPC's transition track, since I definitely won't be accepted in HCC, which is ten minutes from my house.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Hey everyone! I'm dropping off my application today or tomorrow... nothing like waiting until the last minute, huh? Actually, I sent for my transcripts last week, but forgot to include a picture id, so I had to rush and freak out on Monday to get the last transcript sent to my house.

According to my calculations, I'll have a 3.57. I didn't retake any of my classes, so I can't imagine they could calculate my GPA any differently. However, I'm including a list of which classes to include in my prerequisites and the grades I received in the classes.

Do you guys know when we'll find out if we're accepted? This is way too stressful!

Finally dropped off my application today. I had to drive to New Port Richie to get an official transcript in person because I never received the one I requested last month and I couldn't wait any longer as the deadline is approaching. I may apply to St.Pete and Galen as well. I have to get into a program this year.. Good luck to everyone.

How long did it take those who submitted applications to receive confirmation letters? I haven't received one yet...

Also, how does HCC calculate plus and/or minus grades? For example, is a B+ different from a B, and is an A- different from an A? I can't seem to find that information on HCC's website.

Good luck to everyone!

I included a self-addressed stamped envelope and received it back in about a week and a half. I don't know anything about B+, A- etc. I've never heard of that.

Hi Agonza,

I read that they do not count =/-, if you have a b+, it is just a b and if you have an a-, it is just an a.

Good luck!

Hey Guys! I just received a phone HCC Nursing Department, they told me they haven't found my $ 53.00 Nursing Application fees. I told them, no way i didn't forget to include that fee $ 53.00, look carefully and you should be able to see it. Fives minutes later, they called me back to apprise me they have found it and they apologize to me. I couldn't believe it!

I'm not shocked at that. Sadly, this is the school we all are praying to get into too. I really hope the nursing program will be a little more organized. I have heard otherwise, however, this is the only affordable school nearby me. I don't have many other options. It will be ok...right? :)
