Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.
I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?
What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?
Thank you thank you! I'm trying to take it easy, taking all online electives this semester, enjoying my home time. Part of me can't wait, and part of me is nervous. Just happy I got that letter finally, the wait felt forever.
WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME and CONGRATS :yeah: I remember when I couldn't wait for the program to start! It was so bad that I went and took an exam prep course for CNA LOL. Haven't used the license but loved that I got a heads u on some skills... Like Willie said, Kee's Clinical calculation book 1st 8 chapters. There is an exam on week 3 that you MUST pass with an 80% or better. You get 3 tries to do so. Your professor will more than likely shoot you an email early august with reading material to prepare yourself (READ IT) It'll keep you ahead but for now relax and enjoy the free time you have!!!
oh yea WELCOME AGAIN :-)

I'm already dreading the wait and I cannot even send my paperwork in until December! I'll be doing the same as you, taking easy classes to pass the time. An eight month wait to start the program is going to be torturous!! You'll have to let us all know how it's going once you start (when you can find time, of course!).
Hello! Yes, when you are accepted into the program you will receive your acceptance letter, on that letter you will be able to choose which campus you want, and the whether you want morning, afternoon, or evening (evening only available if you applied for Spring).
For instance, I chose Dale Mabry as my campus, and 1-4pm as my time of my day.
The only thing, is that they decide who gets their choice by GPA, those with the highest GPA get first choice. Then it continues down the line until all the spots are filled for that campus/time slot. About 30 people or so of the students I was accepted with, did not get their desired campus/time assignment. Some who wanted Dale Mabry evenings are now in Plant City days, and so on.
So make sure you do the best you can in pre-reqs (of course, that is null and void if you're already at the point of applying)
Good luck!
Thank you so much for your response! That makes me so excited. Not morning person! I'm sure I won't have much choice for clinicals, but at least I'll be awake to learn something during lectures, lol. I did pretty well in my prereqs, and I'm applying now, so all I can do is cross my fingers! :)
Try not too worry about it too much (although I know that it is pretty hard, we obsessed over it). You assume right about clinicals. No matter which lecture schedule you pick, clinicals are always at 6:30 in the darn morning until 4:30pm. Yuck, I'm not a morning person either...but at least that is only one day a week.

1) Yes, you can use your own MD for the physical. The only problem you might have with completing it prior to the 30th is that
HCC gives you a specific paper for the physical and the immunizations. This paper has to be filled out by the doctor completing the physical and verifying the immunization records.
2) The first 3 weeks of clinical are done on campus. Clinicals start at 0630 so the group you saw were probably arriving for their clinical day.
3) It's hard to tell you what to get started on as each clinical instructor starts out in a different chapter, etc. One thing you can get started on is the 1st 8 chapters of the clinical calculations book. That is consistent throughout each campus/instructor.
If I could give you any advice.....relax. In all seriousness you will have 4 semesters of grueling reading and coursework, etc. If I had it to do all over again-I would have enjoyed my summer freedom a lot more. The program isn't bad but tons of reading, etc! Congrats on getting in and keep posting questions. I'm sure any one of us would be happy to respond.
