Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Thanks, the thing is I'm eligible for financial aid, but I dn't have enough money for room and board.

They gave me a single paper to fill out that requested the amount that I wanted to request. Then, you have to fill out a loan entrance counseling form and place HCC school code. You sign the master promissary note and have that sent to HCC too.

SN Check your email guys!!!! Dale Mabry Professor has sent us some info. We have our clinical sites!!!

Has anyone heard anything about books? I am curious when the actual book list will be available. I can't submit for tuition assistance at work until I have that list in my hands.

The book list has been available since orientation. They gave us the book list to compare prices and the coupon for 10% off. The book list was also emailed to you by the instructor and on the HCC Nursing Health Sciences page that has all 4 semesters' syllabi. The book package is not available yet. The campus book store said check back the first week of August.

Yes, I am aware that we were given a booklist and that it is listed in the syllabi. However, I am required to submit a list that can be verified through the school's bookstore even if I choose to purchase elsewhere.

Attention PC days: Our instructor sent us an email to choose our preference for our clinical site/day.

I have tried to do this BayCare Orientation and it is SOOOOOOO Long...... I don't think its really going to take a full 8 hours but man that bad boy is long! jeez. Hopefully all that information is retained because it is a lot to go through. For all the Dale Mabry people we have to do an additional online training as we will be St. Joseph for clinical. For anyone who hasn't started that BayCare I would definitely suggest staring to chip away at that chunk of marble. Happy studies all :-)

I remember they say you have to funish the whole 8 hrs in one day or you going to start all over again. Is it true?

It's not too bad if you test out of everything.

No. Mrs O said that you COULD do it in sessions so u don't sit for eight hours straight trying to do it. I've done about half of it already.

Has anyone heard any news yet about the appeals/degree audit. Just wondering since I recevied an email today about classes being dropped if we were on suspension.

Hi everyone! My name is Kimberly, and I am currently in "waiting for my letter" agony. I applied for the Spring Entry daytime program at DM with a 3.87 prereq gpa, so I'm fairly confident I will get in, unless of course HCC screws up in some way..which they frequently do lol, even if I had a 4.0 I would still be biting my nails off..as you all know..it feels like the world is stopped until that acceptance letter comes in, time moves so slowly!. Congratulations to all of you, and keep posting so that those of us starting in January know what to expect! We have a discussion board on here too, but so far we still don't have a lot of info. Two people said they got emails stating they were accepted into the program....but I dunno..that just sounds weird, since I never heard of them doing emails before letters, and one of the people stated they had a 3.4 gpa, . They told us mid-Sept as the estimated mailing date...but, I'm hoping that they overestimated that by a month, like they did with yours.

As far as financial aid questions you guys have..I'm kind of a fin aid expert, I've been handling both mine, my husband's, and my best friends fin aid packages. My award letter is in, but my husband's is not. We were just there last week, and he had been "lost in the system". Yea,...thanks HCC. So, if you aren't seeing an award letter, and you haven't already gone in to the Fin Aid office, DO SO! The more you bug them..the better, try to get their as early as possible...if you can get there about 6:30-7, the doors open then and the line WILL start forming, the actual office opens at 8am. They usually stop taking people about 1.5 to 2hrs before closing.

For Pell Grants:

If you have $ left over after books/supplies/classes, then you will get your refund on Sept. 2nd.

For Loans:

Once you have filled out a FAFSA, you must also fill out a Student Acknowledgment form.

On this form you will state how much you wish to take out.

Independents: If you have 0-30 credits, then the max you can take out each year is $9,500. $3,500 subsidized (gov't pays your interest until you graduate), $6,000 unsubsidized (gov't does NOT pay your interest until you graduate, either you pay it as you go along, or you wait until after you graduate and the interest is capitalized). Dependents: max is $5,500 (3,500 sub, 2,000 unsub)

Independents: If you have 31+ credits, then the max you can take out $10,500. $4,500 subsidized, $6,000 unsubsidized. Dependents: max is $6,500 (4,500 sub, 2,000 unsub)

Neither loan is based on credit. I have yet to hear of anyone being denied a loan.

You can find the Student Acknowledgement form under the Financial Aid tab off the HCCFL website.. http://www.hccfl.edu/media/431017/a%20guide%20to%20sensible%20borrowing%20and%20loan%20request%20form.pdf (the 5th page is the form)

Before you turn your form into HCC, you need to do the following:

1. Sign the Master Promissory Note:

https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action

2. If this is your first loan, you also must:

Using the same link as in #1, complete the Entrance Counseling. There will be short quiz at the end. You have to get 80%, and then you will be prompted to print a confirmation paper. They SAY they will email it to the school, but you also MUST TURN IN A HARDCOPY.

Once you have the above three forms filled out, head on down to the HCC financial aid office and turn them. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS ENTERED, AND IF POSSIBLE GET WRITTEN CONFIRMATION OF SOME KIND. The first time I did the loan, I had to turn in the dang Entrance Counseling confirmation sheet 3x because the first two people I turned it into, scanned it into the pc, but "forgot" to hit a certain key on the pc checking it off or something, thus delaying me receiving my refund by almost 2 mos!

Hopefully everything goes swimmingly for you..if so:

If this is your first student loan you will receive your refund (only the loan portion, you should get your Pell Grant/Other Grants on Sept. 2nd) on the 31st day after classes start. So, since classes start Aug 22nd, approx Sept. 23rd.

If this is not your first student loan, then you will receive your loan refund at the same as your Pell Grant refund, Sept. 2nd.

Good Luck All, and keep me posted with all of your Nursing preparations, especially the differences between the clinical locations, and what you guys think is better, TGH, UCH, or St. Joe. I keep changing my mind about which location I want! TGH-cuz if you can handle that, you can handle anything, plus I've heard they hire you if you clinical with them. UCH-cuz its a small hosp..potentially not as challenging, which could be good for me since I'm worried about my gag reflex, and St.Joe-cuz it is Christian, and so am I, in addition to the Charity aspect, and it is somewhere in between UCH and TGH difficulty wise. At least..those are my assumptions. Any info you all have is greatly appreciated.

One last thing... can someone please post the immunizations you have to get, along with the physical requirements? My insurance ends on Sept 30th, and my new one doesn't kick in until January, so I really want to try and get all the immunizations and physical before my insurance runs out, and I'm pretty sure our orientation (again assuming I get in..thinking positive) won't be until October.

Okay. Longest post ever. I know, your eyes hurt. Sowwy :-P

Oh, sorry. The first form I listed, is NOT the Student Acknowledgement form..it is the Loan Request Form. That must be filled out along with the Student Acknowledgement form which is on the link below:
