Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

U.S.A. Florida

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Well, those numbers sure didn't help my stress level!! Lol. I should be leaning towards a 3.81 (if all goes well in my Trig class), so I think I'm safe. But should something go wrong, at least I know where I HAVE to be in order to get any kind of seat. I'm getting more and more excited/nervous/anxious/terrified knowing I've made it this far and only have one more semester to get through before it's finally here. Thanks so much for the info!!

Oh, and I couldn't even imagine not finding out until the day before orientation! Talk about a brain OVERLOAD!!

Why are you taking trig? Are you trying to replace a lower math? Have you taken statistics?

Trying to replace College Algebra. I received a B and if I can snag an A with Trig...I'll be right at 3.81 instead of 3.67 (I also received a B in A&PI, so this is my only alternative). I'm just getting very worried about my GPA and would feel much more at ease applying with a 3.81 instead. I haven't taken statistics. I was going to...until I saw that it wasn't accepted as a "higher math"...which really stinks because I actually WANTED to take stats. :(

A 3.67 is pretty darn good but I definitely applaud you on trying to be even more competitive!! I remember when I was taking my pre-reqs I thought I would be done but now... I'm here and waiting for the fall!!! Snag that A!!! And join us!!! :yeah:

I thought Stats was a higher math. It's STA 2023 versus the college algebra math of MAC 1105. That's weird. Well, if you're planning on getting a BSN, there are 4 classes you need to take at HCC because it's cheaper and while you wait for your application to get through. These classes are: statistics, Chemistry, Ethics, and Human Nutrition (not Nutrition and Drugs). If you take the Chemistry for Health Sciences it's going to be considered a lower chem class if you want to go into Chem 2 or higher. You would have to retake Chem 1. I didn't know that and I wished I did because I would have taken CHEM I. I wanted to take biology but the pre-req was CHEM I. Boo.

Good on you for trying to be more competitive. It doesn't hurt to do so and if you'd like to move up to MSN, you'll be ahead. I heard that for the masters we would have to take one Calculus class. Anyway, keep it up! Good luck.

I really hope to get the GPA I'm looking for! I'm patiently waiting for January to roll around so I can stop stressing for a few months knowing everything is turned in, lol.

As for the math course, I contacted the nursing department to find out what "higher math" was accepted. I was told anything over MAC1105, except stats (of course). So stats is a higher level...but nursing doesn't accept it for initial...which is stupid if it's needed for a BSN! Thanks for those courses. I was going to take Human Nutrition just as an elective, so it looks like that would be a good idea!

Of course, now that I'm this close...I was just told today there's a possibility that I could be moving out of state within the next year. For my sake, I'm hoping this can be pushed off until I'm done...but if not, I have NO clue what I'll do. Do they even allow you to transfer into another nursing program once you've already completed half of it somewhere else? I guess the old saying "the only thing for certain is everything changes" is SO completely true!!!

From what I heard, you can transfer to another college if you've finished the first semester. After the first semester you can apply for a CNA or take a test to get a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). But I'm facing the same thing. My husband's in the Army and we might have to move.

This was pretty unexpected...I assumed it would happen a few years from now, but I think it might be coming before then. It looks like Texas is where I'll be going, dreading that awful heat (and out of state tuition for a year!), but change is good right? Lol, that's what I keep telling myself. I want to get my first semester done at HCC since it's so much easier to get into the program, if I can do more than the first semester...awesome! If not, I'll finish where ever I end up. I did call a college in Texas today (most likely the one I'll be at) and the process, though it seems kind of annoying, shouldn't be too terribly hard.

Had anybody registered for the HCC Nursing Incoming Student CPR course, that supposed to be held today (7/12/11) at Dale Mabry Campus from 5pm until 9pm ROOM D-362 (Nursing Lab)? Is this course cancelled or not?

i was offered a slot for plant city daytime the monday after orientation. I had a C in algebra and a B in english from PSU, i thought i was going to take a higher math and wait another year. I have orientation august 4th. Imagine being told you didnt get in and then getting a phone call from the nursing dept. after orientation and they tell you they have a vacant slot and ask you if you want it. I was VERY HAPPY. Anyone interested in carpooling from tampa to plant city? I dont have a car and it would be cheaper to just pay for gas than to buy a car.

Question for those whor are accustomed to HCC. How long after school begins does Fin Aid begin to disburse?

Hey, I have no idea but did you receive your award yet? What other class you taking to be full time?

I'm not taking any other because I have to do fin aid appeals because of my over credits+ I have an AA already. Doesn't matter how many classes I take... They will only pay for the Nursing classes.... Fine by me! I haven't gotten the award letter but I do have the potential award. I guess they are still evaluating... what takes so long I will NEVER know.
