Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Does anyone know where we can get those shots for a cheaper price? I have UHC Insurance and hope to find a cheaper place than the office they suggested at orientation.

I went to my primary care doctor/internist. It is an appointment for a physical and they will draw some titres, most of which is covered through insurance. My suggestion is make an appointment with your primary for your physical and let them know you may need titres, and then call the insurance company to see how what would be covered under your plan for the titres. Everything was covered for me and I have Aetna, and it is not a great plan but worked great for once this time.

The reason why the shots and what not are so expensive at that other place is because the Dr doesnt use insurance, purely money making there.

Thank you for the info. I'm New to Tampa so I have to set up a PCP. I'm gonna call my insurance company once the holiday weekend is over

Can you let me know where your PCP is because the offices I've been calling are of no help. One even said, "No insurance covers adult immunizations period." How true that is I have no idea. Do any of the moderators know whether or not this is true? I called my insurance company and the woman who answered didn't even know what a Titer was!! Unbelievable.

I work at a doctor office. If you over 18 no insurance will cover vaccines but they might cover the titers under the physical...

I got off with the insurance company around 5 pm and drilled him about my policy. He told me that ALL vaccinations under preventitve care and I shouldn't be charged for any of those things related to work or travel vaccinations. I contested and he assured me and said that the woman in the office was incorrect and if I'm charged to immediately call them to handle it because its supposed to be covered. and if anything I can file a claim and be reimbursed. Similar thing happened when I got contacts... One lady told me, "Your insurance doesn't cover this.... But then another woman looked into it and I had NO co-pay... saved me $75!!! I've been seeing conflicting info online but we'll see what happens. thanks for

your help! (I'm not trying to pay an arm and a leg for all these vaccinations) I even told him which ones I needed lol.

Back from the docs office... that girl killed my arm looking for a brain now I'm all battered and bruised :-( but the good news is my shots were FREE. A $25 copay and I got my TB, Tetorifice, and my Varicella Titers done.

Are you not doing the Hepatitis B series? Just wondering, I have set up my appointment with my doc to get mine done the beginning of August, but not sure on the Hepatitis B series?

I already had it done years ago. My mom wasnt playing when it came to my shots

Well you guys sure have given me some relief (and some anxiety, lol)! I'll be applying in January to start next fall. Sounds like the accepted GPAs are pretty reasonable. Now I'm only worried about HCC losing stuff, lol. Congratulations to all who made it in and I wish you all the best of luck!

620 applicants applied into the Nursing Program for this Fall Semester 2011, 160 applicants were being offered a seat and the Cut-off GPA was 3.524. Those who had a 4.00 down to 3.67 GPA were offered a seat at the very beginning and those who had a 3.62 down to 3.476 were offered an Alternate seat and had to wait for another 6 extra weeks of painful. From the Alternates who were being offered a seat, ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE a 3.619 DOWN to 3.52 GPA. Hope this help for you, I believe that's what i heard the General Nursing Manager said on the 1st day of the Nursing ORIENTATION.

Well, those numbers sure didn't help my stress level!! Lol. I should be leaning towards a 3.81 (if all goes well in my Trig class), so I think I'm safe. But should something go wrong, at least I know where I HAVE to be in order to get any kind of seat. I'm getting more and more excited/nervous/anxious/terrified knowing I've made it this far and only have one more semester to get through before it's finally here. Thanks so much for the info!!

Oh, and I couldn't even imagine not finding out until the day before orientation! Talk about a brain OVERLOAD!!
