  1. Did you not get a sheet at orientation with the code? This system is fairly new so I'm just going off of what they did for my class...they may be doing it differently this time.
  2. I'm very glad to hear that. I must say, for the most part, the staff is VERY encouraging. But as you said, you must seek the help. They want you to pass, they want you to succeed in clinical, but they expect you to do the work and reach out to them early so you're not there the last week of class wondering why you didn't pass, etc. Should any of you need anything, I'm reaching the end of the madness and don't mind answering questions. I'll check up on you guys periodically. :)
  3. Hi all, Looks like I found your thread just in time. I see you all just wrapped up with orientation :) I just spent a while reading your posts and it brought back so many feelings I had not too long ago...it actually made me laugh at how similar I felt when I was going through this process. I'm three weeks away from finishing my first semester at the South Shore campus. I can tell you, all of your worries/emotions/frustrations are normal. We've all been there and have felt the same so do not feel as if you are alone. As far as registration after orientation, it was a nightmare for everyone. It's really a huge mess if you ask me. Each student is coded based on the campus/time they're assigned to...if something is slightly off, you can't register. Keep pestering them with emails until it is fixed, that's what I did and within a few days of going back and forth with emails, it was fixed and I was registered for NP1. As many people have said on here, I cannot stress it enough...spend as MUCH time as you can relaxing before this journey starts. I wasn't going to post anything as I think many others have covered it...but I will say this, after reading a post about "divorcing" families while you're in school, etc, etc. I know it is not the same for everyone but I have heard many, many people say they have no life outside of nursing school, no social life...solely nursing school. I chose NOT to make that choice. Yes, I know, even in orientation they tell you that you won't have a life. However, I feel that you need time with family so you don't get SO consumed in nursing school that you get burnt out before you really get into it. I'm not saying I've not given my first semester my all, because I have. I simply have learned how to manage my time to spend time with mostly my family, my friends understand and can wait until I have breaks. Your family is your support system, you need them, so don't completely cut them out of your life during school! Learn to manage your time, get everything done on time, get your reading done as soon as possible (I wouldn't really start reading now...it'll get too overwhelming, you REALLY need to take this time to relax and be with your families. Do make sure you stay ahead on reading in school though)...get all of that stuff done so you CAN have time to spend with your families. If you are just too eager to get started, I'll suggest a book to you that I purchased and read before class. It's not a required book or anything you'll use, it is just something that was suggested to me. I bought it, read it before school started, and think it was beneficial for me personally. Though I had no idea about a lot of things in the book, when I got into class and we started discussing those unfamiliar topics, I had at least read it before and was a little familiar with it. It's called Nursing Fundamentals Demystified, you can get it on Amazon, here's the link: Nursing Fundamentals DeMYSTiFieD: A Self-Teaching Guide (Demystified Nursing): Bennita Vaughans: 9780071495707: Amazon.com: Books Good luck to all of you as you start this crazy, yet rewarding journey! Remember to RELAX and enjoy your life as you know it...it's going to be quite a change in just a few months :)
  4. I purchased a Littman stethoscope as well. I can hear perfectly with it! Definitely worth spending a little extra, in my opinion. For those of you wanting to get a flu shot...they're starting to make their appearance. Publix (only one out of the three near my house actually had them in so I'd call first) and Walgreens are the two places I know of thus far. I paid $30 at Publix.
  5. If you use facebook, I'd go 'like' the HCC page. They're usually pretty good about posting changes. That's how I found out the date had changed.
  6. The system has been going down all week. They extended payment deadline to midnight on the 15th.
  7. I will say that I was thinking calculations were going to be much worse than what they appear to be in the book. I've always been good at math and was worried I'd be a lost duckling. Don't stress yourself too bad because I don't think it's going to be as bad as we're all anticipating. Do make sure you know your conversions though, I know that's going to be the key part. As long as you know basic math, you should be fine.
  8. Purchased my psych book from Amazon. Think I paid around $45 for it. Watch doesn't have to be white, but can't be a "colored" watch. I picked up a silver one.
  9. You may have to wait until the first day of class to get into Blackboard. The first time I used it I had to wait for the first day before I could access anything. I've been enrolled in it for the past year and a half though so I don't know if things have changed since then. I would email your professor and find out if they'll be uploading anything that you'll need to gain access to before class starts.
  10. I'm going. I think they're doing an official SNA thing after classes start...I think.
  11. They haven't said otherwise, so I would assume tomorrow is still the deadline.
  12. My physician has two dates for each on my form...
  13. It's pretty easy Calley :-) Don't stress! The website is on the first couple of pages...an Evolve website, you just have to register for it.
  14. I'm not exactly sure if the documents have to just be submitted by the 3rd or if they have to be approved and marked as 'complete' by the 3rd. It takes a few days for them to review your documents and mark them as complete. Just throwing that out there for those that haven't submitted anything.
  15. Kind of getting the impression they're unaware lol
