Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.
I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?
What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?
The Orientation is too long and boring! The very first 5 hours on Tuesday was just enough to let us know what we need.1.CPR License
2.Physical
3. Immunization
4. Complete those two (8) training from that website she is going to send us on our email.
5. Save money to buy book somewhere from $527 up to $ 900 if you decide to buy each book individually.
6. Uniform ( No visible tatoe, white Nursing Shoes, see a tailor for the Patches and have that tailor put it on the left shoulder, Name tags, etc)
7. Show the New Student how to use Hawknet to register
* Am i missing anything? There should not be go to different rooms, 361, 114 etc.
Lasty, Remember ROOM 315 DTECH, in case we have to talk to that Lady if we're missing anything.
What was that "lady's" name, Lynne Ordoyne? I did not know she was going to email us the info. That is good to know. I agree, everything could have been done in one day or two half days. All in all I am looking forward to August, but am definitely enjoying the summer!!! Anyone in night and weekend at Plant City a fellow student started a FB page. HCC Nursing PC NW 2011 or something like that.
hello all,
i hope that you've enjoyed the orientation as much as i do. i started a page on facebook and invite you to join in. i used facebook to study and post studyaids and discuss teachers and information. the page is called [color=#3b5998]hcc dale mabry nursing class of 2013. if you're going to plant city or southshore i still invite you to join.
when i was doing my pre-reqs we used facebook to post daily questions and we answered the threads. we check facebook everyday almost so why not use it for studying? hope to see you all there.
I liked orientation. I don't know what you guys did with the Plant city groups but we had small time management exercises, which I think are kinda juvenile, but when the coordinators talked about their experiences, it was beneficial. I also liked the affirmation exercise even though it started out really hokey. I would say I enjoyed 70% and disliked 30%. I think overall the two days are also available to meet your peers and start picking out study partners. I sure found some.

agreed!! The affirmations were a little cheesy but after a while (once the apprehension dies down) it becomes a nice experience. I LOVED hearing about the different experiences! I can't wait for school to begin. I'm Sitting with my Perry Potter book as I type LOL. I do think that the orientation can stand to be a little shorter and a single day.

I think that they should make it a mixer/orientation. I would have loved to intermingle with my group and get to know my classmates more, but I guess we'll be doing lots of that for 4 semesters! Did you already register? Did you get the campus you wanted? You're studying already? haha. That's good. I'm going to start at the end of July.
Check your email ladies and gentemen, here is what i found"
It was nice to meet you at orientation. As promised please find attached the instructions to access and complete the Baycare on-line training. As discussed this must be completed prior to starting your first class and will take several hours so I would encourage you to start it at soon as possible.
If you have any questions please let me know, otherwise once you have completed the training please save a copy of your Baycare transcript of training and email, fax or bring it to my office (room 315) as proof of your completion of the class. "

I thought that was such a great idea! I am on there now and can't wait for the rest of the class to join in. How did you feel about our class? I am really confident that we are all going to get along. I didn't meet many but I just got a nice vibe! lol
I was excused from the NP I orientation last week but I feel like I may have missed some things. I actually went through the orientation for the Spring 2011 term so I basically know what transpired. I was just told by another student that the uniform is changing to a white top and wine colored pants. Would someone please confirm this?
I will be attending the daytime program at Plant City. Does anyone know what day the clinical portion is?
I spent most of the day completing the BayCare Hospital requirement and I would suggest not putting it off till the last minute because it is time consuming.
Does anyone know if the "box of books" for NP I are ready to be purchased through the bookstore? I'm ready to open up some books and starting reading.....
Thanks!

i think stephanie262 meant to say analog watch, the one with the ticking second hand. just get a waterproof inexpensive one, i suggest something that you can disinfect and clean if fluids get on it. i called the bookstore this week, they told me to check back mid-july but the manager said it most likely won't be ready until late july. some students already got the clinical calculations for $5 on amazon, and and used edition of the nurse processing i ($20) to start reading. i say if you have the $$ to spend on it then go for it. i have to wait and save up a bit. when you get your gear, don't forget to ask for a student discount (uniform city) or look for coupons online. as for the clinical question, i recommend going on [color=#1c2a47]hcc nursing fall 2011 pc nw on facebook since people check their facebook almost everyday. also you get to see other classmates from your campus. hope this helps. good luck!
