Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

The book list has been available since orientation. They gave us the book list to compare prices and the coupon for 10% off. The book list was also emailed to you by the instructor and on the HCC Nursing Health Sciences page that has all 4 semesters' syllabi. The book package is not available yet. The campus book store said check back the first week of August.

For anyone looking to get a GREAT deal on a few of the books we need for class let me know. Long story but I order all the books last December and forgot about them and then reorder them this summer, so I ended up with 2 brand new books of the Potter/Perry Fundamentals of Nursing 7th Edition along with the study guide. I know I paid over $125 for both books but will sell them both for $50.00. I also have an extra brand new Kaplan NCLEX-RN 2010/2011 review book, which I paid $35 for but will sell for $10. None of the books have even been opened....

Let me know via e-mail ASAP because I plan on posting them on-line for sell.......

All of those Baycare orientations are FINALLY done... What made it so long was the St. Joe's hospital. Their system it COMPLETELY online which seems like it'll be cool to do... now the wait for class to start :-)

ps..

Welcome Spring 2012!!!

Has anyone heard from their instructors on what to start reading at all? I have started looking into the clinical calculation stuff, but wondering about the potter and perry book

I am in PC day program and haven't received any information on what to get started on. I would like to know so I could get a bit of an early start. :)

Hi everyone,

I am half way through the program and wanted to answer the Potter/Perry question. Definitely read the MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION chapter, the VITAL SIGNS/HEALTH ASSESSMENT chapter, and dive right into the first 7 chapters of the Clinical Calculations book. Your math test will be in the first two weeks of the semester. You need to get comfortable with it. It is NOT rocket science, but you need to work the problems in the book. ALSO: start praticing NCLEX style questions...even if you don't have a clue about the actual content. I suggest getting an NCLEX REVIEW book... ALL of the test questions within the program, for ALL of your tests will be NCLEX style. Good luck, and I hope this helps!

OH...you might find it helpful to check out the thread called "HCC Fall 2010". There is a wealth of information there that should help! :)

How is it possible that the bookstore didn't have the books?! Either I'm blind.... or the workers have no idea whats going on! I just got back from out o the country and MAN.... I wish I could at LEAST have the Kees book.

Maybe so, I got my books yesterday. I just gave her my discount Paper for the package. Did you ask for the nursing package?

Yea I specifically asked her for it and she said "we're" out.... mind you I couldn't see where it could possibly be.... I asked her where on the shelf would it be and she pointed at the hcc student manuals... i nearly screamed but I will go again tomorrow.... I ordered the Kees book online...

Hello Everyone! I hope your first semester is going well! I just received my acceptance letter in the mail for the Spring 2012 entry. Squee! I am so excited, and I have a TON of questions that I really can't wait till Orientation for :-) Okay..I will if I have too, but if anyone can answer them for me I would be so thankful!

1.) What are the requirements for the physical? Can it be your own doctor? I'd like to get it done before I lose my health insurance on the 30th.

2.) I noticed some nursing students at the campus last week at about 6:15am. But I know the morning class doesn't start until 9am. Do you have to go to the campus before clinicals or something?

3.) Anything I should know about the first few weeks? Like anything specific I should study?

Thanks so much, I'm sure I have more questions in my brain somewhere, but it is still pretty addled right now. Plus, I don't want to annoy you, I'm sure you are all busy withs school!

Congratulations on getting in! Would you mind releasing your GPA? :)
