    Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

I turned my packet in on Dec 15th so that might be why "my docs" status has changed so early??? Who knows! I'm sure others will follow. Hang in there!

Hello everyone, I just checked "My Documents" and everything is listed as "received" now!

Yes, this same question was posted on previous posts from prior applicant classes. The response they received from MF was that the "needed asap" was something for HCC internally and will remain that way until acceptance letters go out. She also said having anything listed there at all is only an indication that they have received our application package so no worries.

Hi Agonza, I read that they do not count =/-, if you have a b+, it is just a b and if you have an a-, it is just an a. Good luck!

I think you're right Sandm55 that it's never a bad thing to have more then they asked for. A few months ago I read over everything and read that the transition program applicants would have to have proof of the CPR course in their application package. Well, I didn't realize that I was reading the info under the transition program and went and took the course. When I read back over it again, I was scratching my head and wondering why I thought I had to have the course done prior to applying. Once I figured out what I had done, I laughed at myself but added a copy of the certificate anyway! I figure they can't mark you off for too much info.

Hi Psstoops, I didn't turn my ID in either. I read over everything again and I think the ID request was listed under the transitional program and it was a request for your LPN ID. I didn't see anything else asking for an ID but I could have missed it completely! And I'm like you, I wake up in the middle of the night thinking I forgot to turn something in even though I looked over my app at least a dozen times! If anyone knows anything more about ID requirements please let us know.

I don't think they have an application fee, which is nice. I just looked recently after you posted that you were applying there as well and think I remember that there was no fee. FYI - I sent an email to MF this morning and got an auto-reply that she would not be back in the office until the 4th (today) and I didn't hear back from her today. I'm SURE she is digging her way out of all the VM and email messages she got over the break so if you guys haven't heard from her yet, I'm sure she will respond soon.

That doesn't sound right, 3.5 and a snowball's chance??? I'm not so sure you should listen to this person, sounds like a bubble busting, dream sucker! Maybe that counselor sees so many ppl trying to get into the program and they were just being negative. I'm sure everyone that works there is feeling a little overwhelmed and over worked with them opening back up after the holidays. I can't imagine a 3.5 not even having a chance, especially in the transition program. I know at an info session with USF, they said they would pretty much take any ADN so I can't imagine HCC being pickier. Hang in there!

Welcome Allison! Wishing you the best! I signed up for nights in PC as well, so maybe we'll be in the program together. Happy New Year!

Yeah, I did a deep dive into the HCC site after I replied to your post and found the pdf file you posted...took some searching but finally found it. Why do they have so many different places that they post this stuff??? Anyway, those are some pretty steep deductions! I may have just wasted my time this past year getting my pre-reqs completed, not to mention busting my butt to make an A in every class, just to have these guidelines eliminate me from the program. We'll see! My application is already turned in so all I can do now is cross my fingers that grades from over 10 yrs ago won't hold me back. If they do, then I guess it's the bed I made for myself and I'll just have to figure out another route!

Oh no! Don't give up though! Galen will be VERY expensive and if you plan on going on to a BSN or MSN, then you will be forced to stay with high-priced private programs since USF will not take a Galen RN. I would try to get into ANY community college first (even try HCC's spring program since they have taken as low as a 3.12 for alternates) or even go LPN track and then bridge LPN to RN (which I believe you are automatically accepted) before you get into crazy debt with private programs. I believe Galen is almost $30K for just the LPN then you have to bridge to RN anyway...you just have to do it through their program and pay them even MORE $$. St. Pete has fewer pre-reqs so maybe your pre-req GPA is better in their system? Same with Pasco-Hernando. Don't give up!

    Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Welcome Nurse-H! I've been on vacation this week and have spent WAY too much time on this board reading all the past HCC roll call threads. I read that a 3.1 was accepted for the Spring 2010 term and I never found a floor GPA for Fall 2010 but it looks like it was around a 3.4ish, like Sandm55 said. The Spring 3.1 was the floor for alternates and the Fall 3.4ish was just the cut off for regular acceptance (not for the alternates) so I'm sure you will be fine with your 3.33! Worse case, you have to apply for the Spring 2012 but I'm sure you'll get in for Fall 2011. I'm going in with a 3.71 but who knows what deductions they will take for my previous grades at HCC way back in the 1990s when I wasn't as focused. I took English three times before I got my act together. I stopped going to class the first 2 attempts and didn't offically drop the course so I got Fs. MF told me they won't count since it was prior to 1997 but she didn't mention the point deduction for 3rd attempts. I don't know if they just fall off because they are before 1997 or what??? It's so hard to really find all this stuff out and I feel like I learn more on this board then on HCC's site! Where did your find the deduction information on their site? Sandm55, I didn't know you had to have a copy of your ID in the packet???? I turned my packet in before the break and didn't include my ID...looks like I'll be going back to try to add it before Jan 15th. ugh! I signed up for Plant City nights, what is everyone else signed up for?

Love78, Don't listen to the admissions person, if you are interested in the St. Pete program, then apply! All they can do is say no. I know Pasco also gives priority to Pasco Co residents but I'm sure both programs have students from outside their county. I say apply to both (and any other) programs and increase your chances. Good luck!

Oh, good to know about the acceptance letter coming in March! I didn't expect it would be that soon. I've been meaning to go through that thread completely and seen when people received their letters but it is such a long tread and I haven't had the time the last couple of weeks. Thanks for letting us know! Good luck!

Hi Sandm55, I asked some of the same questions on another thread and got some answers you may be interested in. There was a lot of back and forth, so I'm just posting the link below instead of cutting and pasting the responses. I found the information very helpful, hope you do too. Hillsborough Community College Fall 2010 - Page 66- Nursing for Nurses I like some of your questions though, so I hope babynurse responds too.
