  1. I turned my packet in on Dec 15th so that might be why "my docs" status has changed so early??? Who knows! I'm sure others will follow. Hang in there!
  2. Hello everyone, I just checked "My Documents" and everything is listed as "received" now!
  3. Yes, this same question was posted on previous posts from prior applicant classes. The response they received from MF was that the "needed asap" was something for HCC internally and will remain that way until acceptance letters go out. She also said having anything listed there at all is only an indication that they have received our application package so no worries.
  4. Hi Agonza, I read that they do not count =/-, if you have a b+, it is just a b and if you have an a-, it is just an a. Good luck!
  5. I think you're right Sandm55 that it's never a bad thing to have more then they asked for. A few months ago I read over everything and read that the transition program applicants would have to have proof of the CPR course in their application package. Well, I didn't realize that I was reading the info under the transition program and went and took the course. When I read back over it again, I was scratching my head and wondering why I thought I had to have the course done prior to applying. Once I figured out what I had done, I laughed at myself but added a copy of the certificate anyway! I figure they can't mark you off for too much info.
  6. Hi Psstoops, I didn't turn my ID in either. I read over everything again and I think the ID request was listed under the transitional program and it was a request for your LPN ID. I didn't see anything else asking for an ID but I could have missed it completely! And I'm like you, I wake up in the middle of the night thinking I forgot to turn something in even though I looked over my app at least a dozen times! If anyone knows anything more about ID requirements please let us know.
  7. I don't think they have an application fee, which is nice. I just looked recently after you posted that you were applying there as well and think I remember that there was no fee. FYI - I sent an email to MF this morning and got an auto-reply that she would not be back in the office until the 4th (today) and I didn't hear back from her today. I'm SURE she is digging her way out of all the VM and email messages she got over the break so if you guys haven't heard from her yet, I'm sure she will respond soon.
  8. That doesn't sound right, 3.5 and a snowball's chance??? I'm not so sure you should listen to this person, sounds like a bubble busting, dream sucker! Maybe that counselor sees so many ppl trying to get into the program and they were just being negative. I'm sure everyone that works there is feeling a little overwhelmed and over worked with them opening back up after the holidays. I can't imagine a 3.5 not even having a chance, especially in the transition program. I know at an info session with USF, they said they would pretty much take any ADN so I can't imagine HCC being pickier. Hang in there!
  9. Welcome Allison! Wishing you the best! I signed up for nights in PC as well, so maybe we'll be in the program together. Happy New Year!
  10. Yeah, I did a deep dive into the HCC site after I replied to your post and found the pdf file you posted...took some searching but finally found it. Why do they have so many different places that they post this stuff??? Anyway, those are some pretty steep deductions! I may have just wasted my time this past year getting my pre-reqs completed, not to mention busting my butt to make an A in every class, just to have these guidelines eliminate me from the program. We'll see! My application is already turned in so all I can do now is cross my fingers that grades from over 10 yrs ago won't hold me back. If they do, then I guess it's the bed I made for myself and I'll just have to figure out another route!
  11. Oh no! Don't give up though! Galen will be VERY expensive and if you plan on going on to a BSN or MSN, then you will be forced to stay with high-priced private programs since USF will not take a Galen RN. I would try to get into ANY community college first (even try HCC's spring program since they have taken as low as a 3.12 for alternates) or even go LPN track and then bridge LPN to RN (which I believe you are automatically accepted) before you get into crazy debt with private programs. I believe Galen is almost $30K for just the LPN then you have to bridge to RN anyway...you just have to do it through their program and pay them even MORE $$. St. Pete has fewer pre-reqs so maybe your pre-req GPA is better in their system? Same with Pasco-Hernando. Don't give up!
  12. Welcome Nurse-H! I've been on vacation this week and have spent WAY too much time on this board reading all the past HCC roll call threads. I read that a 3.1 was accepted for the Spring 2010 term and I never found a floor GPA for Fall 2010 but it looks like it was around a 3.4ish, like Sandm55 said. The Spring 3.1 was the floor for alternates and the Fall 3.4ish was just the cut off for regular acceptance (not for the alternates) so I'm sure you will be fine with your 3.33! Worse case, you have to apply for the Spring 2012 but I'm sure you'll get in for Fall 2011. I'm going in with a 3.71 but who knows what deductions they will take for my previous grades at HCC way back in the 1990s when I wasn't as focused. I took English three times before I got my act together. I stopped going to class the first 2 attempts and didn't offically drop the course so I got Fs. MF told me they won't count since it was prior to 1997 but she didn't mention the point deduction for 3rd attempts. I don't know if they just fall off because they are before 1997 or what??? It's so hard to really find all this stuff out and I feel like I learn more on this board then on HCC's site! Where did your find the deduction information on their site? Sandm55, I didn't know you had to have a copy of your ID in the packet???? I turned my packet in before the break and didn't include my ID...looks like I'll be going back to try to add it before Jan 15th. ugh! I signed up for Plant City nights, what is everyone else signed up for?
  13. Love78, Don't listen to the admissions person, if you are interested in the St. Pete program, then apply! All they can do is say no. I know Pasco also gives priority to Pasco Co residents but I'm sure both programs have students from outside their county. I say apply to both (and any other) programs and increase your chances. Good luck!
  14. Oh, good to know about the acceptance letter coming in March! I didn't expect it would be that soon. I've been meaning to go through that thread completely and seen when people received their letters but it is such a long tread and I haven't had the time the last couple of weeks. Thanks for letting us know! Good luck!
  15. Hi Sandm55, I asked some of the same questions on another thread and got some answers you may be interested in. There was a lot of back and forth, so I'm just posting the link below instead of cutting and pasting the responses. I found the information very helpful, hope you do too. Hillsborough Community College Fall 2010 - Page 66- Nursing for Nurses I like some of your questions though, so I hope babynurse responds too.
  16. Sandm55, That does stink! I hate that some of these rules are not known until it's too late. Well, good luck to you! Also, by my calculations, since babynurse finished the program this term, then she would have started in a Spring term.
  17. Great information, thank you! I have been debating if I should quit my current job (which pays very well but is not in health care) to get a part time tech job once I get through NP1 or NP2 so I can get some experience. I hate to give up my current salary before I have to since I know I'll be taking a pay cut in nursing but I think it will be necessary in order to land a job once I've graduated. Thanks for sharing. I assume we'll learn a lot more about the available internships in our area once we are at that stage in the program? Or is that something we will have to research on our own?
  18. Hello Babynurse! Thanks for your insight and congratulations on finishing the program!!! I have more questions for you!!! We didn't have the option of 1st, 2nd or 3rd on our applications, we were only asked if we wanted day or evening. Maybe they have changed this part since you applied and are now asking for choices once accepted...I guess we'll see! Ok, so my questions are around getting a job in this crazy economy. There are several threads on here where they make it sound pretty much impossible to land a job as a new grad so I'm interested in hearing your experience. 1) Were you an LPN before or had any health care experience at all? 2) Did you do any work in health care throughout the program (ie tech job after 1st or 2nd semester, etc.)? 3) Do you currently have a job lined up now or are you in the job seeking process? 4) Do you know anything about any of the local hospital internships for new grads (I think I've seen on here that they call them internships but I'm not sure)? Thank you so much for checking our tread out and sharing your knowledge!
  19. Hello Kiki! I too was not the best of students early on and wondered if I would do well. Although I don't feel like my "memory" skills are as sharp, I think my "focus" skills are MUCH better! I was uncertain which program to request too but ended up asking for evenings (b/c I will probably need evenings over days due to work). When I stopped by the nursing office and spoke with M, she said that they usually do not place people in days or evenings until you have been accepted. She said once you are accepted, you are asked to place your campus preference (which is also tied to evening or day program) in order of 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. I believe applicants are then placed into their campus choice based on GPA but I don't know that for sure. Maybe some NP1 or NP2 students can fill us in more on this if there are any reading this???? Good luck! Does anyone know when we hear if we're accepted? I assume April/May but maybe someone has an exact date??
  20. Hello and welcome! When did you drop algebra? I had a very rocky start many years ago and dropped English twice but they didn't say anything about a deduction, in fact, she said since those classes were taken before 1997, they would not be counted. If I have calculated correctly, I should be going in with a 3.71, but that is by my calculations and not taking any deductions into account that I may not be aware of. I have read on this site that there have been some GPAs under 3.4 accepted. What I have seen is that the cut off is usually 3.4 but then there are lower GPAs accepted afterwards when people do not finish the sign up process due to getting accepted to another program. Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
  21. Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started. I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application? What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?
  22. Thanks PERSGIRL! I ordered three of the books mentioned on here to get me started. I decide I'm going to take this upcoming spring term off from any classes and just focus on reading and preparing for NP1, which I hope I will be starting Aug of 2011. I have a question for anyone that has been accepted. When you got your notice that your application package had been received, did it state that you had everything needed for the application or just that it had been received? I just turned my package in this past week and I received my self-addressed, stamped envelop in the mail yesterday but it was only stamped on the back with "RECEIVED 2010 Dec 15 PM 4:25", which was the day I dropped it in the box. Does this mean they received it AND it had everything or just that they received it? I assume it is not confirmation that the package is complete. If that is the case, how do I confirm that they have everything they need? Thanks for all your help!
  23. Hello jpearsonrn! Welcome to allnurses. To connect with wound care nurses go to the "specialty tab" under the allnurses logo then click on "Nursing Specialties". On that page go to the very bottom and click on "wound, ostomy & ureterostomy". There is probably a ton of great info in that link. Good luck!
  24. "and this just chapped my a$$!" Love it! First of all, congratulations on getting an A in the class and never having to deal with this guy again! Not only did you win the battle but also the war! Secondly, I don't blame you for being annoyed, I know I would be, and my husband would have to hear about "how it's the principal of the whole thing that really chaps my a$$!" over and over again until he would have to tell me to get over it and move on with my A. Thirdly, the evaluation is there for you to be able to provide constructive feedback to the professor and the school, so yes, you should mention your concerns in a professional and unemotional manner in the evaluation. The presentation of your concerns is what will determine if notice is taken or not. Usually these evaluations are given to us the last night of class, right before a final, so we usually rush through them and turn them in with anything just to get our test in hand and vomit all our "memorized knowledge". You have the luxury of constructing a thoughtful evaluation since this is an online course, so use that to your advantage. I would love to see the evaluation you come up with, so please post it if appropriate and you would like to. Congrats again and enjoy your holiday break!
  25. Hmmm, hard to say which state is better then others but I can at least share the basics for my area of Florida (just my city not the entire state). My local 4 yr university requires the following: * GPA requirement of previous degree is stated as 3.1 HOWEVER they have not taken anything below 3.4 in the past couple of terms and most of the accepted GPAs were 3.7 and above due to the large number of applicants. * They also accept an essay along with the application and a list of professional accomplishments to help in balancing out a lower GPA. * I believe there is also an interview which can additionally help those with lower GPAs. * They typically have about 500 applications every application period (I believe they only do one a year but no more then two a year) and out of that number, they take about 25 students When I attended the info session for the ABSN program, I was told the best bet to insure acceptance is to get an RN degree from an accredited program in the state of Florida and then transfer over to the BSN or RN-MSN program. Having an in-state RN would pretty much insure acceptance into their program. I have a friend that completed her RN out of state and they did not accept her (even though she is from here and got her LPN from a Florida school) . She had a good GPA and all, but with an out of state degree, they weren't interested. I would take a look at how many schools there are in each state vs. population, which may tell you which state might be easier to get in??? In my city, there is only one public university for ABSN and I am in a large metro area, but there are also about 4 private schools that offer an ABSN for a much higher price and I heard they don't really turn too many ppl away. If you are willing to spend the money or rack up the student loans then take a look at some private schools.
