Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

U.S.A. Florida

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

I'm in the same boat. I'm not feeling too hopeful with my 3.14 GPA. I'm trying to be positive though. I'm studying to take the TEAS so I can apply to PHCC and I'm also taking the PAX-PN for Galen, which will be my last resource. But I'm looking more towards Galen because I honestly don't have the time to be waiting for more than a year to get into a community college.

I definitely feel like I just wasted two years. I know my stuff, I'm just a horrible test taker, which kills me. I have absolutely no hope of getting in.

Hey fellow Fall 2011 hopefuls!!! I JUST submitted my application and looked over everything bout 26 times in the post office. I had to apologize to the postal worker because of my paranoia!!! anyhow, according to my gpa calculation i have a 3.714... And yet I'm STILL keeping my fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong with my app... glad I'm not the only one going crazy... I'm a little fearful about receiving FIN AID when Im going to have 120 credits plus w/ no bachelor but w/ an Associates.... any body here knowledgeable about the fin aid process for HCC?

Hey everyone!

I understand how some of you feel in regards to GPA and being accepted. I don't feel too good about my GPA either. HCC is my first choice because of location and cost, other than that, I know there are other options. I know some of you may not feel too much hope about getting in but just know that if you really want to become a nurse, you will get there no matter what road you end up taking. It's really hard for me to imagine crossing that bridge every day and early in the morning and during traffic hour at that to get to GAlen or St pete college, but I keep on telling myself that if I needed to do that temporarily to get to where I want to be then it's ok. It's a sacrifice that is only temporary, and the result will be all worth it. I know my chances of getting in for the Fall will not be as great as the spring, so I already thought about back up plans just in case. Keep the faith everyone, but also have a backup plan just in case it doesn't work out this time..it will eventually. If you really want it, you CAN make it happen. It may be a little bit of a tougher road, but we all WILL get there as long as we DON'T give up trying. If you really want it, pray about it, and it will happen. Even if it isn't the way you expected (through HCC). At the end of the journey, we will all become RN's and it's not really important how we got there, but that we got there.. :)

I too am very depressed. I'm shooting for the May transition track and went to turn in my app today and meet with a counselor and was told that my 3.5 means I have a snowball's chance of getting in. I thought the transition track was automatic acceptance...the counselor just looked at me like I'm stupid and said "Oh sure, 10 years ago!"

I feel like I wasted two years now doing pre-reqs. Anyone else feel like this?

That doesn't sound right, 3.5 and a snowball's chance??? I'm not so sure you should listen to this person, sounds like a bubble busting, dream sucker! Maybe that counselor sees so many ppl trying to get into the program and they were just being negative. I'm sure everyone that works there is feeling a little overwhelmed and over worked with them opening back up after the holidays. I can't imagine a 3.5 not even having a chance, especially in the transition program. I know at an info session with USF, they said they would pretty much take any ADN so I can't imagine HCC being pickier.

Hang in there!

3.5 is in..no worries! Those advisors at HCC are not who you should be talking to if you are looking for words of encouragement. In fact, every time after I have left a meeting with an advisor, I feel the complete opposite. They also told me I have slim chance unless I get all A's and maybe one B. I know this is untrue. Also, I've emailed some people in the nursing department, and they were way more encouraging with me even with a 3.2. They told me not to give up because they will accept applicants up til the first day of class if they needed to. Situations change and people change their minds at the last minute for whatever reason. But, I can tell you that if you have a 3.5, I'm pretty confident you are in unless something didn't go right with paperwork or there was a miscalculation. That's a great GPA and transition program is way less competitive I heard.

Sandm55, you are right. I been studying for Galen entrance exam and sometimes when I think how I will have to cross that bridge I get a little discourage but like you say, it will only be temporary until I reach my goal. Galen is my back up plan if I don't get in HCC or St. Petes. I just hope I can pass the PAX-PN or the TEAS. I took the TEAS before and failed. The math and science is hard. Your words are very encouraging. Thanks

Sandm55: who in the nursing dept have you emailed? I can't get a darn person to respond. I'm still very unhopeful. They receive over 600 apps every time and only take 140 so I am sure my 3.0 isn't going to suffice. I already turned in my app in December but I'm moving on!

Look on the very First page of the Nursing Application and you should be able to see an email address and where to send that Nursing application. She will answer you and she is the best person to address to, if you have any issue. The very first page says " Thank you for your interest .......

or click the link below and look for that email address

I can imagine the TEAS would be hard. I bought the book to study from. I paid like 30 bucks for it but heard it's what is used to get the TEAS questions from. I haven't studied it, just looked through it. I spoke to MF at HCC and YM. I'm not sure we are supposed to list names here, so I only put initials. It may take them awhile to get back to you now since I'm sure they are swamped after the holiday break. I asked them questions before the break started and I received responses the same day by YM and usually next day by MF. Does anyone know if there is an application fee for the nursing program at ST Pete college? I faxed my application before the break, but it didn't say to submit payment.

Hi everyone

I am very frustrated, today I went to HCC to get some help filling out my appl. The counselor did'nt know anything about the nursing program, he just told me to email MF . Anyone knows where to address the check or money order? I imagine is HCC/health department. Also, I took all of my classes at hcc only, do I need to include transcripts from HCC to HCC?

I spoke with the nursing program manager today. She said there is no way of knowing what the GPA will be like for this period, and told me to take a higher level math... Ugh.
