Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Welcome Nurse-H!

I've been on vacation this week and have spent WAY too much time on this board reading all the past HCC roll call threads. :D I read that a 3.1 was accepted for the Spring 2010 term and I never found a floor GPA for Fall 2010 but it looks like it was around a 3.4ish, like Sandm55 said. The Spring 3.1 was the floor for alternates and the Fall 3.4ish was just the cut off for regular acceptance (not for the alternates) so I'm sure you will be fine with your 3.33! Worse case, you have to apply for the Spring 2012 but I'm sure you'll get in for Fall 2011.

I'm going in with a 3.71 but who knows what deductions they will take for my previous grades at HCC way back in the 1990s when I wasn't as focused. I took English three times before I got my act together. I stopped going to class the first 2 attempts and didn't offically drop the course so I got Fs. MF told me they won't count since it was prior to 1997 but she didn't mention the point deduction for 3rd attempts. I don't know if they just fall off because they are before 1997 or what??? It's so hard to really find all this stuff out and I feel like I learn more on this board then on HCC's site! Where did your find the deduction information on their site?

Sandm55, I didn't know you had to have a copy of your ID in the packet???? I turned my packet in before the break and didn't include my ID...looks like I'll be going back to try to add it before Jan 15th. ugh!

I signed up for Plant City nights, what is everyone else signed up for?

I calculated my prereq GPA and I have a 3.14. Now I'm depressed. Maybe I should go to Galen. I'm taking chemistry this semester while I wait and see if I get into the program with my low GPA if not I may try again or just go to Galen.

I'm applying to Dale M. day time.

Oh no! Don't give up though!

Galen will be VERY expensive and if you plan on going on to a BSN or MSN, then you will be forced to stay with high-priced private programs since USF will not take a Galen RN.

I would try to get into ANY community college first (even try HCC's spring program since they have taken as low as a 3.12 for alternates) or even go LPN track and then bridge LPN to RN (which I believe you are automatically accepted) before you get into crazy debt with private programs. I believe Galen is almost $30K for just the LPN then you have to bridge to RN anyway...you just have to do it through their program and pay them even MORE $$.

St. Pete has fewer pre-reqs so maybe your pre-req GPA is better in their system? Same with Pasco-Hernando.

Don't give up!

hi sla2011 thanks for your reply. here is the link were i found the gpa calculation www.hccfl.edu/media/98286/selection%20and%20appeal.pdf it has good info, and yes i have found this site to be more helpful, sad to say it.

Oh no Love78 don't lose hope. I spoke to someone yesterday that is graduating from the program in may, she told me that she got C's in all her science classes. How she got in? I don't know, but she told that is possible. Think possitive :)

Yeah, I did a deep dive into the HCC site after I replied to your post and found the pdf file you posted...took some searching but finally found it. Why do they have so many different places that they post this stuff???

Anyway, those are some pretty steep deductions! I may have just wasted my time this past year getting my pre-reqs completed, not to mention busting my butt to make an A in every class, just to have these guidelines eliminate me from the program. We'll see! My application is already turned in so all I can do now is cross my fingers that grades from over 10 yrs ago won't hold me back. If they do, then I guess it's the bed I made for myself and I'll just have to figure out another route!

Thanks Sla2011, I will apply to St Pete's as well. PHCC has the TEAS and I didn't pass the Math and Science portion. I may re take it, if I have time to study. Galen is very expensive and is one of the reason I'm haven't applied yet. Maybe I can re take Eng or Socio to bring my GPA higher. I will stay positive. I have gone a long way thinking positive and I should continue. Thanks

Nurse-H, I'm hopeful now.. Thanks.. I will stay positive..

Hello. I am a HCC Fall 2011 nursing hopeful. My application has been submitted (Nov 4) and I am anxiously and patiently waiting for a letter. I see that I will probably receive something in March. Anyway I just wanted to post to get in touch with people who are going through the same thing I am. I applied and marked night school at Plant City as my number one preferance. I would be going in with a B.S. in Biomedical Science from USF if I am accepted. At the same time my boyfriend will be leaving for the military UGH! But hopefully nursing will help keep my mind off of him being gone. :o(

Hope to be apart of a nursing family with all of you! :rckn:

Allison

Welcome Allison!

Wishing you the best! I signed up for nights in PC as well, so maybe we'll be in the program together.

Happy New Year!

I am very depressed. My gpa is 3.0 due to a C in anatomy 1 and a C in algebra. I turned in my app on Dec 17 but I met with an advisor today and she said my chances of getting in were virtually impossible. And there is nothing to do to raise my gpa. I feel like I wasted two years! She told me it will likely be April befor we get our letters.

Specializes in Addiction, psych.

I too am very depressed. I'm shooting for the May transition track and went to turn in my app today and meet with a counselor and was told that my 3.5 means I have a snowball's chance of getting in. I thought the transition track was automatic acceptance...the counselor just looked at me like I'm stupid and said "Oh sure, 10 years ago!"

I feel like I wasted two years now doing pre-reqs. Anyone else feel like this?
