Ok, now I understand that not everyone learns at the same level but give me a break. This person is seriously starting to get on everyone's nerves.
I would not be so frustrated except for the the fact that if the person would just shut up she might actually hear what the instructors were saying and what they were saying needed to be corrected on lecture notes that were handed out. They are so busy running their mouth to prove how smart they are or to try to prove the instructors wrong that they are no longer paying attention to the lecture. I can tell you one instructor said three times "I don't know why I put that under care plans and not nursing interventions so make sure you change that in the notes..." and this person after running their mouth for 5 minutes raised their hand and said "where are you at on the notes you handed out?" This person does this every day!!!! I swear I heard someone say "I am about ready to throw something sharp and pointy at them if they don't shut up!" I get it we are all stress out. For Gods sake I had a patient die while in clinical this week!! (Before you start thinking uh oh, they passed after a very long illness)
Now I will admit I would be suspicious if it was just me, but everyone in the class feels this way. This person starts to talk and you can hear a collective HEAVY sigh. The other day they went so far as to hijack the class for so long that we ran 30 minutes over and the instructor still did not finish the lecture.
I guess what I am asking is what should we do as a class? There is a suggestion box in and some of us are really tempted to write down "tell this person to shut up!" It is reaching a point where the instructors are pulling the menu act. You know when they ask a question and this person raises her hand they put the menu up in front of their face like if I can't see them, then they can't see me. We are all trying to be really patient with this person, but we are really tired of it. We have spoken to them about maybe approaching the instructor after class to ask their questions and make their arguments then so that we can all learn from the lecture and it has only seemed to make matters worse.
Help!!
While I can understand your frustration, it is important to treat fellow students with respect. This would be a good opportunity to work on professional people skillsI would express my concerns to the instructor in careful/diplomatic manner. Rudeness can actually get you booted.
Diplomacy - shmiplomacy.... I say, next time this person raises his hand or opens his mouth, the whole class should just go "Booooooooooo!!!!" Hahaha! That would be hillarious! :lol2:
I know this isnt PC, but approach this person, tell them that their question/comment is long and drawn out and not beneficial to other students in the class. They will say that they are a student and they have a right to ask anything they want.
Tell your teachers that you want them to tallk to this person to tell them to shut up and quit asking retarded questions. When I was in FNP school, we had a RN who worked as a paramedic for a while and always had a comment/.
I bet she sits at the front of the class, too!!
I think every class has one...that's where I perfected my incredulous look. Given with a slight shake of your head, it's pretty effective
If that fails, go to your instructor. You and fellow students have a right to lecture without senseless interruption.
Send that person an angry gram...
Your problem is not with the student but with the instructor. The instructor is responsible for keeping order in the class. Talk to the instructor and ask her if she can't keep the student in line and stop her from being so disruptive during class. Otherwise, report the instructor to the dean of the program.
I can feel your pain. We have one too.....he interrupts the class at any moment he can . The other day he asked a question, then as the instructor was answering it for him, he was texting on his phone! Maybe if he was actually asking important questions it wouldn't matter, but he often interrupts to give his personal opinion, relate two things that are totally in left field, and it just annoys us! His voice makes us roll our eyes......someone kept tally of his comments/opionions and it totalled up to 10 times in lecture!!
I don't think there is much you can do. This person is a paying student, and has a right to ask as many questions as he or she wants. I know what you mean, though. We had one just like that in my class, and she was so annoying. We just all got used to it and dealt with it.
Although I agree they do have a right as a paying student to ask questions, they do not have a right to monopolize class and allow it to run over. Many people have other obligations besides school and 1/2 hour can be very precious. If his/her question cannot be answered sufficiently for that person in a few minutes, then they should see the intructor after class or when they have office hours. Monopolizing class with question after question does not also allow the other paying students to get their questions in.
But I ditto that it is the instructors role to cut that person off and maintain order in the classroom. If need be, the instructor needs to just say, hold all questions until the end and I will stay after for anyone that needs me. A good instructor knows how to deal with students like that.
