Hijacking The Class

Published

Ok, now I understand that not everyone learns at the same level but give me a break. This person is seriously starting to get on everyone's nerves.

I would not be so frustrated except for the the fact that if the person would just shut up she might actually hear what the instructors were saying and what they were saying needed to be corrected on lecture notes that were handed out. They are so busy running their mouth to prove how smart they are or to try to prove the instructors wrong that they are no longer paying attention to the lecture. I can tell you one instructor said three times "I don't know why I put that under care plans and not nursing interventions so make sure you change that in the notes..." and this person after running their mouth for 5 minutes raised their hand and said "where are you at on the notes you handed out?" This person does this every day!!!! I swear I heard someone say "I am about ready to throw something sharp and pointy at them if they don't shut up!" I get it we are all stress out. For Gods sake I had a patient die while in clinical this week!! (Before you start thinking uh oh, they passed after a very long illness)

Now I will admit I would be suspicious if it was just me, but everyone in the class feels this way. This person starts to talk and you can hear a collective HEAVY sigh.:banghead: The other day they went so far as to hijack the class for so long that we ran 30 minutes over and the instructor still did not finish the lecture.

I guess what I am asking is what should we do as a class? There is a suggestion box in and some of us are really tempted to write down "tell this person to shut up!" It is reaching a point where the instructors are pulling the menu act. You know when they ask a question and this person raises her hand they put the menu up in front of their face like if I can't see them, then they can't see me. We are all trying to be really patient with this person, but we are really tired of it. We have spoken to them about maybe approaching the instructor after class to ask their questions and make their arguments then so that we can all learn from the lecture and it has only seemed to make matters worse.

Help!!

One time the professor actually told one of them to "take a chill pill and relax". The whole class started laughing and that person got embarrassed and didn't say a single thing for the rest of the lecture. :p

How professional. All professors should teach their students to ridicule and publicly humiliate those that annoy them.

Your instructor needs to handle that person. My instructor last semester was the nicest, caring instructor... however she NEVER tolerated a student talking while she was talking, or rambled on and on.

Once there was a guy always running his mouth in the background with other instructors.

When this instructor taught, he thought he could do the same. She said to him" Is there something you want to share c- the class, since you are talking while I'm talking ?" He said no. Then he cont. and she threatned to have him leave the lecture, after that we haven't heard a peep out of him.

During her class it was so quiet, you can hear a nickel role on the carpet !

I've been taking various classes/ courses since 82 and there is one in every class and if you can't spot them the one is YOU. :)

I hate to say it, but I've totally been that person. I have to hold myself back from asking questions, but at least they're never "where are you in the notes?" :chuckle
