How many of you are school nurses in a high school? Also, what kind of office rules do you have posted up for your students? Information as well, for the students to read.. I am enjoying my job so far. Nothing too serious yet, maybe jus a few sprains here and there due to the icy sidewalks.. I'm loving it :) Plenty of paperwork throughout the day though. I am still trying to make myself comfortable around the students and other staff members. What kind of presentation ideas do you present to the students?

no. :woot:

Yep. They are most likely to send kids to my office without a pass. Some I love. Some I don't.

I'm lucky because the ones going on the trip with me? LOVE THEM.

Oh passes. We have a rule, you don't give me a pass, I don't give you a pass. Even during passing period. You need a pass from the class you left or from the class you're going to.

Welcome to the wonderful world of HS nursing. I would NOT work with any other population!

No clinic rules. I just yell at them PRN.

I have drug posters, suicide hotline posters, feel good about your body posters, an Einstein sticking his tongue out poster, the awards I won for the blood drives hung up, etc.

I have grades 7-12. Ask me anything.

You need to add the Wikihow info about how to fake being sick to fool the clueless school nurse. [emoji41]

Thanks y'all! I'm really enjoying it! Students are starting to notice me  Thanks for all the wonderful advice.. right now my bulletin is so blank, I only have one U of A wall decal up. Right now, I'm trying to set up vision and hearing screens for my ess students on Monday. I've had a couple "fakers" coming in, so I had to straighten that up. Almost got me, until I started reading through some of these threads. It's a lot of help and I am excited to get acquainted with many of you. High school isn't too bad since I graduated. Not many students come in on a daily basis, so I guess they understand a booboo from an injury :nurse:

And. Aren't the HS teachers a whole lot more fun to work with?? Compared to the Elem. teachers. Wow. In my experience. A completely different mind set. (and I mean that in a good way).

That is my experience actually. I'm a substitute and I am no longer willing to work elementary unless its the school for medically fragile students.

Love my high school job!! I'm so sad the days I have to rotate to my elementary schools. Some times I feel like I am the local convenience store. I keep everything there from deodorant to lint rollers to clean underwear and socks. They are just tall kids with boobs and beards! No rules posted but they learn quickly what my expectations are. Keep the language PG and don't mess with my wheelchair![emoji3] I come on here and complain but this is the best job I have ever had.

Love "Don't mess with my wheelchair!"

Haha!! My wheelchair is kept in my bathroom, folded up an tucked in a corner. Most kids don't even realize I have one because of where I keep it. Except for that ONE kid. I had a student go IN the bathroom specifically to move the wheelchair out into my main office space so he could play with it. DUDE!!!
