Student with Forced Intercourse Report
I'm only a CNA and we do not have an RN on board with our district. I am at a crossroads. I have a freshman student who came in today and she told me she was forced to have intercourse with her older cousin brother. Anyway, she told the hospital when she was seen before but I guess they did nothing but send her to a counselor to be seen. The assistant principal and I spoke with the mother and the mother thinks it might have happened years ago because it happened where they lived before they moved which was about 3 years ago. I was told to write a report on what had happened, but all I have is an accident report where the accident happened on school campus. I don't know if I should type out a report from MS Word and just place that in her file or use the accident report file. We also involved social services but that was already sent off and filed away now. This is the first incident that has happened with me, now i'm not sure where to begin at with documenting. Please help me out as in what I should do next.... I feel for this girl as I was in her shoes before when I was younger.

I'm back and pregnant!
I have had a marvelous half a year in the nurse's office, so I decided to come back another year as a health assistant. I am glad I did, all the students are so welcoming :) I've had my run ins already with behavioral health issues, the tummy flu, and headaches last week. Anyway, I recently found out I am pregnant and I just about almost blew my head off with this student who gives myself and the counselors a hard time. It's absolutely ridiculous, but we are doing our best to help her. These hormones dealing with my teenagers are a whole different story. LOL! I'm enjoying my year and would like to wish others out there a great school year as well

HEEEEELP... ASAP
Thanks OldDude, I just needed reassurance that I'm doing the right thing. Sometimes the staff from her group home will jus become "annoyed" and not answer the phone calls so I will jus stick with my plan and JustBeachyNurse No district nurse, but I will jus send her into ED for further evaluation

HEEEEELP... ASAP
So I've seen this student about twice now. Yesterday afternoon she came in complaining of a stomach pain, like a knot feeling in her lower abdomen. I examined and everything felt and looked completely fine. So I gave her a TUMS tablet and sent her back to class. She came in again this morning with red puffy eyes and her teacher. Her teacher told me she is still complaining of the pain in her lower abdomen, then the teacher finally mentions re-occurring UTI in the patient! So I assume that is what it is but I couldn't take the temperature of the student orally. I'm having her lie down for now, and will take her temp axillary in about 30 mins. I'm about to refer her to the hospital because the group home she's in won't take her in to get checked. Oh, I forgot, this student has CP and cannot speak so she uses her tablet to converse with me. When I told her I will send her to the hospital she lit up brighter than the lights in my office. I called her teacher and asked about her bathroom trips and she told me she hasn't gone all morning, but was telling her teacher that she is starting to feel pain when she pees. I feel like the student just wants to be sent to the hospital because this jus isn't adding up. What should I do? I have a hard time telling her no because she is constantly saying we don't care about her and won't listen to her. Should I still refer her to the hospital? Btw, this has happened when I first started working (when I was so gullible to everything ) but that's another story too long to tell.. in the end, she wasn't actually sick, she was jus seeking some attention from pretty much everybody. &&&& her group home sucks cause their lazy and won't listen to their students. So whenever I call to have them take her to the hospital, they end up taking her to their nurses office and don't ever take her into the hospital.. blah I just need help on what I should do with this student..

High School Nurses
Thanks y'all! I'm really enjoying it! Students are starting to notice me Thanks for all the wonderful advice.. right now my bulletin is so blank, I only have one U of A wall decal up. Right now, I'm trying to set up vision and hearing screens for my ess students on Monday. I've had a couple "fakers" coming in, so I had to straighten that up. Almost got me, until I started reading through some of these threads. It's a lot of help and I am excited to get acquainted with many of you. High school isn't too bad since I graduated. Not many students come in on a daily basis, so I guess they understand a booboo from an injury

High School Nurses
How many of you are school nurses in a high school? Also, what kind of office rules do you have posted up for your students? Information as well, for the students to read.. I am enjoying my job so far. Nothing too serious yet, maybe jus a few sprains here and there due to the icy sidewalks.. I'm loving it :) Plenty of paperwork throughout the day though. I am still trying to make myself comfortable around the students and other staff members. What kind of presentation ideas do you present to the students?

Phone calls to home!
Oh gosh! So I got a real good laugh of the day story to share with ya'll. So today, a student comes in because she wants to get sent home. I wanted to speak with her mother before actually sending her home, because to me, her issue didn't seem that big of a deal. Anyway, I called the number she gave me to call and I must have dialed the wrong number because the call didn't go through. BUT I went to her student profile on the school website and pulled up the student's information, and called the number that was listed on there. I called once and just heard someone's voice and I asked if the mother was available , all I got was a "que? que? POR QUE?!!!" I had absolutely no clue what she was saying. because I am in a community of Navajos, I didn't expect anyone to answer in spanish. I looked through her file and nothing said anything about her being spanish. I have no experience nor have any knowledge of the Spanish language. So I thought I'd try the number again, maybe it was a misunderstanding, and certainly it was. This time we tried to converse and I had no way of communicating with her. Then I thought of some movies and instantly told the person on the other line "ummmmm.. SORRY BUT NO HABLA ESPANOL'' then she goes, "ohhhh!! yadadada" (had no idea what she said) so before she said anything else, I said I'm sorry ma'am but bye lol. I had another student lying on the cot and she tried to hold in her laugh. such embarrassment, but very funny :roflmao:

New School Nurse, need some advice on what daily activities yall do?
I work in the high school. Average student population runs about 600 students. Our senior school nurse ran through everything that I typically need so quickly.. I vivdly remember a few things like the documents that need to be filled out in case of an accident. What about your assessments? what do you usually do when a student comes in? I'm a CNA, so I have and know my boundaries. I'm so excited!!

New School Nurse, need some advice on what daily activities yall do?
Hi, I'm a new school nurse who recently got hired for the second semester of the school year. I am just wondering what you do on a daily basis? So far, since I started, I've only gotten 3 students total who have paid me a visit. Nothing too serious. My job is pretty much basic first aid and CPR. I'd just like to know what I should get done right away, how to decorate my office, what things I should look at, you know? I'd like to be a great school nurse and I just feel lost right now. Also, when I came into my office, there was NOTHING in here.. maybe a few bandaids, Tylenol, eye wash, and tums so I already put in my order for things I may need. Give me some good ideas to add some color to my dull office :) plus I'd like to meet some new friends who are also school nurses!
