We believe that it is unfair to count Hesi as part of our official grade because we often have not been exposed to the material in class. If you have this problem at your school, start your own.

At my school the HESI is worth 25% of every nursing course final grade...and honestly, most of my course exams seem like more of a "crap shoot" than the actual HESI lol. I wasn't too great at HESI's either, but after doing practice questions repeatedly and thoroughly reviewing and understanding each accompanying rationale I saw a great improvement (1,000+) on my HESI's. Saunder's Comprehensive Review is great for reviewing..you can register your book on the Evolve site (Evolve = HESI) and you'll have access to hundreds of review questions. You'll be much better off doing this than attempting to petition against your school policy.
anybody find independent studies that correlate NCLEX HESI. be neat to read.
I havent personally researched this, but one of my instructors from block 1 said that scoring over 850 on the HESI has a direct correlation with passing the NCLEX on the first try. However, not passing by 850 or higher did not equal failing. Just correlated to a lower 1st time NCLEX pass rate. However, I would also like to see an actual study about this as well to know if it was just fluff talk or truth. I am just dont have the drive to actually search it lol. I'm currently knee deep in antepartum and intrapartum studying.

thanks for the response.

somebody anybody? i'm surprised... all these post, but nobody bothered to look this up. i searched and cannot find anything except a study done over 10 years ago.
Wait, you are lecturing others on not looking research you know doesn't exist? Both HESI and ATI websites should have links to the research endorsing their use. Using the references and footnotes attached to those is where I would start.
They don't even have to go far...Google is the best friend:
What I found from Google; the abstract of a recent study in 2013; if you want to expound you must pay:
Predicting NCLEX-RN Success With the HESI Exit Exam: Eighth Validity Study
What does the disclosure statement mean in some of those? Are the people who conducted/reviewed connected to HESI/Elsevier?
Also, I am not trying to be combative here. I am all for the case studies and remediation; however, incorporating points does nothing but impede the chances of a struggling student to sit for boards, UNLESS it is extra credit.†Though from a business perspective, it makes perfect sense… As somebody stated above with their accreditation, funding, etc… being in jeopardy.
My cohort average GPA was 3.60, pre-enrollment. So, it would be somewhat safe to assume we were not all idiots. I say jokingly; though, I was surprised at times. Interestingly enough, at the end of the program, only half the students made the minimum score of +850. If it were up to me, I would suggest a program overhaul to directly address the passing rate. There's a disconnect somewhere. But who am I.
I scored a 500 on the exit and went on to pass the NCLEX in a single try.
OP needs to find another program, or start studying now.

Aw, that's nothin' :)
I was once chastised (severely, mind you) for "picking and choosing which posts to respond to"....and on a forum set up for assistance. Yep, imagine my surprise at being told I was expected to respond to EVERY post requesting help, LOL, as though I had to earn my keep somehow! I think sometimes 'regulars' here are confused with Paid Support Staff

I just wanted to say that I love your profile pick or avatar or whatever its called!!
Kfbris, the HESI prepares you for the NCLEX, which, I promise, you will have question on that were not covered in school. It's intentional. How will you respond to a situation when you don't know what to do? Will you petition them when you don't get licensed? Nursing school sucks. And then you graduate. You're almost there!

I just want to clarify that students are not permitted to graduate from my program until they either 1) pass the HESI exit exam with a score of 850 or higher or 2) take it 3 times, with remediation between each try. I looked up my school's NCLEX-RN 1st time pass rates for 2010-2013, and in all of those years, our rate was higher than the 2 4-year nursing schools in my town. No one blows off our HESI tests because they know they can't graduate on time without passing the final test. We also would not be allowed to go to the next class if we missed the HESI test for the previous one. My school does not mess around. We do NOT miss class unless we are DYING, and even then we can't make up any quizzes that we miss!! LOL
