We believe that it is unfair to count Hesi as part of our official grade because we often have not been exposed to the material in class. If you have this problem at your school, start your own.

I do believe in standardized testing however, with the hesi, some programs make you take one every semester. Even if you do well in the class and but not on the test, the college can kick you out of the program. You may have the chance to reapply but that is a gamble if youre in or out, extra time and money spent. YOU CAN STILL PASS THE NCLEX without taking a hesi! I dont believe the test should count as a grade but maybe an opportunity for the student to go back over material that they missed on the test. Use it as practice. I don't believe it is fair for a student to fail a class due to one test that they may not have been exposed to the material.
This post is over three years old, so the OP's situation has more than likely resolved itself. That being said, there will be material on the NCLEX that students have not been exposed to and no one is going to get sympathy if they complain the NCLEX was unfair because they weren't taught everything that was asked. HESI, like NCLEX, tests one's ability to comprehend a question, critically think, and choose the best answer. Often it is not necessary for the student to have learned every detail in order to answer the question correctly. In fact, some information is included as a red herring to distract the test-taker. Many students get hung up on the fact that they don't know the specific drug or disease process when it doesn't really matter. They don't see the forest through the trees, so to speak, and that skill is essential to both passing NCLEX and nursing practice.
