We believe that it is unfair to count Hesi as part of our official grade because we often have not been exposed to the material in class. If you have this problem at your school, start your own.

Would you sign a petition not to take SATs because there were vocabulary words in it that you never heard?
Your passion is misplaced. You have other choices to make, as aspiring professionals. One is to read more books than you're assigned-- yes, I know, more work. Another is to ask your faculty to increase lecture, lab, and clinical time for you. Darn, there's that pesky "more work" thing.

Completely agree. I think this petition is absolutely absurd.
SATs are not part of your official grade. My GPA is 3.823. Nice try.
That is exactly it!

i really feel for those that are in programs that require a MINIMUM to move forward, even graduate. i FAILED EVERY SINGLE HESI exam and still managed to pass the NCLEX-RN in 75 questions. all the HESI did was ruin my nursing school GPA. i believe that some nursing programs only breed test takers as opposed to competent/skilled nurses. i understand the book knowledge required for critical thinkingâ€/nursing judgment scenarios… but the how sad is it that my school failed to find us a clinical placement until mid/end of the semester, but made damn sure we took the EXIT HESI twice. i sympathize with you. but it is what it is... i had to do it. cowboy up.
PS: to the elitists in here, i would gotten a 4.0. 89.9% is still a B. thanks HESI.
The problem is that all of the extra books are read. The test is still a crap shoot. It should not be used as a final exam for classes. It isn't that we don't want to take the test. We just don't want it on our official grade.

It really doesn't honestly matter whether I agree or disagree with you. I seriously doubt an online petition from complete strangers on the internet will have any impact on the school's decision. I think you are spinning your wheels and burning energy. My school has focus groups and solicits feedback from our students. If you want to change things add these comments in your course evals and sure respectfully write your feedback to the school's program director.

Did you check into the requirements before signing up for this school? They must have informed you early on in your sojourn there of their policies on HESI exams. If you didn't like it, you have the option of leaving that program and finding a school with policies you prefer.

I find this petition ridiculous. The school will not take seriously the signatures of random internet strangers who do not attend their program. You could better spend your time trying to leave feedback in your evals and taking this up with the school directly. The HESI is not info you never learned. And if it is then your school failed you anyway. One of my instructors is a HESI review course instructor on the side. She said that the HESI is intentionally made to be harder than the NCLEX so students are better prepared to use more critical thinking and application then may be required for their program exams. It is also a national test like the NCLEX. It can be personalized for material reviewed in class per instructor request, but the types of questions are standard across the board. Schools use it because there is a direct correlation between scoring over 850 and passing the NCLEX on the first try. If you fail does this mean you will fail NCLEX? No. But you will be better prepared to take the NCLEX.
I feel eel for the students who are required to pass this test to matriculate, or when it is worth a large percent of their grade. I am not good at the HESI and would probably do poorly in a program like that. My program only makes it worth 5% of the final grade for each semester and if you don't pass by 4th semester you are heavily encouraged to take the HESI 3 day NCLEX review course that is included in the tuition.
I don't think this test should be a major portion of a students grade either. But a petition will not get you anywhere unless it is signed by only current students or alumni of your program.

Good luck with trying to resolve the HESI issue!! I know of people who were trying to petition against the HESI back in the year 06/07 and it's 2015 now! Some schools integrate HESI within the coursework and use them as entrance and exit exams. We were told to buy a review book and given an online program which was self initiated. So it was on us if we completed the required lessons that were in our syllabus. It was part of my curriculum and was counted as a grade and it was used as an exit exam. I knew this prior going into the program. I had 3 attempts to pass before graduation and I didn't pass. But I didn't give up. I read my review book from front to end and passed. I had to learn the hard way schools are only going to cover so much the other part of covering info and going the extra mile has got to come from you!! My brother always tells me nobody owes you anything!! So I did what I had to do, took responsibility and covered my material like I should have done from the start. I wanted to blame the school and I felt like I couldn't get the required score of 900 but I ended up getting a 971, got my degree took boards and passed :)
But of course they can well make a difference in whether you get into the school of your choice or not. You may have had some different classmates had it not been for those vocab words, or a random geometry formula, or some historical fact ... or the inability to make and support a proposition.
You came here for an opinion from informed professionals, right? You're getting them. You can argue, but I doubt you'll change our minds with little "back atchas" and replies for which we can't tell the stimulus. (Hint: You can use the QUOTE feature to help us out.)
Is that the best you've got? Not convinced yet.
