Herzing PMHNP

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone, I will be starting the new PMHNP program at Herzing University in September. Trying to see if there is anyone else that will be starting the program so that we can connect. Since it's a new program, there is no topic about this specialty and maybe this can provide opportunity for potential students to discuss.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many days of clinicals a week is needed to reach the hours required to graduate? Asking because I work 3 12s Wed, thurs, Friday. I feel like it would be hard finding preceptors on the weekends.

Just like Denise mentioned, it depends on the number of clinical hours required. Each clinical course runs 8 weeks with the exception of the final clinical which is 16weeks for 180hrs. If u divide the clinical hours needed by 8 weeks, u will see that a 45hrs clinical course can by completed by attending one day (8hrs) a week.  Most of them are 90hrs clinical and you’ll most likely attend twice a week. It’s doable with your work schedule.

Hello Everyone,

I will be joining this March 8th, 2021 (PMHNP post master's certificate program). I am scheduled to take advanced patho and advanced pharma together at the same time. I work part time...are those 2 doable at the same time? Is it going to be crazy? I am totally OK with Bs but do not want to be crazy stressed (just moved so my batteries are a bit low). How many hours a week did you devote to each of these classes? Thank you and all the best on your journey.

So excited about finally starting soon. I was about to go with Walden but they are still not accredited for their post masters.

Hello everyone! I started the post-masters certificate for PMHNP program this past September at Herzing. So far it has been an amazing experience. I just got done with advanced pathophysiology about 2 weeks ago and made an A in the class. Currently, I am in advanced pharmacology.

I know many prospective students are wondering what these classes are like. Advanced pathophysiology was a 8 week long class, we had one discussion due every week on Wednesday, 2 responses to other's discussion post due every Sunday, a quiz due every Sunday, and had two papers in the class. As far as advanced pharmacology, it's more of a workload compared to advanced pathophysiology. We have two discussions due each week (one on Wednesday and one on Friday) with two responses for each discussion (so that is 4 discussion responses total per week all due by Sunday), have a quiz due every Sunday, and have an "assignment" due every Sunday (these assignments are either online "lab" or papers).

I do not know much about rest of the classes. But if any past students know what kind of work is given in advanced health assessment, clinical decision-making, roles of NP and the clinical, please feel free to post it on here. I know we are the first PMHNP cohort so we won't know much about the PMHNP clinical, but I'm sure it is a similar workload as the FNP clinicals.

Hey @Themollylama ! When I initially applied to Herzing, I saw that they were advertising that the program can be done in 20 months, however, my advisor was sooo stuck on how it can only be completed in 24 months. I asked her if I am able to double up on classes since I am able to quit my job and just focus on school full-time, however she said it was impossible. Who was your advisor that said that the 3rd and 5th semester can be combined? I would love to complete this program in 20 months if possible! I even asked them if I can combine semester 4 and 5 together since it will be possible for me to get 180 hours in 16 weeks, but she said that wouldn't be possible since semester 4 builds on semester 5.

Curious to know what textbooks are used for advanced pharmacology and advanced patho.  Thank you in advance! Stephanie

Thank you! You start in March, correct? Are you still taking both Advanced Pathophysiology and Advanced Pharmacology?

Yes, starting next week amd taking both patho and pharma together.

Hello, I'm currently enrolled at Herzing's PMHNP online program. I will be starting advanced pharmacology March 8. Does anyone have any feedback on this class?

I am starting it on March 8th as well. My professor is Wilson. I heard its 2 discussion post s, 4 replies total, 1 paper and test each week.

Nice class. Lots of readings, few simulations on shadow health, and challenging quizzes.

There are 2 papers in advanced pharmacology, weekly quiz, 2 case studies, 2 shadow health assignments, and 2 discussions most weeks.
