Hello everyone, I will be starting the new PMHNP program at Herzing University in September. Trying to see if there is anyone else that will be starting the program so that we can connect. Since it's a new program, there is no topic about this specialty and maybe this can provide opportunity for potential students to discuss.

Yep I will be starting in September as well. I am anxious, yet excited to get back in the classroom.

Great. Do you have your schedule yet? If you do, what classes will you be taking? I am really excited about getting this started. I just don't know how to go about booking preceptors.
No I don't have my schedule yet. My transcripts and license juat got verified and pending my background check will start September 8th.
From working in psych the past 5 years, I thinking finding a preceptor won't be too difficult. My advisor also said I can precept with a Psych NP where I work as long as it isn't during my scheduled work hours. So that's a positive.

Hi guys I am currently researching PMHNP online programs. I just discovered Herzing today. Can you give me any in site on the program? The website says that they guarantee clinical placement and that it con be complete in 24mo. Is this actually true? I have read the FNP threads for Herzing and it's been said that you have to find your on preceptor or sit out semesters until you do. I have a host of other online and hybrid programs I am considering, Herzing just sounds like the best option at the moment.
Many schools leave students with the responsibility of finding their own preceptors and this is not different. I know the website says they pledge clinical placement, but I believe they come in when students are unable to fine one. Personally, I like the curriculum and the included 16 weeks internship. The school has grown rapidly over the past few years and many things are happening for them in terms of recognition and academic improvement. Majority of the faculty has doctoral degree, it is brick and mortar and non-profit. I have heard great things about the FNP program and I love that they provide lecture videos.
Darn. I was so hopeful about the clinical placement. Well I have been looking at so many programs I barely know what to do. How are the classes as far as difficulty? Are the professors readily available?

We haven’t started yet. We are going to be the inaugural class for the PMHNP program because it’s new and starting in September. Like I said, I’ve heard great things about the FNP track and I hope this will be the same. My communication with them has been smooth, they provide clear instructions, and the online platform is easy to navigate. They have already uploaded clinical forms and vital informations. So far, I see they are very organized.

Does anyone know if they take students in California? The Herzing FNP thread said they do not and I was curious why that might be?

Yes, I just got off the phone with them today, and they just got approved to take California students. However, I would check with the California BON to make sure this is accurate.
I'm currently in the process of completing my application for the Sept 8. term. I'm curious as to how much is this program. I have not spoken with financial aid department yet, as they are waiting on my background check to clear. I know they said 38k, but that was before any grants they are offering at the moment. Anyone have any insight?

If you do full-time curriculum it is 24-months. My advisor said in your 3rd and 5th semester you can possibly do them together because you only have one clinical in each of those semesters. She said you would have to get approval and show that you are capable of doing so before they let you. Such as - good grades, work schedule flexibility, on-time assignments, etc. and potentially knock off a semester.
