  1. Congrats on your acceptance ? I know the reviews can make you second-guess, so I'll just give you the real, structural info so you can decide what fits you best. STU: • 500 total clinical hours spread across 4 clinical courses • Toward the end of the program, you're required to take a standardized exam (APEA or 3P) • You must score 80 or higher • You get two attempts — if you don't meet the benchmark, you fail the program • They've also become stricter with clinical tracking and verification (check-in/check-out, location confirmation) Other programs for comparison: • Herzing (FNP): About 16 months, quizzes are not proctored, requires a 3P exam with a minimum score and limited attempts. Around 5 clinical rotations, with some populations combined (peds/women's health). • Walden: Often quicker, but they've become more strict with clinical approvals and documentation. Their clinical system is challenging for some students. • Wilkes: Fewer rotations with larger blocks of clinical hours (e.g., ~250 hours at a time). They allow telehealth hours, are generally less strict, but take more academic breaks/holidays. No program is perfect, they all have tradeoffs. It really comes down to how much structure you want, how independent you are with finding clinical sites, and how you feel about standardized exit exams. 2. Hello all, As a graduate of STU MSN PMHNP program it is extremely tough but not impossible. I did it while travel nursing, pregnant, took a semester off, and even failed a course. How've a great friend of mine was not add successful and failed our of the program their very last class of the program after all clinical hours were completed and only received a general MSN after fighting tooth and nail. I say all of this to say each program has its set backs and no one program is perfect. Just get in and press on. 3. How has the program been thus far? I'm trongly considering this option. Any insight you can share would be most appreciated.
  4. Hello all. Just accepted into the PMHNP program at St. Thomas starting 5/15/21. I am also in the FB group. Any tips, guidance, recommendations for myself? I am good at self guided study but I am always open to info from those who have experienced the program. Thank you in advance.
  5. I was surprised about it too. I guess the shortage of preceptors is worst than the shortage of nursing instructors. I'm not sure how long the trend of paying for preceptors has been going on. I've heard of people paying up to $2k a semester for them. There's forums and fb groups with leads on preceptors. Oh does Capella help at all with the process of finding a preceptor?
  6. OK that is wonderful to know. I'm going to look for that video. This is so motivating. 2021 here I come. For your practicum do you need a preceptor? I have colleagues that are paying for preceptors. They are both in a NP programs.
  7. Oh wow. That is very unfortunate. Have you since completed the program? Or are you still enrolled? Which particular path did you choose?
  8. Londonflo, I'm sure your comments were only meant as educational and uplifting to nurses who are trying not only to further their education, but educate the next wave of nurses amid this covid mess. Thank you.
  9. Wow. Do you think the MSN in Edu will be able to be completed in such a short time also? Asking for myself.
  10. I am on this thread because I want to become a PMHNP. However, my VA is only paying for leadership and education MSNs. I figured I can do the MSN in Edu and go back and pay ou of pocket (or get a loan) for my post master's certificate to become a PMHNP. I had already chose Frontier University as my PMHNP school... Now I'm looking for a short program (1 year or less) for the MSN in Edu. I will say I am interested in teaching and precepting is my thing. So I'm not just jumping on this bandwagon without my heart in it. I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. With this covid mess we need more nursing instructors. We also need me tal health providers. I'm sure I can do both. With all that said I also, by 50, hope to attain my DNP.
  11. I am between Herzing and Frontier. Another school I have also considered is MCPS. All of these programs are roughly 2 years in length and have similar clinical requirements. The biggest difference is price for me. I would like others input on their comparisons of these programs. Hoping to apply asap and start in the Spring. Good luck to all. Keitta
  12. Darn. I was so hopeful about the clinical placement. Well I have been looking at so many programs I barely know what to do. How are the classes as far as difficulty? Are the professors readily available?
  13. Hi guys I am currently researching PMHNP online programs. I just discovered Herzing today. Can you give me any in site on the program? The website says that they guarantee clinical placement and that it con be complete in 24mo. Is this actually true? I have read the FNP threads for Herzing and it's been said that you have to find your on preceptor or sit out semesters until you do. I have a host of other online and hybrid programs I am considering, Herzing just sounds like the best option at the moment.
