Here is a crazy question

Published

Are you older students using bookbags or back packs for school? You know I'm just about 30 and I just keep thinking do thirty year old students wear bookbags? Will it hurt my back, will I look like I'm trying to be 19 again. I don't have a oppinion one way or the other, just wondering. LOL is this a crazy question or what?

Not crazy at all. I'm 26 and I use a book bag but, a back pack is fine too probably even better cause the book bag kills my shoulder after a while.

It's funny.. growing up in Montana, I always called it a backpack, but when I moved to NC, backpack and bookbag were used interchangeably. Anyway... I'm 34 and have used a messenger bag, backpack, rolling bookbag, and totebag just depending on how much I had to carry and my mood. lol

40 in Oct. & gotta use the rolling bag. I love it! All the cool nursing students use them at my cc:cool:

I'm 28 and I use a backpack. In fact I bring it with me to work every day too, because it's so much easier than a purse because I carry my school books, lunch, iPod, water bottle, and wallet in one nice convenient place :)

I'm tired of bookbags. I've been thinking about getting a stylish messenger bag or tote bag.

i'm 30 will be 31 next month and i use a backpack. i think that they are better because you can either use them on one shoulder or both. i don't think using a backpack makes you look like your trying to be 19 again. i think with us older ladies a backpack is better on your shoulders and back.

Ok, maybe I'm just naive, stupid or geeky but I have a backpack with wheels. I carted around those heavy books back and forth for 1 week and said Heck with this!! I don't care what I look like, I dont care if I'm cool or not, thats not what i'm in school for. My back doesn't hurt and I'm not lugging 50 pounds on my shoulders. backpacks with wheels are the bomb!!

I used a rolling backpack when I was pregnant. I was 19 and didn't care what I looked like.

I take online courses but I have a laptop backpack for when I travel. It holds a TON of stuff. When I take my books to work, I use a totebag. I usually only carry one book with me so it doesn't weigh it down too much. Security always comments on how heavy my bag is, I laugh and say "And that isn't even all of my books."

I have a backpack but don't use it. I have only one class a semester at the school (all others online), so I just carry my books. Last semester I took A&PI and didn't even need the book. Just carried my notes.

for me it all depends on the amount of books i need to carry for the day. i have a rolling bag that i use for days that i have multiple classes and textbooks that must be hauled. also used if i have to take my laptop with books because it is just too heavy for a sling, back pack or tote.

i also have a backpack (2 depending on day) that i would use when i only had one class but had to carry textbooks and lab books.

when i had my art class i carried a messenger bag to hold my drawing pad and supplies.

for my last summer class i didn't have to carry a text book so i would just put my binder in my purse. yes, i have a large purse. i carry a large calendar and other stuff needed for school in it (drink, snacks, etc), so it made sense just to get a large purse instead of juggling.

i also use a couple of those free-bee clinique make up bags for my pens, highlighters, post-its, etc.

for me it was less about looking cool than saving my back, those textbooks can cause all sorts of back/shoulder pains. :sasq:

you should not want to kill people at the end of the day because you are frustrated your back and/or shoulder(s) feel like they are going to fall off.

:smackingf

On the advice of my physical therapist, I used a backpack to distribute the load evenly. I have problems with my sacroiliac joint.

She told me if I *were* to use a roller bag, to walk with the bag fairly close to my body. She said when people drag the bag behind them, one side of their body can be pulled way out of alignment. I've watched people using roller bags and I agree with her that a lot of people are being tugged into weird positions by allowing the roller bag to trail behind them. Watch how their arm gets all twisted....

P.S. I am 50 years old.

I have two bags. I have a really good Jansport Backpack which I love. I also have a shoulder tote which I use. It depends on my mood and how much junk I need to bring to class that particular day.

I have in the past used a rolling backpack and have every intention of using one again once I get into NS.

I also have a messenger type Laptop bag that is only for my laptop/power cord and a few folders, but it is really well cushioned so I trust lugging m y laptop in there vs some of the laptop backpacks I have seen which do not have much cushioning IMO.
