Ok just an update... I took my evaluation which I ended up having to pay 750 to the Dr. I received my letter from him about a week ago saying that he found no cause for me to have any stipulations on my license and he believed I could be a nurse without any impairments. How long will it take the nursing board now? I got accepted into clinicals and I have to have all my requirements met by May 31.

Hi I am new to this website.

I am an RN-BSN for only 4yrs now and I have been sent a required chemical dependency evaluation by the BON. I live in Ft. Worth, Texas and am freaked out by some of the comments I saw on another thread about the price being $1500 and they gave her a hair test. Also I waited last minute, and I haven't even chosen an evaluator yet and it's due in 4 days! I thought no biggie, I would just choose from the Board approved list and overnight it, but then I saw a nurse say the most important advice she had was to NOT USE ANYONE FROM THE BOARD APPROVED LIST THEY SEND YOU, because of money and what not, she felt it was very biased but to also get an attorney to back you up and help you find an evaluator that meets requirements.

Well, I dont have time or money for that, I'm not employed right now because I lost my 4yr job at Baylor for this same thing I believe. I also was cleared through a Peer Review before I was fired so someone broke HIPPA to send Board this info. I wanted to ask CALLAHAN, RN if she could remember if her evaluator was *******? SHe is not on the list, but I saw your post and searched for RN, LPC in Dallas and only 2 came up. You made it sound very easy, unlike everyone else.

Did they take a hair test? How long ago was your eval? I would appreciate any feedback, esp since I'm out of time. I know I can pass these tests they give, but I can't afford $1500 and it makes me want to give up, but I worked myself through college to be a nurse and I love what I do! I don't know what else I would do if something happened. It says if they do not receive your info in time, it's seen as a refusal and then an administrative hearing will be held...Does anyone know what that means, I'm sure it doesn't look good to refuse because it looks like you're guilty, but that's not the case here.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to write so much, but I'm so scared and feel like no matter what I do, something bad will happen to me because I already had to go thru a Peer Review for this, which was unanimously found NOT to be reported to Board...then I lost my job couple months later for same thing. Someone was/is out to get me and I don't know why. I was such a good nurse, but worked with all women and I wanted nothing to do with their high school, gossiping, politic Behavior!

PLEASE HELP ME, I'LL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL!

Thank you,

Lauren, RN

So are you saying Lauren that you are not an alcoholic/addict? Having issues twice would make me think that you are. Also thinking that someone that is out to get you is typical of the denial that all of us go through at some point.

I am not familiar with the way the BON works in Texas, but regardless, your sobriety has to come first. I wish you luck and know that we are all here for you.

having had more experience with tx.bon, than anyone should want to have :roflmao:, their purpose is to protect the public first, consequence of action that they may, or do take, all be it appear strict and tuff, can be a very therapeutic journey to acquire, maintain recovery and be a very ethical, safe, responsible nurse......

i hope you get to be evaluated in time, this isnt like filing your income tax late, there are more serious consequences.....

you can fine the following information at the texas board of nursing site:

not completing evaluation, is indeed often viewed as refusal guilty........there is no evidence to the opposite....

administrative actions can be made with you or without you, often times they result in displinary actions as probation, suspension, revocation, fines, req remedial education, monitoring etc.

Hey Lashley, I will gladly give you her info. You don't have enough posts to send you a PM, so you will have to give me your email address. I won't post the counselor's info here... I'm sure you understand.

Oh, and by the way, sometimes people are really out to get you. It can be seen as an easy excuse, but it does happen.

Ok. Shouldn't cost more than a few hundred. Definitely get one that's not referred by the board, they only have to be licensed. They cannot dictate who you see. Also, don't make the mistake I did and not get an attorney. Don't sign any order without fighting it. Get a loan, find someone to help. However, if you really have an issue this may be a blessing. Either way, stay informed and don't sign the order, get an independent eval. Try to get an atty. most will accept payment plans and many board orders can be over turned by the state office of administrative hearings. Have your day in court and don't let the board bully you. Keep us updated.

Hello!! I know this thread is a little old. Callahan, I was wondering if you could please email me the evaluator you went to?! My email is [email protected]. Did anybody else on this thread go to a evaluator who was NOT on the board approved list?! Any recommendations would be great! I want to stay away from the board-approved psychologists unless I hear first hand they are not biased.

Hi!! Her name is Wendy (won't post last name) and she's in Dallas. Affordable and completely unbiased. She's on (or was was a year ago) the BON approved list. She found that I don't have a chemical dependency bc I don't.. If you do, that's a different story. Good luck! If you have any other questions for me, please feel free to ask!

Wow, my BON chose my evaluator for me. They did not give me the option to choose anyone else, and the evaluator they gave me was 7 hours away and the evaluation cost $3000!
