Help, new rn can't get hired

Published

I graduated in August of 2008 and opted not to get my temp. permit because I was going to wait to get my license after my son was born. I passed the NCLEX in Feb. of 2009 and can't find a job anywhere. No one will hire a new RN with no experience!!!!! I'm not being picky......will take any shift available, but no one is interested..........must have atleast 1 year experience. I've applied everywhere and have heard nothing. However, I am seeing many openings for new grads. Should I apply to these positions although technically I'm an RN and not a brand new grad? I need the experience. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advanced. :D

What area of the country are you in?

In my organization, we consider anyone with less than 12 months of experience a "new grad" no matter how long they have been out of school. I think you are eligible for those positions.

If you never practice as an RN you are still new. You are a new grad right? so why would you look to apply for experience positions? Apply to many New grad positions because they will give you the orientation you need.

Make sure you write a cover letter and have a resume clear to the point. The cover letter I must say is very important because if it doesn't look good then they don't even bother looking at your resume. If you need any more info PM me. Good luck

Thanx for breaking it down, I wasn't sure if the "Nursing Graduate" positions only applied to those nearing graduation and will practice with a temp. permit or those recently graduated within the last 6 months. Wasn't exactly sure what consituted a "New Grad". I did however apply to 2 nursing graduate positions last night and received 2 responses today after posting:D We'll see how it goes.

What's a temporary permit? Is that only in certain states?
