Help, am I doomed to LPN..are there any other choices??

I have 10 yrs of college! with a 2yr degree pre nursing... lots of mistakes/ business /computers wasnt for me and im very hard headed/ thats what all that is about.
My overall gpa is 2.1 , my pre nursing course work is 3.8 (finally found what i was suppose to be doing)
Im in a LPN program right now and doing very well.
I have applied to lots of schools and NONE NONE will take me for the RN program NOT BECause of my nursing course work but because I have a low OVERAll GPA
A counslor and I went over what it would take to raise my GPA up to the 2.5 or 2.7 requirements and I have to take over 100 classes with an A average in each class..(because of how they calculate gpa with over all hours and I Have to many hours already)
I wish I could just forget that I had ANY college.. and start over..but they wont let me... I have to report every college Iv been to.
OK so my question is AM I doomed to just be an LPN..
Does anyone know of programs that I DONT need an OVERall GPA for RN
Or any other suggestions to move on into RN program...
I dont want to be an LPN.. for long anyway.
HAS anyone else suffered with this???

I am "just an LPN" and a darn good nurse at that. I am not doomed.

I hope your situation works out, but perhaps try to word your posts with a bit more class and couth.

You could start over from scratch, never mentioning the past. But that comes with the risk of being found out. If you decide to go this route, do not deal with the financial aid office as that is how people usually get caught at it.

Are you sure that all the schools in your area only accept overall GPA? Are you looking at LPN-to-RN programs (as opposed to straight ADN/RN programs)? I think some schools only care about GPA in pre-req coursework or within the last five years and don't look at the rest. Good luck!

Uhm, you aren't EVEN an LPN. You are student PN. Big difference.

So the better question is: will you even graduate the nursing programme and be able to pass your license exam????

The wording of your post is extremely offensive. Especially when it is addressed to people who have already succeeded in acheiving their goal when you have not. They've managed to focus themselves with clarity, finish what they started and treat everyone's contribution to the healthcare team with respect.

If the tone of your post is caused by a genuine naivete- you have some work to do on your interpersonal skills.

Wow so many sensative people. Sorry about "offending" the wording wasnt perfect but neither is anyone that cant overlook and not become offended so easily.. wonder what kind of nurses they are.

As far as offending with doomed to be LPN.. Think about it

I AM going to be an LPN...so putting myself down just doesnt create logic here.

If I wanted to offend I would have chosen much harsher choice words for that.

Obviously no one that commented has an answer to the situation I presented, I imagine because everyone that did comment had a perfect life.

So while I appreciate all comments to the post.. If you are happy where you are at in your station as an LPN then wonderful. Thats not where I want to be stationed for the rest of my life. I would like to move onward.

And as I have learned from my not so perfect life.. preplanning and vision is a larger part of how to become successful in what you would like to achieve.

I read your comment here and I ddi not know of what you read eralier but it sounds like your offended and in turn u sound offensive...relax...no one is perfect ok? Some people can not put themselves in your shoes or will not for one reason or another...i was hoping to hear somehting incouraging since I am relatively new on this site and a LPN student..And my life how shall i put it ..by the grace of God I have survived me and my 6 sons...most would never have survived in my shoes and i continue to have huge bumps in the road ...but i press on ...this semester being my last then i will try to move out of these circumstances if only slight...You must press on as well...dont shoot your dreams just be realistic and live with what you got to the fullest as if it was your last day. Not knowing your circumstances does nbot phase me..youtr discouragement however made me take note...you will be ok..maybe your looking in the wrong place for your answers!

I read the earlier posts...I understand your feelings somewhat...but you need to focus on school now and passing...some areas like mine dropped all the RN waitlisters and said they need all co and prerequisites and further more would prefer if they all had at least one yr. as a LPN before even going back on a waitlist status!!! :eek:

I am a single mother with two emotionally challenged kids ..one has NVLD and the schools I am fighting now to get help for him...i held a B despite my NVLD child destroying m,y house while I studied...did i mention>>>I AM SINGLE...if i can do this you can do this..you are panicking...do what you need to do to put your GPA up but in the mean time...work on the LPN schooling...focus...you have to focus...these days more than ever you need to focus ...we all do:)Cheer up and hey LPN isnt that bad I would think they help everyone..the Rns ...the CNAs...the DRs...the EMTs etc...and you dont have too have alll the responsibility on your shoulders...you can get your feet wet before you jump into RN and get those grades up while you wait..sooo chiiiiiillll!! :nurse:

From what I've bolded, you've deduced that I am:

Overly sensitive

Easily offended

Question the type of nurse I am and

Have a perfect life

I don't have any advice for you, except to perhaps take a few courses on writing, ethics and tact...oh too bad there isn't such a course for that.

Yes, I have. The same thing happend to me. I have earned over 100 credits in college.
