Help! Bought an online test bank not sure what to do!

A student in my class bought an online test bank and shared it with the entire class, well little did we know that when we took our test on Monday that it was exactly the same! Could we get kicked out of nursing school for this????

19 other students had it as well!!

My grades have been consistent and I have never had an infraction before. I just hope that this appeal will go through and I'll get another chance. I know now not to ever use anything outside of the classroom like this without permission again.

I would appeal with anything and everything I could think of that is relavent. Even state why you delayed. Is there anyone on here that has been through a successful appeal that could offer some advice?

This is just terrible. On one hand, I feel you should be given another chance based on making a mistake and not knowing it was the instructor version. But I also can see how the school might think that you are either lying to try to get back in, or waited too long because you were debating whether to tell. I agree with a few others who think someone(or maybe multiple other students) came forward that day after the test and were punished less severely.

Our school takes cheating very seriously to the point that if something like this happened and it was not brought up immediately, then you would fail, and never be readmitted and have zero chance at appeal. Our handbook even states we cannot use test banks of any kind. Only published, hard copy, NCLEX study books. Anything else is considered cheating. They have multiple instructors tour around the classroom during exams to monitor students for cheating. It makes it intense, but I guess very recently there was a lot of cheating in the class. The instructors now also use test banks, but reword the questions and answers so they are similar but no the same.

GL in your appeal. It sounds like an honest mistake that I'm sure you will never repeat. If the appeal gets denied at least try your darndest to get the academic dishonesty removed from your record. It will hinder you from getting into other schools, much less nursing programs.

I have a question: the title of your post states "bought an online test bank". Does this mean you paid the student who had the original for a copy? Do you think the student who originally obtained the copy told the administration that everyone knew it was a test bank? That might have led to the decision, as well.

And if I were faculty involved in the situation, I wouldn't buy it. The websites that sell you research papers (to turn in as your own work) also have blurbs on the sites that make it sound like this is some legitimate educational service they are offering, but everyone knows the truth -- they are facilitating students cheating by selling them pre-written papers on the topic of their choice. This seems no different to me. While the OP may have sincerely not initially realized what was going on, I'm pretty sure the student who originally purchased the test bank probably knew what s/he was doing. Anyone who didn't speak up at the moment that s/he recognized the questions on the test were verbatim from the "study materials" doesn't really have a defense, IMO.

As a college student fresh out of high school (there were 64 I believe admitted to our class with 6 being true out of high school freshman) I can tell you that until this post I had never heard of test bank questions; had no idea they existed, you could purchase them, what they were, whatever. Until the previous post, also had no idea you could buy research papers. Live and learn.
