  1. If a hotel is guaranteed to have that room rented, they will make allowances on check in/check out, rate, amenities. Ask. The guarantee that the room will be occupied on these days for this many months is a big incentive.
  2. Next time somebody makes that statement, ask them what they are referring to. The question itself may be viewed as being a "strong personality" but honestly, how are you to determine if something needs fixed and then how to fix it if no one will give examples. Just ask what they are talking about.
  3. I would look for a refresher course, take NCLEX, pass and be on your way in your career as an RN in the United States.
  4. Short simple. I was on my break. I chose to nap during my break. I woke up and successfully worked the remainder of my shift.
  5. Never been a participant in a strike but have seen some at another hospital in our area. Some of the nurses crossed the picket line. They also brought in agency nurses. In the end, there were concessions on both sides, no OMG concessions on either side. Always wondered why they could not come to an agreement before the strike.
  6. Make more money per hour, 30 hours a week is considered full-time and am entitled to full-time benefits, can choose to work 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts. If I choose to pick up an extra shift other than what I am scheduled, I get an extra $15 per hour for that shift. Get to know my patients. Most patients are elderly and I like them!
  7. 26 is the age. Something is not right. Now, they could have some kind of company regulation that requires your mother to pay for dependent coverage at age 21. She needs to look into the company policy for you.
  8. It happens. I know someone who failed a nursing class, went on to graduate with associates, bachelors, worked for 2.5 years, applied to four NP schools, was accepted at 3 (Duquesne, Simmons, Drexel, was not accepted at Georgetown) and will start this fall. You will never know unless you try.
  9. I wonder if somewhere in the employment papers it states orientation is 40 hours per week.
  10. Maybe you need to type up a list of duties for an NP and pass it around. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe some of them at least really don't understand the role of NP.
  11. The passed performance evaluation should help you in your unemployment case. If they oppose it, when you have your hearing that may get you the information you are after regarding why you were terminated.
  12. They are setting things up to give you the choice of being fired or resigning your position. If you believe this to be true, I would immediately write a very nice letter to anyone that was part of the meeting and state that you felt threatened by those in the meeting that have authority over your continued employment at the facility, and in fact bullied by the conversation, are experiencing anxiety having to work with nurses that obviously perceive you in a way that is counter to your numerous positive evaluations, blah, blah, blah. Hit it hard. Make sure the email goes to all involved. I hate to play this game, but they are playing with your livelihood and it is not a nice thing to do.
  13. $29,000 is not bad.

Never refuse a pre-employment drug test. Respectfully decline the job offer. And just stop with the marijuana. Between pre-employment, random, just cause, the ramifications if caught are just not worth it.
  15. Having no experience in L&D, the questions you asked were spot on! Good luck.
