Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

I've been off and on healthy this vacation. Having lots of fruits and veggies, but some junk too like ice cream. Tonight we're going out for pizza!

Hi everyone,

Noticed the thread was moved. Thought it was gone for a minute but thank goodness for the search button.....

Have lots to catch on. I am doing great myself and still working on improving whatever I can each day. Some days I fall off the wagon and jump back on the next..........

Just wanted to say hello and wishing you all the best!

I'm really beginning to think that the key to stress management is to follow your bliss........I don't think I've ever been so relaxed in my adult life as I am now, despite being in a new job where I have tons of responsibility and am forced to stray waaaaaay out of my comfort zone (I'm even doing some marketing calls, and I'm so NOT a salesperson).

The thing is, I'm absolutely delighted to be where I am; there is a lot going on in this job, but it's not so overwhelming that my brain gets fried and I panic---I have just the right amount of busy-ness, the right amount of challenge, the right amount of autonomy, the right amount of intellectual stimulation. I haven't even had a formal orientation (that finally comes next week:uhoh3: ) but am already feeling good about where I am on the learning curve. It all feels so right....... it's like this is exactly where I'm meant to be at this point in my life. I wish I hadn't to go through so much sickness and all that frustration with my last job so I could get to this place, but maybe that was so I could appreciate what I've got now.

Anyway, my systolic blood pressure has dropped 35 points since I left the hospital, I've lost eight pounds without even trying, and I'm getting almost frightfully healthy---I haven't been sick a day in the past three months!! Considering the fact that I've wondered more than once in the past fifteen months if I was on my way out, that's saying a lot........and I'm thinking there may be some life left in the old girl yet!!!

Happy spring everyone. I can't wait for it to offically arrive!

Like Marla, my blood pressure has also gone down since I stopped working. I start my new job next Mon., went in for my physical last week and my BP was 112/80. A few months ago it was higher than that ..... I was beginning to think I was already having high blood pressure problems! So obviously stress is a big factor in that for me ...... I really hope I can continue to keep it down even after I start my new job.

Marla, sounds like you're in a good place in your life.

Louise Gittlemen (sp?) who authored the Fat Flush plan believes that emotions such as stress and depression cause a lot of weight problems. I think taking a holistic approach to how we deal with health, having a job that doesn't literally kill you is very important. I'm so happy to read your post!

Rain, good look. My BP is up and down these days anywhere from 111/68 to 140/90 with no rhyme or reason. Changing jobs is so anxiety producing in me, my BP would probably go up if I quit my job. :)

Hi Jessica! So nice to hear from you. Happy Spring to you!

I've been getting some R&R the past week. I gained two pounds, but I'm hoping it's just water from eating such salty and fatty foods while on vacation. I did stick to my ovo-lacto diet though.

I went to the gym today for 40 minutes of aerobics and weights.

Take care.

Thanks, Tweety. Changing jobs is going to cause me a lot of anxiety too. What if it's like a "outta the frying pan into the fire" sort of thing? I was always so stressed out at the last job, I mean here I was a new nurse and I always went into work with the thought that they might put me in charge ..... a few times they even told me "you were almost charge". Uh, what the heck? Talk about stress!

I'm just an anxious person anyway, guess I'll find some way to deal with it, so it won't make my blood pressure go way up again.

Sounds like you've been having a great vacation!! :) You deserve it, enjoy every minute!!

Marla, you do sound better yourself. Quitting that toxic job was probably a life-saver for you. I am so glad to hear you doing better....

Rain, how are YOU doing???

Good morning!

Deb, vacation was refreshing, especially since I went to a meditation classs and a yoga class while I was there.

I hope to do my usual yoga class tonight.

Congrats on the new home Deb.

ty Tweety. Buying a home is not a "healthy" thing for sure...but it's necessary. I am glad your vacation was great. Hoping you feel refreshed and renewed. I have considered I need to try yoga for flexibility and stress reduction----I do exercise but that is it. Any recommendations for a beginner who had NO CLUE about yoga?
