Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Good morning everybody.

Well, so much for spring - we got snowed in yesterday - blech! I know we need the moisture (we are in a drought), but I would have preferred 70-890 degrees and rain instead. :p Anyway, a ton of snow and a nice, long, slippery commute this morning - lucky for me, I am a wimpy driver and managed to keep between the fenceposts :chuckle:

How is everybody else's spring starting off? I was stress-eating being couped up in the house yesterday, so I need to behave today. Been chewing on a piece of gum this morning to help keep me out of the 'naughty' foods.

Sarah, I know about the stress eating. We are truly in spring mode here, warm sunny 80s. I love this time in Florida.

Hi Jess!

Deb, I seriously recommend going to a class if you can fit in timewise and budget wise with the new house. Does your gym have a class, usually those don't cost extra. The instructors can help you get the proper position. So often at home people make subtle incorrect adjustments in the posture and don't get the full benefit. Otherwise Yoga Journal has a good website with some basic information, I think they make videos as well. http://www.yogajournal.com/newtoyoga/index.cfm?ctsrc=tnav

Here's a funny video for you guys! http://www.goodiebag.tv/video/ttt.htm

Ok Tweety, are you trying to make me jealous or what? We barely cleared 30 degrees yesterday and the prognosis looks about as bleak for today - in fact, it was snowing a few minutes ago. :p

LOL - thanks for the video, that was a good pick-me-up. I needed a laugh first thing this morning.

Hey Jess - how are the classes coming along? Is Micro being more friendly to you now that you've been in it for a while? I am actually really enjoying it, but I have a bad teacher for A&P II and it is making that class really rough. :( Too bad because I adored A&P I and I love this material.

I've been eating a lot lately ...... well not A LOT, but more than I should be. I've just been in this depressed mood ..... all I want to do it sleep and eat. Gonna go shopping with my mom later, maybe that'll help.

So needless to say, I haven't started on my healthier living plan like I had wanted to. *SIGH*

You guys all seem to be doing so well, I hope I can get there.

Keep your chin up Rain. This winter weather does the same thing to me. It is really hard to keep on track and I am bouncing back and forth between being good and not being good. I am trying to maintain through all the cold, gloomy days and hopefully spring will bounce me back into action. I always do better in the spring/summer anyway. :) Good luck - one day at a time. ;)

Be kind with yourself Rain, it's hard to make it a habit and easy to slip into old ways. It's not the fact that we slip, it's the response to the slip.

I've slipped into vacation, eat what I want mode. But still having some healthy dishes now and then, and still vegetarian. I think beginning Monday, it's back to the old healthy ways. I've gained two pounds and I refuse to have to diet again! LOL

Thanks Sarah - We don't really have "winter" around here lol ..... so I don't think it's that really. Just a lot of other stuff going on and it's just so hard to get motivated. Thanks for the well wishes.

Thanks Tweety. It sounds like you're doing well, even on vacation. How long have you been vegetarian? Have you noticed a big difference in how you feel?

Rain, I notice a difference when I put together a bunch of days/weeks of healthy eating and exercise regardless of whether I'm eating meat.

I was a vegetarian for 12 years, quit for a couple of years and January became a vegetarian again.

There were times as a vegetarian I ate a lot of junk food, refined carbs, chips etc. and felt terrible. There were times as a meat eater, eating lots of fruits and veggies, lean meats, whole grains etc. that I felt great.

When I switched to eating meat two years ago my cholesterol went from 106 to 152 and I gained a lot of weight. So when I eat healthy vegetarian I feel much much better.

I got up to late to make it to yoga, and am concentrating on school work today for the most part. I need to kick in the but to make sure I go to the gym tomorrow so someone be sure to kick me, o.k.?

I went to the gym and did a half-assed workout, with 25 minutes of aerobics, but it was better than nothing.

Definitely Tweety - anything is better than nothing! I decided I need to do something, even if it is not very much because I just don't exercise. So yesterday I decided to teach my 3 1/2 yr. old how to do jumping jacks. It was a blast and I got in some exercise as well. He was so cute and ended up pretty well coordinated by the time we were done. We also did toe touches and running in place. Somehow exercise is much more fun with the incorporation of a little kid who has the giggles. :)
