Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....
Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)
QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?
I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....
Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????
i'm really glad this forum is on here.: )
I'm glad you're here! I wish more non-premium members understood that this is an open forum to all members and not an exclusive clique of just a few of us.
Zoe! Nice to see you!
I'm sorry I've been neglectful of this forum, I keep forgetting about it, since we moved it.
I'm well. I did 40 minutes of areobics and some weights at the gym, and am hoping to eat well today too! I had black bean hummus for lunch. yumm.........
Hi again Tweety! I keep going in spurts with my activity here - it depends on what is going on in my classes. I have never had hummus before, but I am curious, what does it taste like, if anything?
Aerobics sounds great - I need to get my heart going - I did a little bit of running with my son this weekend - not a lot, I am sooo out of shape, but figure I'd better start somewhere. Besides, he was having a blast chasing me up and down our sidewalk :chuckle:
Hello again. I managed to eat sort of healthy. I have to have a fast food meal on Tuesdays because of yoga class and my online class leave me with 15 minutes to prepare a meal. So it was "vegetarian chicken nuggets" by Morningstar Farms. Don't knock 'em until you've tried them.
Yoga was awesome for some reason I left feeling like I was floating.
That's great Tweety! Actually, the veggie nuggets sound really good. I bought a bag of doritos today, but I brought them to the office where most of the staff will eat them and that way I can have a few without indulging in the whole bag.
Been trying to play with my kiddos more for exercise, so that is good - plus, they love it!
Welcome traumaprincess. I hope you come back often and tell us what you're doing and how you're doing! Everyone has to start somewhere. Best of luck! You can do this!
I worked with weights today and 40 minutes of aerobics. They have neat TVs on the treadmills at the gym and I watched VH1 videos. It helps to take away the boredom of the machines. I usually read or listen to music.
Hi Traumaprincess - I have been on a 'bad eating' binge here lately for some reason, so I understand where you are coming from. I keep trying to re-jump-start my diet, but I am losing. This thread is great though, it gave me the will to keep going before and I think that it will give me the will to get back on track again.
Tweety - I love that idea - I think working out with TV is great - better than sitting on the couch and watching it. :)
Hi all, I just found this thread and wanted to chime in...I've been trying to eat healthier and well, less, myself lately, and exercise more. No diet plan...just trying to make some small life changes so I'll feel better overall! Hoping to start taking yoga classes again soon or start using some exercise DVDs.
If anyone is interested, found an interesting article on another site about where salt hides in your food - it'll definitely make me check labels a bit more carefully in the future! Article
Hope to chat with you all more...this seems like a supportive group!
Hi Wonka - welcome!!! Hope you stick around, this thread is wonderful! :) The article was very interesting. I have never considered myself a person that consumes a lot of salt, but yikes with the canned jalapenos - they are one of my favorite foods and I eat them every night. I guess I'm going to have to watch my intake and sodium amount on them, I never thought of them being salty. Thanks for the info!
Wonka that was an intersting article. I hate that they put so much salt in foods. I eat a lot of Asian food which is loaded with sodium. I have borderline high blood pressure and am trying non-medical alternatives to keeping it down, and may have to go salt free. Thanks for sharing the article.
I'm off to the gym here soon. I may not be eating too healthy because I'm going out to eat tonight to a fondu place. They have a vegetarian opion with veggies and tofu, but you dip it in the high fat/salt cheeses. I'm sure to love it.

Yeah - I can end up doing that too. I have to be careful with what I eat because it can stir up a whole mass eating binge. Sometimes it's great and other times it's not. You're right about the shame part too - I have to remember that, I am really bad about that.
Hope everybody's Monday is going nicely - I'm having a rough time with the time change. Yawn!
