Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Morning everyone! Well I lost 4 pounds last week. That's all the motivation I need. Next hurdle: small portions on Thanksgiving.

Congrats! It's always so wonderful to see the scale going backwards! I am with you about Thanksgiving - that could be rough! Hopefully we can prevail! If not - at least it is only one day :chuckle To me, I'm not dreading Thanksgiving near as much as I am Christmas. In our house, turkey day translates into moderately healthy food, but Christmas seems like a solid sugar and cookie-fest. :imbar

That snake story . . . . .

We did the same thing back when I was about 18 - but it ended up dipped in buttermilk and flour and deep fried . . .my mom cut it up so it looked like the rib of chicken . . but I couldn't eat it. Everyone swore it tasted like CHICKEN.

Not sure if I've lost weight cause I haven't weighed myself but my husband said my backside is smaller . . .. . :rotfl: Of course husbands have ulterior motives.

Taking a break from cleaning - I cannot believe the cobwebs in my kitchen. I took down my blinds and they are soaking in the bathtub . . .my exercise today will be major cleaning . . .

The rattlesnake posts got me laughing - we live in rattlesnake country. A few yrs. ago, my hubby and one of his buddies decided they were going to cook up a snake and try it. Well, they killed the little buggar, got it all skinned and put it in a pot of water in the sink (went out to do chores at the ranch and planned on coming back in to cook the snake). When they got back in the house, the skinned, headless snake had crawled out of the pan of water and onto the counter. I think that did it in for everybody - the snake went in the trash and out came the steaks. :rotfl:

Hi to everybody - have a good day!

that is simply ghastly.OMG

I had rattlesnake in AZ. I did not like it too much. Weird gamy taste is all. To each their own.

Deb & Steph - I'm with 'ya on the cobwebs. It was ok for Halloween, they added to the decor, but I don't think I can get away with that for Thanksgiving :rotfl:

I've heard rattlesnake tastes like chicken, but I don't think I could get past the thought to eat it myself either. Rabbit tastes like chicken too (I have forced myself to try it), but I can't eat it if I know what it is - I just keep thinking of that poor, cute little bunny and that does it for me. Go figure - my husband just laughs at me. :p I don't know if he'll make a cowgirl out of me or not :chuckle

Wow, everybody has been so busy! Well . . . sorry about the delay, but I am here and accounted for, at long last!

Ok, I have been really bad this past week. It started off with a goodbye office party for a friend/coworker and cake - yes, that evil. . . EVIL cake. It has gone downhill from there. Too much stress and I am a stress eater, must get ahold of that. So - I am starting out fresh today. Had veggies and cheese as a mid-morning snack so far, we shall see, but hopefully I can keep my willpower through tonight. If I do that, then I should be good to go again. ;)

We bought my son a "geriatric" pony on Friday. He's the sweetest little (and I mean little, I could straddle him) black and white paint pony - old as the hills, but perfect for a 3 yr. old to learn on. Then we went to the cattle sale on Saturday and bought a pair of calves. I can't stand the thought of the stuff we buy at the store, but we have been forced to do that for the past couple of years because of the boom in cattle prices. We finally found a pair at a moderately reasonable price and brought them home - that way we can decide what they eat and henceforth, decide what we eat. They are so sweet - loving cattle is something I am not used to. Hopefully they get at least a little mean before they have to be butchered so I won't feel bad taking them to the slaughter house. :( I hate that part - but since I don't foresee myself becoming a vegeterrian (been there, done that - for 7 years), I guess there is no other alternative.

Ok, sorry, I'm gabby today, I'll shut up now and let somebody else talk. :D

Hi to everybody - have a good day!

Yikes! It tried to escape from the pot :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hello everyone, whats up? ready for Thanksgiving????

Hi Deb. I'm pretty much ready. I went shopping yesterday. I bought a lot of ready-made stuff and am not going homemade since it's just the four of us and I have so much schoolwork and not much prep time.

Going to regroup and regear on Friday and get healthy.

John's out of town until Monday night and is planning on going to the gym on Thanksgiving Day. Can you imagine? I guess that way he can feel free to overeat, which he always does. Maybe I'll join him. :)

WOW my hat is off to John. What dedication. I plan to sit on my fat fanny (after I do all the cooking) and watch the parades and eat food with my family and friend.......no gym for me. (darnit Curves is closed on Thanksgiving anyhow) rofl. Have a wonderful and peaceful holiday, Tweety. You definately deserve it.

Wow - working out on Thanksgiving - so much more determination and self-discipline than I have!!! :) I don't know, if it stays nice, I think I will take advantage of having family around to play with the baby and go ride my horse. :D We are keeping it small this year - just a turkey and a few trimmings, a small grouping of family (not the gazillions of people we usually have), so it should be nice and fairly stress-free. I concur with Tweety - too much studying to do for anything very fancy.

I find it strange that they are open. Those poor workers open for the anal retentive gym bunnies who can't miss a day of workout. John's not like that he only works out three times a week, every Sat. & Sun. and once during the week. They are only open for four hours from 8-12, so at least the kids working there can have a holiday.

I already cooked three dishes-moist corn bread, cranberry jello mold, noodle pudding-and the sweet potato casserole is in process. I have to cook everything a few days before, and then on Thanksgiving, it is just the turkey and meat. Otherwise I feel too stressed out. I bought everything as low fat as I could find, but I tend to forget all that on holidays. I feel better once I get started with the cooking, not like so much is in front of me. Haven't started school yet, so it isn't as stressful as it would have been. I get stressed easily-unfortunately-need to start using my treadmill after this holdiay for sure. Krisssy
