Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Hi All! I think I will join in here....

I have just lost a lot of weight....Too shy at the moment to say how much....but a lot. I still want to lose 30 pounds! It's been hard with the side tracking with the holidays....Trying to get back on track....but I am NOT gaining....just losing very slowly now.

How I did lose the weight was by cutting down and eating healthier at first....the first month. Just lessened my portions and cut back on desserts, otherwise ate "normally". Normal food. Some fat, some carbos, everything.

After about a month, I stopped eating "too many" carbos or fats....cut back on them as well as portions. Stopped eating desserts except very rarely....and then maybe only half a portion. I also soon added a very consistent though not rigorous walking routine. I walked about 3/4-1 mile a day 7 days a week until it got to be too messy out. Looking forward to getting back to walking in the Spring!

good morning healthy living peeps!

just finished listening to a dr. ted broer on "nutrition". he was a guest on one of the television church shows when i turned it on this morning. anyone interested in checking out his website (yes, i had to see if he had one), here is the link to his official website:

http://www.healthmasters.com/ted/index.shtml

i want to read more about him, and his theory before i share anymore about him, but wanted to see if any of you have ever heard of him?

(((((((chelly))))))) you are too kind! thank you for your encouraging and kind words about me. :kiss yes, it is friday again! seems like it's always friday around this house. the week goes so dang fast! :uhoh3: dd ordered pizza last night, so when i got home from picking up my prescription, her idea of dinner was "mom, i ordered you a small supreme pizza for dinner." i'm thinking silently 'pizza. it's thursday, not friday. why are we eating pizza on thursday. does that mean we will have pizza on friday, too.' :rotfl: we'll see tonight. :uhoh21: dd doesn't cook. nope. that has become my job if i expect to eat healthy while staying in her home. they work out allllllllll the time, yet don't eat "healthy" enough for my taste. told dd this morning before she left for work that i am ready to start working...her month of having me home as her personal assistant is almost up, and this woman needs to get back to a "healthier lifestyle" on my own, in my own place again. she looked sad for a tad, but said she "understands". bless her, lord. i'm so thankful for her letting mommy stay with her, but it's time for mommy to return to the workforce and get a life of her own. i'll still be in the area, just not living with her, her 'bf', and my dgs. now, that isn't going to happen overnight since i still have to apply (tomorrow) online for my tx nursing license. so today will be spent job hunting online so i'll know what jobs are out there for me to apply for. it won't be in a hospital that's for sure. clinics, schools, homehealth, iv therapy (need a course in that...i'm good at starting iv's, giving shots, and therapeutic communication, so a job along those lines would be wonderful to have.) :)

ok...are there good pizza places here in tx? yes! pepperoni's cooks great italian food, pizzas, etc. yummy, yum, yummy! if you haven't tried them before, they are a must try for anyone coming to tx. :)

nursesrmofun - welcome to our healthy living thread! :balloons: congrats on all that weight loss, too. sounds like you are on a roll. keep up the good work! :yelclap:

hello to all to come! i'll be back off and on today in between my online job hunting! :icon_hug:

Thanks for the welcome! It's not easy getting on track! ARGH! It took me a long time. Years. But I finally wanted it badly enough. It's amazing how differently people treat you when you lose weight though. Such a pet peeve of mine over the years....It's nice when people finally treat you nicely, but it is sad at the same time. But I am not bitter. LOL. :chuckle

hi deb! happy house hunting! maybe you'll soon be seeing this sign on the home you fall in love with:

sold.gifsold to the 'deb' family! :balloons:

liza - yes, it is a shame that some people treat others badly just because of how one looks on the 'outside'...never mind that the person has a wonderful attitude about life, or a great personality filled with compassion for others. :uhoh3: i think those who have been blind since birth have a leg up on those of us who can "visually see" because at least they learn to judge people for how they present themselves to them, and not on how they look. :)

Thank everyone. Renee, I am feeling much better today. I finished cleaning my house, fed my husband and pets, and proceeded to bring my laptop and campout at the school's library. Glad, they have free wireless internet so that I can pop in here and say hello.

Update on my pshychotic Micro instructor.............I was adopted by another instructor who wrote a letter so that I was able to transfer into her class. I took her exam, and feel like I did better than the other instructor's. I have so much to do to catch up but it will be worth it. I am blessed because she used to be my Human Bio instructor and she knows I work very hard in my classes.

Thanks to everyone who prayed for me.

Hugs,

Jess

Here's my picture of me at my goal weight! I'd show you the before picture, but it isn't pretty because have my shirt off.

Not bad at all Tweety! Now I know you are too hard on yourself! Stop worrying so much and enjoy your cheats.

NursesRmofun: Welcome.....Congrats on knockin off the bulk and continuing to see results. I had 80 pounds to lose and I'm about halfway there. We go out on Saturday nights and it's pretty much the same crowd at the events but it's amazing that I suddenly have more friends than I did in October. It is sad how society works that way but at least you know who your real friends are.

Jess, Thats great that you got out of that classroom. Hopefully your experience will be better now. I absolutley loved micro it would have been a real bummer to have a psycho teacher.

Have a great day all!
