Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Ok did my thing at curves...so glad I did. Had a bowl of Life Cereal (the one I grew up hearing Mikey liked). Hey it was goooooood. Now off to clean house as I am having a friend over for dinner. Have a "healthy" day

PS--- glad to hear I am not alone in hating soy milk...began to think something wrong w/me. People drink it like crazy here in the PAC NW.

Hi there healthy living buds! Still doing well with the workout thing. Got one in last night. I can actually see some changes in my body and my muscles feel more alive, if that makes any sense. Scale is holding steady, but in a way I'm just glad it's stopped jumping around the way it had been. That was getting incredibly frustrating.

So, Renee, is Serenity an accurate name for your DGD? :rotfl: I used to know a girl in HS named Serene. And she was definitely NOT serene!

Tweety, sounds like you had a good "mental health day." Hope it helped you recharge.

Jess, so sorry to hear about your micro class. I was sincerely hoping the first week was just a fluke and it would get better. Mine isn't starting for another week now (NEXT Saturday).

Sarah, so sorry to hear about your NET and the adventure with the doc. But I am SO glad that you did go to your doc about the spot. Will keep my fingers crossed for you re: the biopsy (all I can think of when I hear that word now is My Big Fat Greek Wedding where the aunt is trying to say it... "bib, bip... bibopsy!"). Take care of yourself, hon! We're here if you need us.

Deb, congrats on your healthy day! Keep up the good work. And if you've tried soy milk you've gotten farther than I probably ever will. Blech. Might try almond milk, though, saw that in the store the other day.

.....................renee - that little serenity is precious - and a beautiful name!!!..................................................my doc was really worried about the spot on my leg (drat - i was soooo hoping i was just being a hypochondriac) and has scheduled me to get it biopsied (sp?) monday morning so they can send it down to pathology to check for cancer cells.........................................................

(((((((sarah))))))) my prayers are with you. stay hopeful and prayerful that the biopsy will come back negative. :flowersfo :icon_hug:

thank you (re: my little grandchild). she is precious and so funny, too. :rotfl:

Hi arcie...Yes, Serenity is a very accurate name for her. She's a sweetie pie, funny, makes me laugh, and is our entire family's little gem. :)

Hi Deb! :) When I drank Soymilk, I LOVED IT! Like I told you yesterday, I'd only by the SILK soymilk to drink. I tried a different brand one time, and just couldn't get into it, so went back to SILK. It is an "acquired" taste though. :)

Sarah, you are in my thoughts and prayers!

I am on day 4 of my "diet", I feel more energetic and lively today. I can honestly say I don't feel week, irritated or nothing. You can tell in my face already that I lost some weight...........(Yeah, I know it's water weight.......lol)

Will weigh myself Saturday and give you an official 6 days loss on the diet. Sunday I am starting my healthy eating diet.

I will be in and out, because my nose is usually buried in a textbook........lol

Please say a little prayer for me. My instructor needs a prayer too. I believe evil exists............!

Thank you kindly from the bottom of my heart!

Thank you Deb and Renee.

I studied til late last night and am NOT giving up. I know this first exam results will reflect her teaching.........anyhow, I am going to give it my best and if I fail this class it won't because I did not give it my best!

I am on day 5 of my diet! I am feeling quite well and energetic...........odd to me because I figured I'd be a starving mess.......lol

Will check in and out today.

Sarah, you are in my continued prayers.......Renee so are you. Deb, nothing but the best to you too.

Tweety, Arcidee, and everyone else............Keep the motivation going, and God bless each and everyone of you.

Jessica, kudos for you for sticking with the diet. I'm not surprised you're feeling good because it is a cleansing detox diet. Those are good for you for a few days or a week, and I'm glad to hear you're going to a more "regular" type of diet after that. My problem would be getting past the first day or two, that's when my aggitation is the worst. I know because I've tried it before.

I'd be more worried about being up to snuff at work. But I'm very glad it's working for you, Jess.

I also wanted to ask--have any of you tried a product called Kefir? It's a cultured milk smoothie that has lots of "good" bacteria. There's a whole list of them on the side of the bottle, and the taste is very much like yogurt. It comes in flavors. I'm having a cup of the peach flavor now.

I think it might be good for those of us who have had antibiotics. There's a whole page devoted to healthcare professionals and the benefits of drinking kefir.

Almost forgot--here's the website for those of you who want to check it out:

Thanks tweety :)

Looking forward to some food :rotfl:

Angie, I have heard of Kefir but never tried it. Don't even know where they sell it. If you do try it, let us know :)

Good luck
