Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

eat a colorful and varied diet of fruits, veggies and lean proteins, and you won't need medical supervision OR multivitamins. Tweety has some great smoothie recipes he uses, if he cares to share.....

and live to 97 to terrorize others like my grandma did. rofl.

Ok off my soapbox and off to take MY OWN ADVICE.

You forgot to mention whole grains. LOL

But you made a very good point about variety, a wide variety of colors in your fruits and veggies, vareity, variety, variety!

How about some frozen raspberries, a cup of unsweetened soy milk, some protein powder if you choose, and some almonds........blend until smooth....yummy

Sounds great, Tweety (minus the soy milk... I'll stick to cow's milk, personally). A good blender is going to go on our registry.

Not much new in healthier living today... scale is holding steady (better than going up, I suppose). Workout scheduled for tonight... I'm actually looking forward to it!

hello everyone! :) i like fruit smoothies, too. i used to drink lots of soy milk, but changed over to dairy digest fat free milk recently. when i drank soy milk, i made lots of fruit smoothies to drink, and would have one every morning for breakfast. my fruit smoothies consisted of either strawberries by themselves, or strawberries, blueberries, and bananas........or strawberries and bananas....and one time i blended pineapples, strawberries, and bananas with the soy milk. i'd also add in a little honey to sweeten the smoothies. very cold, and very good to drink. now, i will start making them again, only with my new milk beverage instead of soy. :)

today i ate cheerios, and a banana for breakfast; turkey sandwhich for lunch with peaches. even ate a few dorito chips with my lunch (crumbs mostly as all the chips were previously devoured by my nine year old grandson). :) don't know what dinner will be.

jess and michelle.........i think dd forgot to send me the rice diet because i haven't received it yet. i'm sure i'll be talking to her tonight before bed. i know she is busy with her four little ones. the two year old has a cold -- here's a picture of the two year old recently with snot running from her nose :chuckle dang...couldn't dd wipe the poor baby's nose before taking her picture! :uhoh3: anyhoo...here is my little darling................

edited by myself january 20, 2006 to remove dgd's photo for use elsewhere. thanks for the kind compliments about her beauty and name. :)

Renee, those baked Doritos are VERY good. I don't eat regular ones at all.

Thanks Deb! :)

When I drank soy milk, I would only drink "SILK" soy milk...the regular flavor, although they have chocolate and vanilla flavored soy milk , too. :)

I don't buy Doritos personally. DD bought them for her little boy and her. I just tried a few crumbs with my lunch sandwich today because the fritoes and chips were gone. I'm in a home where there is a child, but ordinarily I don't have those goodies around for me to munch on. I have microwave popcorn around a lot...the homestyle brand. :)

Renee, what a cutie pie.

Deb, I don't like soy milk either. I hear the chocolate Silk is palatable. I do use it in my cereal and it's not bad at all that way, but it was an acquired taste. I buy the unsweetened to avoid the sugars. I can't drink it plain.

I was good today and stuck to the diet and went to the gym, even though today was a "mental health day".

Hi Tweety! :) Hope you enjoyed your workout at the gym today. And, thanks for the compliment about my grandbaby. I miss her little hugs so much. :scrying:

Haven't had dinner yet. We're still trying to figure out what we want to eat from the kitchen. :uhoh3: Still have leftover spaghetti, so that's an option we don't seem to want, but...hey...it's food right? :rotfl:

Be back after American Idol. It's coming on in a few minutes!

Tweety - good deal on the exercise mode!

Jess - I am so sorry about your class, I hope things start turning around for you. Is it too late to drop it and maybe request a different instructor next semester? That is so sad. :(

Renee - that little Serenity is precious - and a beautiful name!!!

Deb - LOL - my sentiments on soy milk exactly - I could never get past the flavor.

Arciedee - thanks again for the encouragement. :)

Everybody else, keep up the great healthful work you are all doing!

Well . . . the school did not have the proper codes to administer the NET to us yesterday, so they had to reschedule us. AAAAARGH!! I have to go back in next Tuesday morning and hopefully I can take it then. My Doc was really worried about the spot on my leg (drat - I was soooo hoping I was just being a hypochondriac) and has scheduled me to get it biopsied (sp?) Monday morning so they can send it down to pathology to check for cancer cells. So I guess I am batting 0 for 2 right now. :( Oh well - things have to get better, right? On the plus side, the girls at my office had bought a bunch of balloons and a card telling me they all knew I had done well on my test. They are so sweet - what a let-down to have to tell them it was rescheduled.

Hope everybody is having a happy Thursday!
