Read the book, take notes, reread the book. Practice on your kids, husband, whomever you have around.

Keep at it, work in small chunks if that works best. Lots of helpful websites too. There are several threads in the prenursing forum.

My recommendation for A&P I is notecards!!! Write everything out on notecards...i.e. frontal bone (on front), bone of the forehead (on back)....or however you could remember it. Then study them everywhere, flip through them at work, at the doctors office, in the drive thru, etc. As far as the physiology goes I had to re-write my notes several times and actually research the topics so that I UNDERSTOOD the physiological process we were learning about. kidshealth.org really helped put some things in simple terms for me. It took me about 7 hours to completely memorize how lipids are broken down and absorbed by the digestive track and I realized memorizing 17 processes for 1 physiological effect was not an effective studying technique. So try to understand the material even if it means you have to go to outside sources to review it. They also have games etc on that website to play to help you learn the material! I hope this helps, also, utilizing boards like this for information you are having a hard time understanding will also help!! Good luck!!

In mine, we are using Martini's Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology. There is also a study guide you can buy that is as thick as the textbook itself. My class uses this to study by and it is VERY helpful!

Study study study!

I did a lot of drawing. That worked for me.

Someone to quiz you. Another student who is as serious as you are helps. You can correct each other.

Flashcards, memory games ANY learning tool that is available-- USE IT!!

I, too, returned to school after a good 14 years or so and I know it's hard to get your brain working again. Even though I found it took me longer to retain info than it did when I was younger, I found I still did better just because I took it much more seriously than when I was younger.

Good luck!!

Record the lectures and listen to them in the car, when cooking dinner, before going to bed, etc... I listened to most of my professor's lectures 4 or 5 times.

Thanks everybody for the information...very helpful......

Making acronyms for everything REALLY helps for me. The rest is just memorization, which requires a decent amount of time to be dedicated.

I was out of school over 10 years, when I returned in my 30s to get into nursing. So don't let your age or # of years since school be a reason you can't succeed.

A&P is a straightforward memorization class. Find out what kind of learner you are, and use memorization tactics for that learning style. For example, I learn well visually. So when I was struggling with memorizing the bones, I slowed myself down and took the time to hand draw each section of the skeleton. As I drew each bone, I slowly wrote the name on it and said the name to myself. When I was done I could just visualize a hand or a hip and I could mentally reconstruct the sketch with labels. (Which worked out well, because some of my exam questions were "draw X bone with all landmarks") If you're not a visual learner, you may need a different tactic.

Some people say colors, outlining letters, or other visual cues also help.

I also am a big fan of making flashcards. But cheap bulk white flashcards. On one side is the term and on the other is the common name, location, shape, or other distinguishing feature. Keep flipping through them until you master the words. The words I wasn't absorbing quickly went into a special pile, and I put it in my pocket. Throughout the day, when I had 5 or 10 minutes here and there, I'd go through the pile.

And just simply budget LOTS of time. It'll take as long as it takes, so just keep at it each night until you've got the material mastered.

I heard those a&p Coloring books work.about 14 bucks on amazon.

thanks everybody for all the information i really needs it.......

I am doing really well in A & P and my strategy is #1 flashcards (memorizing my flashcards has been a huge help on my exams) and #2 I read each chapter 3 times. once out loud and the other two silently. also, if I don't understand something, a lot of times I will go to youtube and look up a video on the subject, for example, I looked up a video on mitosis and meiosis and found a number of videos that explained the process to me in much simpler terms that what was in the book. or you can also google search a topic (i.e. the nervous system for idiots) and find some wonderful websites that are very helpful and easier to understand. I hope this helped. good luck!!!
