liability as a hh nurse
Hello, I just starting working HH as a visiting RN doing start of cares and follow-ups. Recently, I've had a patient go back into the hospital, and is doing very poorly. I was at the patients house two days before, and the patient had some lethargy, but was alert and oriented with stable v/s. The patient takes ambien every night and started taking Geodon Anyways, two days later the caregiver called 911 because per her the patient was more lethargic and acting differently. They took him into a hospital, and ended up having to transfer him to a different hospital after doing CPR a couple hours after being admitted. Is there anything else I could have done? I feel like I failed this patient. His v/s were stable, and nothing was abnormal in his physical assessment other than his legs "feeling weak". Am I liable for this as an RN? Can I be sued for not catching this 2 days prioir? I'm not sure I like HH anymore. Too many problems with too little resources. Any input helps.

Transferring from ER to ICU
Hi all Started out in level II trauma ER w/ 70,000 visits/year as a new grad and I'm currently looking to broaden my horizons. Been in ER for 2 years. How difficult was the transition for those of you who have done it? Did ER lay a good foundation? I know floor nursing is a good stepping stone, but I avoided and wish to avoid that at all costs. thanks

Having Hard time with A&P 1.
Making acronyms for everything REALLY helps for me. The rest is just memorization, which requires a decent amount of time to be dedicated.

What would you answer for this test question?
OR...it could be A for the same exact reason. It's a lot warmer inside of the womb than it is in a delivery room, and when the baby is delivered, they initially lose a lot of heat and do not have the thermoregulation center in their brain to warm them up. I'm changing my answer to A lol..

B. Newborns lose heat because they cannot immediately adapt to a cooler environment outside of the placenta. ?? Sounds good haha...If the baby had a mature thermoregulation center, they would not lose heat, and would not have to be put under a warmer. Glad I'm done with OB haha..

What to do while waiting!!
Hello everyone!! Glad I found these forums! I'm a 22 y/o male/newly licensed LVN here in Southern CA. I initially did my LVN as a stepping stone to get my RN. Unfortunately, 2 classes from the university I used to attend did not transfer to the community college that I am currently attending/did my LVN at, and I had to retake the 2 courses. Because of this, I'm stuck waiting until Fall 2010 before I start the school's 2 semester LVN to RN bridge program. I aspire to work in the ED and/or ICU as a RN (depending on where the economy leads me) with hopes of eventually becoming a CRNA somewhere down the line. Currently, I'm taking the last of my BSN pre-reqs so I can transfer to a state school as soon as I finish up my RN. I had a goal of becoming a RN by 23, but that has sadly been shattered.. haha..7 months of waiting is going to kill me. Given the current job market, and the fact that I'm unable to leave the state, what are some things I can do to stay fresh with knowledge? Are there any certifications other than an IV cert that LVNs can do?? I really want to work, but I've dropped off about 10 resumes, and still have no call-backs. I'm likely going to drop off 20 more resumes, but options other than LTC are pretty limited for VNs, and LTC is definitely not my thing. Any suggestions??!!!
