I haven't myself but I was wondering what the reasoning was for the write-ups.

Hello jetta1,
Yeah a good friend of mine was written up by a Dr because she paged the Dr to query a dose (INR 3.3 and 3mg of warfarin written up to give) and when the Dr called back she was really nasty, yelling and carrying on down the phone that she (Dr) had already clarified this with (with who we do not know) and who was she to usurp her authority and she was "just a nurse" so she should "shut up and just give the damn thing as a good nurse should" and when my friend said "Excuse me, when you can speak to me like a decent human being you can call me back on xxxx and my name is xxxxxx on ward xx" and proceded to hang up the phone. Well, that was it - the Dr came flying around and put in a complaint about her. The nurse unit manager called my friend in, laughed at the complaint, wrote it was a pathetic on top of it and filed it in her file.
If I was in the same position I'd want to do the same, but I think that I'd probably just cop the abuse and move on.
Rachel.

Ya...............
A long tie ago. Floated from ER to CCU for the night. Pt had their cardizem cd 300mg DC'd pre-op, for surgery.
Surgeon wrote to call cardiology back, to re-order meds.
I asked for (we'll say) Dr. Jones from the cardiology group, that DC'd the Cardizem.
The answering service told me The cardiologist on call for that same group, was Dr. Smith.
Dr. Smith returned the page, and re-ordrered the Cardizem CD.
The following day when Dr. Jones found out, he wanted me written up, instaed of talking to his associate. Apparently DR. Jones did not want it re ordered yet??
Go figure?
Apparently, nurses are responsible for a lack of physician communication???????
LMAO!! He can go to ................. well you know!!! :-)

i wasn't written up but my DON received a phone call from 2 different doctors re: me.
1. was a pt that left ama and i told the doctor that he had left.
this pt returned on his own a few hours later (realizing he wasn't well) so when i called this doctor back to get orders for coumadin, the doctor refused to take him back as a patient even though his inr was close to 5. i told the md he had to take him or that would be abandonment and negligence since he wouldn't give me new orders. he started yelling at me so i hung up on him. i inevitably (hrs later) got the order but the md complained to my DON about me challenging him.
2. another doctor that all nurses dreaded, was giving me a hard time on the phone w/me about his pt. i was totally prepared with labs, s/s, vs, everything. yet he started screaming at me over the phone because it was late in the evening and he was a jerk anyway. so i hung up on him too. he called back and asked for my name and asked for my supervisor's name, which i gave. i asked him if he wanted my DON's name also which i think took him aback. so i gave him her name also, as well the the medical director's. i also asked him if he'd like my ss#.
i'm tell you people, this doctor was a total jerk to all nurses.
in both cases, i was vindicated but i just refuse to have a doctor or anyone else yell at me. and i had warned both of them that if they continued to yell, i was going to hang up. and they both chose to continue to yell and belittle me.
the irony is, doctor #2 was a superb doctor and his bedside manner w/his pts was awe-inspiring; gentle, sensitive, warm. i think he hated either nurses or women in gen'l. so when his last pt. died, i extended my hand to shake his, and said "dr. so and so, it's been a pleasure'". he just kind of hmmmmphed his way out. yet sev'l months later, he had one of his pts admitted for hospice services, and you know? he treated me with such respect and was absolutely endearing. he even told me i treated his pt. in a way he would want his mother to be treated.....yes, an actual compliment. i'm thinking he got enough feedback re: his attitude that he realized he needed to do some serious introspection.
as for doctor #1 who had a ton of pts at this facility, he avoided me like the plague. he'd call our floor and ask a nurse if i was working today and if i was, he wouldn't come to the floor. :chuckle
then probably a couple of months later, one evening he came to the floor and we chit-chatted a bit about this and that; and he said to me, "leslie, maybe you're not the most liked nurse but you are undoubtedly the most respected". wasn't sure how to take that, but i thanked him nevertheless. some doctors and their egos. ugh.

The docs I work with won't write up the reports themselves.BUT I have seen orders for the NURSE to 'write an incident report on yada yada'. Usually it has been for good reason,(missed orders, wrong treatment, etc) altho occasionally its a pissy reason and they're just peeved off at someone.

Had a surgeon (when i worked as a aide on the floor) who screamed (literally) and me and the nurse because his pt.'s q4 vitals were 5 minutes (yes FIVE) overdue (on a floor of 34 people). Yelled in front of everyone. And i flat out said (nicely and QUIETLY, i'll add) "Sir, her family is seeing this entire incident, and it's obviously aggitating your pt. and the other pts." His reaction "I don't give a damn about the other pts., mine come first" turns to the nurse and says "or is this too much for you two to understand?" and promptly went to my supervisor to discuss my lack of respect (apparently his idea of respect involves lips-on-butt). Went in his pt.'s room and she was shaking and CRYING, said that SHE felt bad, that SHE caused such a problem! And she didn't DO anything! I felt like crying when i saw that, this poor pt. had been through enough, getting a hysterectomy at such a young age, recoving from her surgery, and then to witness her doctor displaying unprofessional behavior.
Didn't actually get written up for it, but i was pretty sure i was lol.
Imagine how much fun it is to work with him in the O.R. now though.
Wouldn't that be similar to charting that an incident report is written, though?

That's what I was thinking as well. Putting an order for an incident report in the chart is totally inappropriate, not to mention a legal nightmare waiting to happen. I don't know where some docs get off. Evidently they don't mention in medical school that just because they say "do this" does NOT mean that we HAVE to do it. It must be appropriate. You would also think they would teach them what does and does not belong in the medical record. In 4 years of medical school, you would think they could fit something so elementary in there somewhere.

2. another doctor that all nurses dreaded, was giving me a hard time on the phone w/me about his pt. ...
I went to the hospital to visit a pediatric nurse friend of mine one afternoon after I got off work, keep in mind I was still wearing my scrubs. There was a doctor that everyone hated, everyone dreaded taking care of his patients. When I walked by the nurses station on my way to see my friend he was sitting in a chair humiliating this poor nurse. Apparently she missed/forgot/didn't see an order. I have no idea how it came to be but something that was ordered was not completed.
This doctor was sitting in a chair and the nurse was standing. He was making her read the order to him outloud in front of everyone. After she read it with his most sarcastic tone of voice he asked her if she could tell him what that means or did she need help from someone else to understand the order. It was horrible. I stopped, looked at him, and started in on him. I let him have it. I can't remember everything I said because I was so angry but it had to do with his short stature and pointy shoes. Then I made some comment having to do with the reason he was a pediatrician was because they were the only patients he could actually reach... smarmy creepy little man, ... I'm telling you, I was on a roll.
The other nurses were clearly trying to hold back a belly laugh because one had her hand over her mouth and looked like she was about to explode, another had to go in the med room so she wouldn't be caught laughing and the nurse being humiliated had a look of absolute horror.
This idiot doctor was intentionally letting me go on so I could hang myself. You know, so he could go to the DON and complain. He just sat there with a shocked look on his face that turned into an evil grin. It was great, he was so anxious to get me fired for talking to him that way he just let me go on and on.
When I was done I started to walk away and he demanded to know who I was. I just ignored him. He was running around like a tiny little troll doll demanding that someone tell him who I was. The charge nurse looked at him like he was an idiot and explained that I didn't work for the hospital. I worked in a SNF. Heh... he sat through the humiliation for nothing.
The timing was just so perfect, it couldn't have been planned better if I would have known it was going to happen.

Fortunately where I work doctors do not have the power to write nurses up. They report any problems to administration and administrations deals with us. Only my charge nurse and manager can "write me up". Thankfully.
I had a doc demand I be written up for an LPN I was working with who reported to me the patient refused a bowel prep, and I forgot to call him. He was livid and called my manager at home. The manager never wrote me up, she thought the doc was over the top because the patient refused and that was that. :)

I wasn't written up, but I did have a doc chew me out on the phone (I didn't get to the phone fast enough). When he got to the unit he started trying to chat me up and be nice. I stopped him and said, "Don't you ever talk to me like that again. If I want to be barked at, I'll get a dog."
Shocked the heck out of him.
