Today I want to QUIT.
I am sitting here crying my eyes out as I just received a D on my A&P exam that I was certain I had only made 5-6 mistakes at the most on. How do I do so well on my first exam, study 3 times as hard for this exam and get a D? I entered that exam room super confident, I wrote the exam super confident, and I even left smiling thinking I did fantastic! I made myself several practice exams and used the end of chapter questions as practice questions and got every single one of those answers right...so how do I go from all that to a D? I can't stop crying because I am just so discouraged. I just feel like, so when I study my brains out, I just don't have what it takes. If I can't get even a C on a test that I put my 110% into (literally I could not have studied harder) how will I pass my entrance exam? What's the point. The nursing school I want to get in is limited entry, how would I ever get in if I do bad in A & P of all subjects! It also is terrible that I can't even see the answers I chose (it was scantron, multiple choice) so I can't even see what happened!
I want to quit, I just feel so stupid right now!
Sorry just needed to vent. Maybe there's someone out there who has experienced something like this that might have something positive to say.

Make an appointment with your teacher. Tell him/her that you need to know what you are doing wrong in order to succeed. I've had many teachers allow me to look over my scantron.

Dont quit yet. Wait and see what you make on the next one. You can always drop it, but dont quit. I wanted to quit when I was taking Pharmacology in a 4 week Summer semester. That was the hardest class I have ever taken. Hang in there. Drop it and take it another semester, but if nursing is your dream, dont quit.
Good luck.

What type of questions did you get wrong? Post a sample question. Were they questions that were not in the book? i.e critical thinking questions?? that is how my entire a&P test was. The instructor did not believe in multiple choice. All questions were short answer critical thinking questions. Is it just memorization you're having a problem with? Dont quit!! Its still early in the semester and you can pull it up!
oh i just read it was scantron...make sure it was read/graded correctly! I had scantrons mark mine wrong a few times. :)

Check your answers on the scantron with the actual exam and talk to your teacher. Is it possible that you got off on a question and then bubbled all the answers on the wrong numbers? I have seen this happen before!!
Check your test carefully b/c it sounds like something is wrong here... it is not normal to get a D on an exam you thought you aced.
If it turns out you did get the D, try to identify where you went wrong in your studying. I am an academic tutor in A&P 1 and 2 and the biggest mistakes I see from my students are 1. not taking detailed enough lecture notes and 2. not studying the right material in enough detail to understand and apply the concepts.
Also ask your instructor about how you can better prepare for the exams. Often times they will give you ideas you hadn't thought before.
Hang in there, keep your chin up and let us know how it turns out! :icon_hug:

I know how you feel, I just got a D on my first test so far in my History class I know it isn't that big of a deal because it's not really related to Nursing, just a pre-req for my school, but I was SO upset. I haven't even gotten a C all year yet and then this! But it was my first test, and my prof. explained that everyone usually does bad on the first test because they don't know what to expect, like the teachers style of doing things. Was it your first test in that class? Atleast next time you will know what to expect from the tests.
I agree, ask to see what questions you got wrong so you know, and then make sure you really did. Scantron makes mistakes sometimes, I know that from my tests in high school. Good luck!
Oh yeah and I know that if you ask about your test scores, and show a concern about your grades, your prof. will see that you really care and are trying. This may not make your grade, but it will definitely show you are being dedicated to your work and you really want to get a good grade.

I agree that you need to SEE that scantron and the test booklet and be allowed to compare....it sounds like you might possibly have transferred your answers incorrectly.
Don't know if that would carry any weight with the instructor, but at least you would know that you DID know the info correctly....didn't the instructor do a review of the test in class?!?!?
See how much this test is weighted overall for your final grade and maybe you'll find that you can bring the grade up before the end of the semester to close to what you were hoping for!!
Best wishes -- and hang in there.
Thanks guys!
The teacher didn't go over the exam in class, he feels it is a waste of class time for all the students who will want to complain etc... I think he is a wonderful professor, and his classes are very thorough, the questions were not tricky (not to my knowledge) and they were all multiple choice and there weren't any critical thought questions. I am planning to see him to look over my actual test. I just don't want to get my hopes up and think that maybe he graded me by means of one of the other exam types (I believe he has 3 different types of exam per exam) I just don't believe I would be so lucky. I just have never felt so GREAT about an exam and bombed so bad. Never ever. Not even with this professor with my first exam, I felt "pretty good" and I did "pretty good"
As far as my notes, they are something I am so proud of and frankly I just wanted to burn them today. I not only record the lectures but take notes and re-read and re-write them about 2-3 times. I read the text and it all made sense. I have a Micro mid term coming up soon and I am not in the mood to study. I don't know where I'm going to go from here, either way I'm in trouble because I have to wait to see my professor, and that's not for a couple days, and I feel so demotivated to study and even if there were mistakes on my exam that leaves me with only a day to realize my hard work paid off, and if there was no mistake and I really did get that "D" I won't be in any mood to continue this. I just feel like, there really isn't any more of me to give. I'm 27 and this is my second time in college and I am a good student and usually do very well. I was PTK for the last 2 semesters! And I know what study habits work for me. If I enjoy a class, study my hardest and believe I know everything and this only equivalates to a D, then I give up.
Thanks for the support guys, contrary to what it may look like, your words of encouragement did make me feel better.

I feel your pain! It has been my experience in any of my hard pre-reqs or nursing courses that you don't always get out what you put in. It can be really discouraging to spend all your time studying and then to be measured in a number (grade) that you know you don't deserve. I have started taping lectures recently w/a digital recorder and it has really helped me so maybe you could try that. Don't give up!

I can so relate to this. You're not out of hope just yet so don't give up! My academic standing is worse than yours right now. I've got 2 F's in my chem test. A D in my 1st math exam (had a high B on my 2nd). Struggling in A&P (upcoming histology practical:uhoh3: ). To top it, my chem professor sent me a warning because of my F status, yet I still have hope. How much more for you. You'll be ok.
Even though I don't know until tomorrow what happened to my exam, I had a Micro mid term practica today and my professor said I had one of the best gram stains he's ever seen! LOL, the things I find pride in....anything helps I guess when you're trying to find reasons to believe you can still carry through!
