Have you ever been stood up for an interview?

Where you make an appointment for a telephone interview, and they just...don't call?

I've had it happen twice - once by a telephone interview and once when I was already at the facility. They called me as I was sitting in the waiting room to tell me the DON wasn't able to make the appt. and I would need to reschedule. Thing was the "meeting" she was supposedly was actually going to lunch with a few other people and leaving early - because I happened to stop in the same restaurant going home - lo and behold there was the HR person who had called me and I had already met with, as well as a few others. I recognized the DON by her pic on the wall of leadership. They were eating AND drinking margarita's. I said "hello", ate, left and never went to the rescheduled appt.

**** Poor mangement or just plain old resume stacking.

I'll guess resume stacking especially if it's Medicaid facility

I was stood up for an interview by the administrator and clinical director of a home health agency. I arrived for the interview and the secretary told me to have a seat. She gave me an application to complete. While I am filling out the app, a HHA came into the office and started c/o paycheck not being right. Said, "I am getting sick of this sh*t." The secretary, said, "I know what you mean." On and on this went and they started making plans to go to a bar after the office closed. Well, I finished completing the app and gave it to the secretary. Her and the HHA continued on. After a while, I glanced at my watch, because I was just sitting and sitting.....I had been there close to 1 1/2 hrs already. Then after the HHA leaves, the secretary (could not have been more than 20 years old) calls me over and has me sit in her area with her. Says, "sorry about that" and starts to giggle. She starts asking me all kinds of questions about things on my resume, that had been faxed to the administrator 3 days prior. The phone kept ringing and she kept stopping to answer it. Finally, after another 1/2 hr passed, I asked her where the administrator was. She said, "oh him and the clinical director are not here.....they had flu shots to give and got behind." I asked if they were coming, especially since he had requested I be there that day/ time. She said, "no, he called here a couple hours ago and said for me to just interview you."

These stories are unreal! I feel guilty for cancelling a dental appointment. Do people have no common courtesy these days?

i have been stood up. i have been offered the job, went home, waited to be notified about the next step, then when i finally call there they tell me they decided to go with someone else. i have been interviewed and noticed increasing hostility from the interviewer, as well as condescension.

nobody said the interviewer was professional or good at her job; you just assume so, since she has the job and you don't. what's worse is that you're nervous and determined to make a good impression, so when you're disrespected by one of these oafs you end up staying longer than you should or not saying what needs to be said because you don't want to burn a bridge. many's the time i should have stood up and said, "thanks, but you're a bit too much of an a-hole to work for. i'll keep looking." or, "you could have at least called me to let me know i didn't actually get the job you offered me. jerk."

so, yes. i've been stood up, and thank goodness. it saved me from meeting an idiot face to face.

Once I had a phone interview scheduled for 5 p.m. At 5:30, they still hadn't called, so I sat down for dinner with the family. They called about 10 minutes later, apologized for being so late, and asked if it was still a good time to talk. I told them it wasn't and they said they would call the next day to reschedule. They didn't call, I left them a voicemail, and I never heard from them again. I couldn't help thinking it was some kind of bizarre screening device - call someone late and see if they are willing to do the interview.

Yes! I showed up in my suit to interview for my dream job about 2 weeks ago, and the secretary laughed and said she forgot to cancel me and that the manager wasn't even there. This morning she called me at 9 am and said "I'm calling to reschedule your interview. I actually did reschedule you, but I guess you aren't going to make it so I will let her know you're not coming today." I was thinking what?! Well, I accessed my work e-mail from home, and yesterday she apparently sent me an e-mail to my work e-mail saying she'd scheduled me at 9 am today. I was off work, so I didn't see it. Did she call to see if I was free, at work, or even in town? Nope. Did she call to tell me she'd set a time without consulting me? Nope. Did HR call me? Nope. Well, she called me back laughing again today, and said sorry, I was about to call you yesterday to tell you I'd made you an appointment, but then I got side tracked and completely forgot. ..... Here's hoping the manager realizes that I am not the epic failure of an employee here.

i interviewed for a non-nursing job, got offered the job on the spot, and was told to call back about a start date. i called every day for 2 weeks, but never got a start date.

my first nursing job lasted 45 minutes. i interviewed (with drug test), and got a job offer 2 weeks later. it was a night position, but they wanted to orient me on days. i showed up early for my first shift. after 20 minutes in the don's office, and 25 in the day room, the don called me back into her office. she said that the 16-hour nights position was now per diem, and they couldn't afford 2 orientees at once, so she was sending me home. she told me to check in the following monday. when i called friday, she said the position had been cancelled.

I was scheduled to have an interview at a skilled nursing facility today. When I got there, I was told the guy was in a meeting and that he would be with me shortly. After thirty minutes went by, a few people said he left this morning. I am sitting in the lobby, and I am so upset. This guy didn't even call me . They probably filled the position, oh well.

Fortunately,I have never experienced this. People are getting ruder by the day.

When I graduated, a close friend and I had interviews scheduled for two different floors at a local hospital within fifteen minutes of each other. We arrived together and decided to meet up afterwards to dissect the interview process. Her was horrible. They began grilling her about how she would make financial decisions for the floor, how she would handle scheduling conflicts and difficult staff members. The HR employee had taken her to the wrong interview (she was applying for med-surg staff nurse and was taken to a floor director interview). She was nearly in tears when she didn't know the answers to most of the questions. It certainly did not leave a favorable impression of the facility. Remember, you are also interviewing THEM. That said, the hospital I have loved working for the most has a terrible HR department. If I had judged the entire hospital on HR, I would have missed a great opportunity. Since this is an old thread, I hope the OP is now working for a great place and hopefully some of our posts on terrible interviews will help the new grads applying to not feel so alone...

New grads, also on here somewhere is a thread on crazy interview questions. Some of them made me laugh out loud.
