Have you ever been "ghosted" by an employer after accepting a job offer?

Curious if anyone has ever been "ghosted" after accepting a verbal or written job offer...if so, what did you do?

I can't say that I have, but I have experienced supervisors making promises to me that involve career advancement. Think of stuff like certifications and the possibility of a leadership position. When I would attempt to pursue them, all of a sudden they were out of my reach or they "never mentioned it".

Was this offer in writing or verbal and was it at a place you're currently working at?

Verbal then in writing 6 weeks ago with a tentative start date. I completed all the pre hire requirements weeks ago. I have been completely unsuccessful in getting HR to respond with updates nor the Director as I wanted a firm start date so I could give notice where I am currently working PRN. I know 100% there is not anything in my background or drug test that would be of concern.

I am at a complete loss as to why this is happening as I have never been "ghosted" professionally before and was curious if anyone else had experience this in nursing. From what I gather it seems to happen a lot with IT jobs.

I am just thankful I did not let go of my other job yet.

That's super weird, is this an informatics-type position? Regardless of the type of position, I can't think of any reason why they would do this. I have heard of people getting called back after going through the hiring and onboarding process to be told "We made a mistake, and we cannot offer this to you anymore".  I've also heard of some organizations posting positions that are available and need to be filled, but they are never filled, the positions are just posted to make it look like they're trying to hire new people, with no intentions to call back for interviews.

I'd say keep trying to get ahold of them and send e-mails if possible.

Sounds like the VA

Is the tentative start date still coming up or has it passed?

That sucks they would waste a persons time. It's like when you're called in for a second then third interview with no intention of hiring you. That happened to me many moons ago. So frustrating, I think they get a kick out of doing that sometimes.

I was not ghosted after receiving an offer, but  I was on hold for six months. A major facility in the Detroit area indicated their interest.  They finally called me. I thought a big part of it was HR does not care about much of anything. There is no hurry in HR.

On a personal note, I was quite surprised when they finally called. I was between travel jobs. Gave it a shot.

Any facility that keeps you hanging on like that, will not appreciate you.

Have you tried reaching out to the unit manager? I've had issues with HR and they've been able to get them focused.

If no luck there, consider it a dodged bullet.

It might be a personnel crisis in the HR department. I agree, try reaching out to the manager. Also, if you are able to go in person, a face-to-face discussion might clarify things.

Someone else said almost the same thing to me yesterday. I have emailed the HR dept and the hiring manager and it's been almost 10 days. No response. At this point I have decided to just move on.
