Have you ever cheated in school ? Would you ever cheat if you could get away with it?
Cheating - copying stuff that's not yours - tests, homework, projects and/or other assignments.
Scenario 1:
While taking an exam, your professor left the classroom. You're seated beside a straight-A student. Would you peak to that student's paper? (Note: You can get away with it! You will not get caught!)
Scenario 2:
Your teacher is in the classroom giving a final exam. You are allowed to use your cellphone as a calculator. You are using an iPhone and can access the internet. Would you look into Google to find the answer to a question you do not know?
So, does anyone of you ever cheated in nursing school? at least once or maybe a lot of times? Could you share some of your experiences if you got caught or if you got away with it? Did you feel bad/guilty about it afterward?
I'm just curious, so please don't think that this thread is offensive in anyway. I have to admit that I cheated before. I copied someone's homework, I looked into my seatmates' test paper. I wrote some medical dosages' formula in my desk.
There's also this cliche that goes "When you cheat, you're really cheating yourself." I say this is BS - especially in school. Tuition nowadays is over the top particularly nursing. Not to mention how hard it is to get in into the damn program.
So insights?

I don't like cheaters, anyone who can cheat is lacking in moral integrity.
If a person can cheat in school without guilt, what else is this person capable of?
I do not tolerate cheating in any way shape or form. I work too hard to be tolerant or understanding. If I feel someone else is cheating, they will hear about it. If you can't do the work yourself, you have to either work harder or find something else to do.

Well said!
My $.02
I have had opportunities to cheat (getting copies of tests) and I refuse to - even when I 'knew' I would not get caught. I also tend to over cite my papers for fear of someone even thinking I may have plagiarized.
I will never give anyone an opportunity to question my character.
I have worked very hard for my grades without cheating, which enables me to take credit for not only my failures by my successes as well.
No I don't cheat. It is unethical and as a nurse, we should be held to high ethical standards. You aren't just hurting yourself. Your actions do effect others.
I'll say this too. If I knew who you were, I'd report you. What you are doing is not acceptable. Again, as a nurse, it would be my duty to report you.
I cheated once in high school. And actually I was writing down the answers for my boyfriend. I got caught and was so embarassed. So I have never done anything like that again.
I'm one of those weird people that love tests - except in my last semester of nursing school - that was hell. So I really haven't been in the position to need to cheat.
I have been in discussions about what to focus on for the next test..that's about it. I have also been on the end of someone copying off my test in nursing school (LPN)- unwillingly. I think in our RN school it would have been impossible to cheat. No cell phones, no books, no bags, etc. and we sat far from each other.
Personally I would not want to be in a field where I needed to cheat to get there. I want to be capable of that job. Not everyone is suited for every job..eveyone must find what they are capable of. That does not make you a stupid person, just one searching out what is good for them.
Why would it even matter if you get caught or not? That's not the point. The point is, is that you should not cheat, for any reason.
I don't see why getting caught or not has anything to do with it. A person who wants to be a nurse should have a good enough character to do the right thing, whether someone is watching you or not.

When you get out of NS and start a job, please let us know where you work. I'll avoid sending my family members there. Thanks.
I think the last time I cheated was in elementary school - when I didn't really know any better, haha.
I've been in positions where my final exam's outcome would mean the difference between passing or failing a test and still did not cheat.
If you're doing poorly in class and speak to your Professor, most of them will bend a little bit to offer you other options of making sure you make the grade.
If you're expecting A's and B's - then you need to study, hard.
I don't think I could live with myself because of cheating these days. It's a violation of my integrity - which is a lot more important to me than a grade.
Wow people. I'm not here to defend myself nor ask for any advice. LOL. It's too funny how you guys reacted. I was merely asking a question. If you ever cheated? Or would you cheat given the situation. I bet you didn't even read the scenario 1 and 2. COS nobody answered it. LMAO.
and I bet the only thing that went thru your mind was that I cheated. And, yes I did copied someone's homework when I was taking Speech Class. Since I knew some if not everybody in my class have done it. And, believe me, I am not proud of it too.
JUST Chill.
Perhaps, you only have to say. Yes I cheated and it felt bad afterward. or No, I didn't and would never ever cheat in my last homework even if I was in my very last semester of school and I have a dying daughter, dying father, dying pet or whatever.
You guys took it too personally. Lol. I really don't care what you say afterward. Just too funny how people reacted especially the "If I ever meet you.." "You will get caught no matter what." "Noo teacher would let their student use cellphone." GOD. It says WHAT IFFF. Imagine you're in the situation.
Need I simplify more? Fine, say like you're wearing an invisibility cloak. and your professor is in north pole. and you're in south pole. NOBODY is there but you.
(so don't say you'll get caught, since some people would never get caught ever. You didn't get caught crossing the street when it says don't walk? You didn't get caught speeding up a little.)
I think any single celled entity would understand that now?
*Some ethical issues in school. This is one of our discussions in normative ethics.
*gives everyone some chill pill. :hotchocolate:

There is ALWAYS a chance of getting caught. If you're cheating off of someone, there is nothing stopping them from telling on you, and yes, they always know.
I will say that I've copied homework/let people copy mine knowing that I'd have to learn the information for the test anyway, and I paid the price while studying later. So I'm over it and MAKE the time to do everything right.
Also, I've never had a teacher allow the use of cell phone calculators..that's ridiculous.
