Are you a studyholic?
That is funny because I've experienced the same thing. My study table is usually beside my laptop table. I search something in google and end up watching youtube videos. Which is why I sometimes unplug my laptop and leave it in the kitchen. lol It's always a distraction. Indeed, breaks are good! Too much studying is bad, and can exhaust once brain. >.

Are you a studyholic?
How do you study? What is the best time of the day for all the information to get in your head? How many hours? Do you study everyday, the whole weekend? What are your study habits? Do you eat when you study? Do you listen to the radio or you want pure silence? Where do you study? Do you prefer group study or self-study? Just wondering everybody's study habits. Please share! I usually study at night. Sometimes 8pm - 1am. That's the best time for me to retain all the information needed. I just read all my notes and sometimes try to test myself by writing it. I've never actually tried using flashcards ever. I use my old notebooks from previous semesters when studying to save papers. Whenever I study, I want pure silence because I am easily distracted. I'm good with group study too since it's really beneficial for the whole group. I also like self-studying since like I said I want pure silence when I study. What about you guys?

Have you ever cheated?
Good point. But the situation is not cheating on all your tests. It could be one of these - homework, project, quizzes, exams, etc) And it could also be once or twice. Cheating is cheating. Cheating once makes you no different from other who cheated a million times. Now, back to my silly created situation-which-I-guess-is-impossible-to-everyone. I'm just setting up a ethical situation if you would or you wouldn't. Imagine yourself in that situation. AND, not any other situation. Like, I said I find this interesting since I recently took ethics class, and we talk about the "Ring of Gyges." If no one knows what it is. It's an invisibility ring mentioned by Plato - that makes a bad action moral or virtuous as long as you're wearing it. Just a lil story. lol *handed everyone another chill pill.

Have you ever cheated?
Wow people. I'm not here to defend myself nor ask for any advice. LOL. It's too funny how you guys reacted. I was merely asking a question. If you ever cheated? Or would you cheat given the situation. I bet you didn't even read the scenario 1 and 2. COS nobody answered it. LMAO. and I bet the only thing that went thru your mind was that I cheated. And, yes I did copied someone's homework when I was taking Speech Class. Since I knew some if not everybody in my class have done it. And, believe me, I am not proud of it too. JUST Chill. Perhaps, you only have to say. Yes I cheated and it felt bad afterward. or No, I didn't and would never ever cheat in my last homework even if I was in my very last semester of school and I have a dying daughter, dying father, dying pet or whatever. You guys took it too personally. Lol. I really don't care what you say afterward. Just too funny how people reacted especially the "If I ever meet you.." "You will get caught no matter what." "Noo teacher would let their student use cellphone." GOD. It says WHAT IFFF. Imagine you're in the situation. Need I simplify more? Fine, say like you're wearing an invisibility cloak. and your professor is in north pole. and you're in south pole. NOBODY is there but you. (so don't say you'll get caught, since some people would never get caught ever. You didn't get caught crossing the street when it says don't walk? You didn't get caught speeding up a little.) I think any single celled entity would understand that now? *Some ethical issues in school. This is one of our discussions in normative ethics. *gives everyone some chill pill. :hotchocolate:

Have you ever cheated?
Kudos to you CuriousMe for being honest. I had to further explain my post since I saw some people saying the "If you get caught..." "getting expelled.." thing. When I took A&P II last spring, I had this classmate who's really smart. Believe me, she really knows her stuff and every time our professor asks a question, she would be the first to answer it - literally. I really admired her for being so smart. I was beside her during our second practical on our lab, and to my surprise she started asking me if I knew the answer to one of the bones. I was speechless and didn't bother giving her my answer, due to the fact that I was scared that I might get caught. She still got 94. I asked her why she asking me and she told me that she wanted to get 100. She got in the program in a local CC. I wonder what happened to her. She almost cheated! She should thank me for not letting her though. Just sharing this story to you guys. Hey bud, I was referring to those people who do not cheat. ever. They are the honest ones. :) *Note: I am NOT encouraging anyone to cheat. We have our own reasons and opinions about cheating. So, please don't judge me or other people who have tried doing it. Copying someone's answer doesn't mean you're going to cheat for the rest of your career. Nobody graduates if all they do is cheating. nobody.

Have you ever cheated?
Just to emphasize that you could get away with it. It's like waiting for the walk signal when crossing the street. You know you will not get caught jaywalking. So, you cross the street even though, it's illegal to do so. Or perhaps, you're driving on a 30mph speed limit highway and you know there's no cop patrolling around. Would you at least speed up a little? Now, my question is: Would you cheat or copy someone's note/answer if you know there is no way - 100% ZERO chance that you would get caught. I have to say I am surprised that nobody ever copied someone's homework. This is not just for the clinicals alone. The basic courses are involve like Basic math, English, history, or any other easy courses. Thanks to those who posted. I knew honest people exist somewhere!

Have you ever cheated?
Have you ever cheated in school ? Would you ever cheat if you could get away with it? Cheating - copying stuff that's not yours - tests, homework, projects and/or other assignments. Scenario 1: While taking an exam, your professor left the classroom. You're seated beside a straight-A student. Would you peak to that student's paper? (Note: You can get away with it! You will not get caught!) Scenario 2: Your teacher is in the classroom giving a final exam. You are allowed to use your cellphone as a calculator. You are using an iPhone and can access the internet. Would you look into Google to find the answer to a question you do not know? So, does anyone of you ever cheated in nursing school? at least once or maybe a lot of times? Could you share some of your experiences if you got caught or if you got away with it? Did you feel bad/guilty about it afterward? I'm just curious, so please don't think that this thread is offensive in anyway. I have to admit that I cheated before. I copied someone's homework, I looked into my seatmates' test paper. I wrote some medical dosages' formula in my desk. There's also this cliche that goes "When you cheat, you're really cheating yourself." I say this is BS - especially in school. Tuition nowadays is over the top particularly nursing. Not to mention how hard it is to get in into the damn program. So insights?

Major issues with Chemisry!!!
I'm taking chemistry too. I actually find mine easier probably because I like Math, and chemistry requires a lot of calculation. And, also my professor is really good so I don't have any problem with it. In my class, I see one or two of my classmates using a recorder - even though I don't think it's a good idea since the professor is explaining all the stuff from the board (and you'll be lost once you listen to the recording. lol) Regardless, I would still suggest bringing a recorder if it's possible. Some people learn a lot if they hear the explanation from the professor over and over. Good luck.

I dropped chem and nursing theory to focus on A&P 1 - did I do the right thing?
I believe you made the right choice. I honestly consider A&P 1 to be the most difficult course that I have ever taken in my whole life. By dropping the chem and nursing theory, you will be able to focus more on your A&P1 (and also your children :)) . Perhaps if you didn't drop those and took the three all together, you might end up messing up the whole three. 6months - 1 year is nothing compared to repeating the three courses (if you get low grades) which could take over a year. Pros outweighs the cons.

So Confused I Need Help
You're on the right track. When you become a CNA, it's definitely going to be easy for you to adjust to the clinical setting. If I were you, I would just go straight to RN. If you take LPN, you're just taking similar courses as the RN, so I don't think one is difficult as the other since nursing is supposed to be difficult. What people are actually saying about nursing is true, however, it's not meant to be feared about - it's to let people like you (and me) see the reality of nursing so by the time you're taking your courses, you'll know what to do (to get an A).
-
To apply or not to apply?
Don't let your F grade bring you down. Once you retake it (and make sure to get an A this time), your GPA will go up. The F grade will remain in your transcript though. I don't think it's a good idea to take chem, AP1, and psychology, and English all together. It will be extremely difficult to achieve an A to each key courses. Remember that you need to get as high as you can in each key courses. If you think you can do it, then go for it. My only suggest is to find a good professor. And study. If you decide to take all of them together, then you should definitely apply for the fall of '10. Your English grade will be replaced by your new grade (in some schools, they average the 2 grades) If you don't get in the nursing program this fall, try next year. At least you tried for the fall of 2010. Good luck!

Discouraged...need encouragement
Think positive. You should consider yourself lucky you stumbled upon this website. Honestly, if I could turn back my time and redo all my courses, I would definitely keep in mind all the advises and past experiences posted by nursing students here. My mistake was that I was not totally aware that nursing was supposed to be a killer. If only I had known this website before I messed up my grades. Now you know the reality of nursing school (negative and positive) make sure to give it your 100%. I'm sure you'll do great. Just be positive. There are a lot of people that are in the same boat as you. Wish you the best and let us know how it goes!

I'm really interested....
Thank you guys! I live in New York City. I honestly have no idea how hard it is to find a job in my place. I have no job experience in the medical field. Do hospitals prefer CNAs with prior experience in the healthcare? I don't want to spend cash and not get a CNA job. Any tips would be appreciated! :) I'm really worried that I might fail the CNA program since I'm a clumsy person. Anyone else find themselves clumsy, and was able to overcome their clumsiness?
-
just wanted to say hello
Hey man! Don't worry about the 'age' since it wouldn't matter at all. I'm currently waiting for my acceptance letter in a nursing school. So, I decided to apply to a CNA program. I'm going to start this spring! Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

Am I Setting Myself Up For Failure?
I suggest that you choose your professors. Some professors 'torture' their student and give A LOT of homework while others are 'easy'. I've experienced professors that are way harder than they should be. I think it's totally possible to do that and get straight As. Choose your professors and you also need a good schedule. If you can do that then you'll be fine. Just don't get yourself too exhausted and end up not getting the work done. May I suggest bringing a recorder if you have one. It helped me get an A in my philosophy class. You can do it! Good luck! Keep us updated! :)
