just what the title asks. if you don't want to continue working in the nursing/healthcare field at all, what's your plan? what do you want to do instead? and if you hate nursing and have another idea but aren't actively pursuing it right now, why not?
(none of these questions are meant in a judgmental way at all. merely curious :-)
Be independently wealthy with my own space yacht, with an artificial intelligence computer system to run it, and just wander among the planets and stars visiting all the different colonies.
Or, get on my bike and wander the US taking photos (really good ones) of anything and everything: but my bike has about a 100 mile limit, so I'd have to make sure to travel where there are plenty of gas stations along the way (or carry a gas can, lol). Just looking around, and stopping wherever just to see what there is to see.
Actually, I really like nursing. I do get the time off when I want it. I have traveled the world with it. I do volunteer nursing/teaching in other countries. Did a master's and so do things other than just bedside, but I like and stay at the bedside because I want to. Had fun today just doing the disaster drill outside the ER entrance. (Love that fake blood and gore! You get to save just about everyone!)
Maybe it's regional. Where I work, you don't have much choice in your hours. They always say" you can request, but nothing is guaranteed" One coworker had to eat her airline tickets due to not getting all her vacation time( was approved for a week, but had to work a day right smack in the middle of it)
Yeah, right. No way am I going to cancel my vacation and airline tickets for a single shift plopped in the middle of my vacation. Pretty sure my cell phone works in Florida. Can call in sick just as easy from my hotel.
its their own fault for putting you on the schedule for a single shift during the vacation week you requested. How passive aggressive is that?
I don't hate nursing but I'd rather just get paid to travel the world.

Definitely had that happen to me when I worked in the hospital. I put in my requests to arrange so I could go away for probably a Wednesday-Wednesday and not only did they put me on that Friday, they put me on an 8 hr shift which was obviously going to be impossible to cover (we worked mostly 12s). I went away anyway and called in the night before. I told you weeks ago I wasn't available on that day, you could have dealt with it then and covered the shift but you didn't... so now you can deal with it later.
I have given up... hating nursing. :) After 11 years I have come to realize that I'm kinda stuck. But, I've always wanted to do something artistic; write children's books, be a cartoonist. I actually was a graphic artist at one time, but for varying reasons that just didn't pan out. I've also thought about teaching art to kids, but I've actually tried doing a little teaching to kids, and it simply isn't my cup of tea.
I would love to own a sweets shop, offering all the weird candy of the world while I'm baking up anything to do with bacon to please the palate! I love to bake sweets and my friends love that I love to do it! In the summer months I would have a couple of snow cone shacks and a trailer concession stand for sports at the park and fairs.

I've always wished I could have gone into quantum physics-(schrodinger's cat etc..) really. I just don't think I'm bright enough for the math. My original major way Biology with a goal to become a marine science specialized veterinarian. Then I found out how much a DVM with a PHD costs to get and pays to have. YEAH Nursing!- Much more bang for your educational buck.
