I graduated nursing school in 2009. Just took the NCLEX for the very first time in September 2015. I used Saunders and Kaplan the first time and I failed. Tried again this January 2016 and passed it on my second try! This time I used NCSBN and UWorld Qbank to review.

I absolutely loved UWORLD, everything is just so detailed and I think that helped me a lot!

Good luck to your upcoming test and God bless you ?

How long did you study for the second time around?

Yes! Thank you all for your encouraging words and advice! That's why I love this community. Everyone is really helpful and supportive. Thank you. I will update you guys if I pass.

Specializes in M/S, Psych, ART, CM, MT.

Do you have access to the HESI exam? That is the best indicator on whether or not you will pass if you receive a 70 or above you'll pass on the HESI. I don't understand why people spend so much time sifting through their books it is not going to help you on the exam all the questions are as if you are already a registered nurse so you need to know how to deal with situations for example and ingrown toenail or placental abruption Or an adolescent with positive SI and HI with plan Or tower to just collapsed and you need to decide who you're going to discharge because you have five mass counseled he's coming in. All my questions were like that and everyone I know so you better know how to be a nurse not a book because it doesn't help you either know it or you don't the good thing is once you know it you never lose it

I just wanna tell you guys I Passed! First time after being out of school since Dec. 2014 and passed with 75! 😁

Hii sorry for the late reply. No, I'm not a foreign grad. I purchased it on Sept. Would only use it occasionally, i wasn't serious about studying until Dec. That's when i really used Uworld. Thank you!

My scores first time doing all the Qbank was 54. Then second time it went up to 64 the week before the test it went up to 65

If your fresh from graduating and still have a huge deal of nursing content in your mind, do kaplan first and uworld last. My ATT was 75 days validity and scheduled my test date before my att expires. I studied content on the first 2 months and questions on the third month to gauge I know my stuff.

Uworld makes you use your RN IQ. I find kaplan qbank questions on some, your answer is either the long or short sentence choice.

Congrats!! WOOT!! :)

Hi All!

A little bit about me:

I graduated in December from an Associate Degree RN program. After a couple weeks of relaxing and enjoying being a Nursing School Graduate, I began studying for the boards. (Keep in mind I am an average/below average test-taker and struggled in school, but made it through.)

I scheduled my exam for February 29th, 2016. I studied day and night, with little breaks for myself. I used Kaplan, Hurst, and another review course only known to people in Ohio. I focused a lot on content and less on practice questions. I believe I spent so much time studying and didn't focus on myself. Test day came and went...after a little over 4 hours and 265 questions. I found out 28 hours that I didn't pass. I knew at the moment that I had to find a different way to study.

Second time around. I scheduled for April 19th (yesterday). I studied a lot, but I gave myself breaks to relax or exercise and then resumed where I left off. This time, (knowing I needed to do things differently), decided I was going to just do practice questions. I heard about "UWorld" through word-of-mouth and signed up for it. I told myself I was going to get through all of the questions that UWorld had to offer. During the week days I would do about 150-200 questions a day. On the weekends I would do 25-50. I am a visual learner and I have to write in order to learn. So I would write down every rationale in simple terms and then look over the notebook every now and then as a refresher. I took the NCLEX for the second time yesterday and walked out of there in less than an hour and a half with only getting 75 questions.

I found out today I passed. I am so excited to officially be an RN. Words of encouragement: motivation and dedication. Take care of your self. Allow yourself to take breaks with not feeling guilty about it. Make a schedule for yourself so that you are doing enough, but not over doing it. Also, practice questions!!! The NCLEX is a bunch of questions, so what better way to study?! UWorld has been the best study tool for me. I will recommend it to anyone I talk to in nursing school, or studying for the boards. Stay calm and focused. If I can pass, anyone can!! Good luck to everybody reading this! The NCLEX is just another stepping stone. For some it may take one try, but others may take several. Stay focused, it's just a matter of time.

Lydia, RN. !!!
