I am coming upon my final year at Vanderbilt and this is the year where I will need to be precepted in the clinical environment, my focus is family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I attend Vanderbilt via distance learning format/ block education learning and I am almost complete. I am responsible to locate my own clinical site and I have not seemed to have had any luck. NP Psych: Hard to get into School?

Hey I have been a nurse for over ten years, worked in healthcare for over 15... Psych is not like most specialties, my specialty is psych. I can tell you that my application and the application of people that I know that have also gone into advanced practice like myself are all very unique. I have one friend who had a perfect 4.0, 1100 gre and was wait-listed post interview another who had 2.98, 890 and was admitted post interview another 3.0, 1200, no interview accepted. We all got into the same program. Its a really good school. I think that I was lucky. I was told that I wrote excellent essays, my background gave me a lot of weight to my application (personal background) and I was willing to be open and honest about why I felt I was perfect for this major and this field... Why I am a rock star as my kids would say. So, if you think that you would make a great Psych NP, apply, because they look at everything, and anyone who really knows anything knows that undergrad grades that are over ten years old are not reflective of what we are capable now! Neither are GRE's, as I stated to the interviewer, I admit, I was stumped on the Geometry- I have not done Geometry since I was in the 8'th grade (20 years ago...) However, I am a damn good psych nurse, did you read the recommendation I got from so-and-so? Go for it! the worst the can say is not, and btw, I applied to 13 schools for this fall because I was afraid I would get all no's, and I was surprised, I didnt? Nurich

HI Brandman is CCNE accredided, if you go to http://www.aacn.nche.edu/Education/nurse_ed/nep_index.htm and scroll down to " All Doctoral Nursing Programs [pdf]" it has a list of all accredited ccne schools. Brandman is listed. Promise! As for funding, right now I am looking at just student loans, although I am applying for scholarships too. I did not have much luck applying for many this year. Any advice to share? I seem to have missed all of the deadlines! Rich

Well, I think I will be in the PT cohort starting this January, 2012... so, I think that puts us in the same place for the clinical year- or no, second year, my second year, your first year, so we should end up in classes together? I think?

Hey Lil, I would not bother studying or stressing for the GRE's, the only way to do so is to redo k-12 and undergrad... its impossible... I think that you should take a look at the FPMHNP program, BIG money in that area, LOTS of jobs!

HI LIlgreen, I applied in Feb and just received my accept letter last week. It was not really all that long. They defiantly look at the entire application, not just the GREs (yes they are required) because I was admitted but did poorly on two sections but great on analytical writing. I wrote an excellent essay, very descriptive, had an excellent interview with the person who is now my adviser- I love her she is great- all in all, I am happy with my decision... (By the way, this is after I applied to and was accepted to a total of 13 schools across the US.) They are fully accredited too. What specialty are you interested in? I am in Family Psych. I am hoping they get more students, they will run it Full time (2 years instead of three years) if they have more than 6 students.) I though-roughly researched them so feel free to ask away. They are my #1 choice by far!

HI, Just curious, what was the week like? What did you do? Where did you stay? How are your classes going? R

    Brandman University DNP

OK, well, actually, I just got my acceptance letter in the mail! I have decided to go here. I like there style of classes, immersion and their tailored touch. It is really focused for adults and really focused on point for working professionals who have a family/ etc...

    MD BON requesting court records

HI, maybe I can get an answer here? I am embarrassed to say, but, I was arrested 18 months ago. I was not hand-cuffed or anything, but I was put into a cell, finger-printed and photographed. The charge was filing a false police report. The reason was because I rescinded my complaint when I felt threatened by the individual I had filed the complaint about. So, I had to go to court, the charge was knocked down to a "violation" and I was given a $600 fine. Question, will this effect me now as far as advanced practice? I recently completed a background check and it came back clean? But, that was without finger prints. Any help is welcomed! Thanks you!
