Has anyone gotten into nursing school with a low gpa?

Published

i failed one of prerequisite course before i enroll into nursing program in bmcc. (later the nursing department reject me and changed my major from nursing to liberal art. it is too hard to entry nursing program in bmcc!!) i still want to be a nurse and change my major from liberal art to science and take the course all related nursing.

i did a lot of work to bring up my gpa, however because of my poor english ( i am an immigration ) i got a gpa of 2.8 ( 22 credits)right now. this is my second year in bmcc but i still need 41 credits to graduate. tot..

i considered to change my major once..

i want to ask that am i hopeless to transfer to a good college like binghamton, stony brook, buffalo for fall 2011 and enroll into nursing program (mention i do not meet the prerequisite course of major)

(maybe i could bring up my gpa to 3.2 at this semester).

what is the actually low gpa to entry nursing program in these colleges? (bmcc department need at least a gpa of 2.5, but actually is 3.87 = =# that is f***kin high.)

can i transfer to these colleges for fall 2011? specially to binghamton?

what the situation will be if i am accepted by these colleges in science program, could i change my major to nursing later with my situation?

to answer your question, yes, i have been accepted to a nursing program and i had a low gpa. i never was the student that pushed myself to next letter grade, i always studied 'enough' to pass, when i'm capable of doing a whole lot better.

i do not know the other nursing programs you mentioned, so i do not know how competitive those are.

good luck,

Heres the thing theres a chance that you could get into nursing school with a low GPA but are your prepared for the fact that most nursing schools you have to have above a 78% to pass. Maybe you should work on your english before taking more pre-req if you feel that is what your biggest problem is and why your not getting a better GPA. I know alot of schools are only accepting students with a 3.5 and above. Another thing you could look into are LPN schools around me have nursing in other lang. Im not sure where your from I know they deff have spanish nursing. I think you should just really try and work on bringing your GPA up taking the pre-req and focusing alot on english. Go to tutoring take advantage of the turtoring center at your school and you will also have a better chance of getting in if you have a drastic change in your GPA bringing it up alot! They notice that and can tell that you are stiving for your best and that you will strive in nursing school.

About 1/2 my BSN class has a GPA above 3.5

I was even rejected from a school with a GPA of 3.85

Most programs require a 2.7 or 2.8 or even 3.0 as a minimum to apply.

I understand what you mean. I attend Lehman and I understand how the CUNY system's nursing programs work. I would really encourage you to improve your GPA. Unfortunately, GPA ( and passing the entrance examination if applicable) are the deciding factors in entering CUNY nursing programs.

Take a semester or two to improve your GPA and then apply to other programs. The GPA is a big factor due to the fact that so many applicants apply to nursing programs every year.

At my school, they really encourage the students to retake any classes they did not get good grades in. It is worth the effort.
