Has anyone here gotten into nursing school with a 'B' in Anatomy?

Published

I still have the final to take, but sincerely don't think it will bring me up enough. I have an 85 in the class. :(

Am I even going to be able to get in to school?

I read this entire thread and I was encouraged, surprised, and got slightly depressed all in one sitting.

Encouraged: Some people did fair in some classes and really well in others so that makes me feel better and maybe, just maybe, I will have a shot at getting into nursing school.

Surprised: The conversations that floated around GPAs and things...wow. Some people are really extreme in trying to seem better than they are if that means bending the truth a little or just straight up lying. Either way, I am not the type and my GPA could be a little higher.

Depressed: Well in most of my sciences I did fair (as in a C). However, I still have A&P II to take (again) and I am going for an A. In fact I am striving for all A's next semester. There are so many people who are so supportive that I feel as though I don't have a choice but that's how I like it and it's comforting. Long sleepless nights won't seem so bad...I hope.

This thread was very informative. Thanks peeps. :)

This might be just my school, but honestly, I feel like this is a rumor that gets started with the advisors. Some of us were talking in A&P right before our final and one girl said this very thing "I heard you can't get into nursing school with a B in A&P" Yeah, well I heard Tiger Woods was all about monogamy. LOL

Our school looks at your GPA and your TEAS. That's it. Nothing else. And they rank the highest first, next highest second, etc on the down the line. At no point do they single out ONE of the pre-reqs and say "Oh well looks like Suzy only got a B in A&P. She's out"

I think there is so much fear and thus fear-mongering, that spreads like wild fire in such a competitive arena, that urban myths like this will spring up.

That said, I have a B. So maybe I am just talking myself back off the ledge! ;)

I got a C in Anatomy, but all A's in the rest of the pre reqs and I start in Jan...wouldn't worry about it.:D

I was surprised about same thing LOL

Don't be depressed. Some people can act snotty about retaking a class, if you need to retake it do it, it will only make you better and understand the subject better. I had to retake Micro, not even because I failed the first time (long story I posted about in nursing forum) although I did retake A&P 1 and 2 as well. But anyway, Micro I got a C in and I needed to retake it to raise my science GPA and in the end, as frustrated as I was to retake it, I am so glad I did. I got such a better understanding from retaking it and it really came back to benefit me when it came to Patho and Pharm.

I too got a B in A&P. I was worried about it because my school only looks at GPA, and a counselor told me they usually get about 80 applicants and only accept 40. But I got accepted the first time I applied, and I'm starting nursing school in January, so it's definitely possible.

I have to retake them all because they're over 12 years old. I'm enjoying the process though.

I did! It all depends on what school you apply to and how that school decides what your GPA IS & what ever else they use to judge incoming classes. Some schools have a min. 2.5 GPA and a lottery, some schools 4.0 GPA or do not waste our time applying, and then there is everything in between. The actual GPA used to rank you into Nursing School is scored by the school you apply to out here. Your entrance GPA is NOT the same GPA you had for doing all your Pre-Req's. Schools decide what classes to base your GPA for admission to their school. So, your GPA will change from school to school as you apply to them. Mine went from very good to OK depending on where I applied. So stop stressing. Remember, just because someone can get A's in school does not mean they can be a good nurse. Yes, book smarts are important but many brilliant people out there still can not do this job.

Im actually surprised to see people get into nursing school with more than one B and any C at all. I dont see this happening at the school I go to. What were your GPA? I heard the cut off was a 3.7+ this year and 3.9 the year before that for the RN program where I am taking my pre-req.

wow that sounds like a tough school to get into... my GPA was 3.5 when I got into NS. I got 5 A's and 2 B's in both semesters in my first year. The minimum GPA for my school was 3.0 and you had to keep a 2.5 to stay in NS. I ended up graduating with a 3.2...

I got a B+ in A&P I and II, and was accepted to NYU's accelerated nursing program.

Good Luck!

The min. to get into my school was a 2.5 and it was a WL school so as long as you met the minimums you were put on the list. My school in another state was a point system where grades determined points. When there was like 240 applications for 40 spots, anything under pretty much a 3.9 was not getting in.

I am grateful for the way my school did things with the Wait List or I wouldn't have gotten in as I had a barely minimum GPA. Downfall, I was on the list for 3.5 years before starting, but it ended up working out perfectly for me and my grades IN nursing school have been so much better.

Wow, you guys gave me LOTS of helpful and encouraging comments!! Thanks everyone! :D
