Has anyone taken any classes from Western Governors University, the RN to BSN program? It looks like a great program, but the classes are not your typical pay per class style. They go by a 6 month period, you pay a fee for that period and can take or test out of as many classes as you would like.
I also like the fact that when I told them I could not start until the fall of 2010 they kept my name and information on file and update me once a month, but are not pushing. I filled out a form for info on another college 2 days ago and they haven't stopped calling, calling, calling since. I do not like the pressure tactics. Thank you.
I'll have finished the first four classes in two months (and I have been being lazy). Biochemistry is next. One person here said it only took him one week to finish Biochem (granted he had all the time he needed). I'm confident I'll finish in 6 months. This program is awesome to me so far.
Thanks for your opinion, it helps, I have to call today to finish signing up wish theyd transfr mor of my credits, theyre only giving me half (59)/ Dont know how everyone else seems to get 80 or 90 in
I've been considering WGU for over a year, but we were looking at houses for months and finally moved last fall. I'm slated for a November start as of now and sent in my background check fee yesterday. Today I received the email from my transcript evaluation and I have 80 credits and 40 to complete. My enrollment counselor said on average it should take me approx. 18 months to complete the program, if I'm working about 16-20 hours a week on it. That sounds good to me. I would love to finish in 12 months, but I want to have a life while I'm working 3 -12's a week, which we all know are more like 13-14's! Does this sound about right?
I started the program with 80 credits granted and 40 needed. My mentor told me 18 months was realistic, and some needing the same amount of credits can finish in a year or a little bit over a year... While many love the program, I didn't care for it. I finished my scheduled classes (and passed), and then withdrew. All the best!
My start date was October 1, although my mentor hasn't officially enrolled me in classes at this point. She told me to start with Care of Older Adult, so I started there, took the preassessment before studying and got a 68% (66% is the cut score). I brushed up on areas I was weak in and went to retake the preassessment which was when I discovered she hasn't actually enrolled me.
I have to take 12 classes. I transferred in 86 credits. I needed stats, biochemistry, nutrition and the nursing courses.
My mentor wanted me to wait on biochemistry, but I'm getting nervous. It changes soon to a test, rather than projects. Seems it was time consuming, although easy, come November, we will have no idea what it will be like.
heartsgal, it's not the entire program, just the biochem class. I found that out online on the FB group (you can get access when you're enrolled and a month before your program starts). My mentor confirmed it for me when I talked with her last week. She wants me to wait until December to take it, but I'm already ready to test out of Care of Older Adult (I have an email in to her since I'm not officially in the class even though that's where she told me to start on 10/1, am a 1/4 of the way through stats, so I'm sure I won't need to wait until December to take the class. She said we would like the change, per the course mentors. Only time will tell. :)
I am starting my RN to MSN November 1st.
Right now, I have my ADN.
They say that my Nutrition, Chem, Eng 102 and 103 will not transfer... ?? I took them all at the same college?
They want me to take:
Intro to Communications
US Government and
Biochemistry
I thought because I had my ADN, I wouldn't need these pre-recs?
Anyone have any insight? I want to refute my transcript evaluation, but don't know how.
Thanks!
I petitioned classes when I got my transcript evaluation back. There should be an email address where you can send an email to challenge classes you feel you should not have to retake. I would look at the WGU course description from the classes you want to petition and compare it with the course description from your original school. If it's close enough, send them the description from your school, or better yet, provide them with a syllabus.
